Rumors are starting to swirl around about a NEW Intamin roller coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood...
I share my predictions as to when we can expect this project to open, where it will be located, and just how BIG of a coaster should we expect.
You will also learn my thoughts on if this new roller coaster would be themed to the Fast & Furious Franchise and become the Drift coaster, or would be themed to something else entirely.
Universal Studios Hollywood currently only offers two roller coasters, so they defiantly could benefit from a new major roller coaster, that would change the scenery and landscape of the park forever.
What do you think about my ideas and what type of roller coaster do you think will open at Universal Studios Hollywood?
Let me know in the comments!

I work at USH, and I was thinking the other day about why the park doesn't have a big coaster. I've thought about this before too. Then, I happened to ride the studio tour because I was bored after my shift. Then it hit me: USH CAN'T build a huge coaster. Why? Because of the studio. Notice how practically all of USH's attractions are indoors, and the ones that are not are located really far away from the studio, on the upper lot and are very mild. If they were to build a massive coaster, they would have huge problems with filming on the outside sections on the backlot because of the constant noise pollution from screaming riders. Yeah, I know there are ways to fix that in post production, but you would probably end up getting a huge reduction in the amount of movies and shows that would want to film their outdoor portions in our backlot. Plus, even the soundstages that are closer to the park would probably also deal with that noise pollution. So as much as I would love to see something like this at the park, the biggest hinderance is the studio. Not to mention that it looks like you have part of your coaster concept interfering with the Studio Tour tram route.

Someone already beat me to it, but the noise from this type of coaster would not only disrupt studio operations, but irritate the neighbors. The park has to set up noise barriers during HHN and sound poofs the neighborhood fencing to keep the sound to a minimum. They actually send someone with a decibel meter into the neighborhood above the Studio Tour during HHN and on Firework evenings. This is why Ghostrider and Pony Express at Knott's has sound tunnels and why all of those giga coaster predictions for that park will probably never happen either.

This won’t happen. It can’t happen because they can’t blast the hill due to environmental protections/landslides/earthquakes. Not to the extent of a coaster. And the universal backlock would have so much noise. That’s why they don’t have a standout coaster or even a rip ride rocket.

Hi, I’m Dustin “The Coaster Engineer” from escape designs. (Yes I’m actually an engineer). While we did take some creative liberties in the video work, we did create an engineering / architectural site plan for this project and spent a lot of time addressing these considerations. First off the fire station building is undisturbed. We have actually built around it. Due to the terrain change and the coaster being built on the side of the cliff, the station building sits about 40 ft above Kirk Douglas road and there is a large tunnel that allows for continuous travel from one side to the other without disturbing traffic or the fire / emergency vehicles.

You also clearly never been on the property in your life since you clearly don't have any clue of the geographical conditions of the area your making your bogus claims on. in your claims they would have no choice but to close off multiple roads that cannot be blocked, shutdown the only pathway for guests to get from the upper lot to the lower lot, along with numerous environmental and structural issues in the given space, in other words they would have to shutdown the entire studio tour and lower lot right after completing their brand new land on the lower lot for years to build a coaster that would never allow filming to happen and anyone with half a working brain about themeparks and film studios would be able to figure that out before coming up with a outdoor gigacoaster plan.

Knotts had the first roller coaster to have an inversion in corkscrew. The mine ride is what inspired the incorporation of animatronics in rides for Disney. The log ride was the inspiration behind Matterhorn and launched arrow dynamics. Magic mountain’s colossus was the pinnacle of wooden roller coasters for decades. Revolution was the first looping roller coaster. Superman the escape was the first to break 100 mph & 400 fr. As cool as this concept is, there is quite a few things the creator didn't take into consideration when designing this. 1. The Studio Tour and Upper/Lower Lot ADA access road. The road that this coaster replaces is the current path of the Studio Tour to the backlot and is also the current path that the bus that wheel chair guest take to get from the upper lot to the lower lot. While the tram could be re-routed, the ADA bus would have to follow the same path as it would have to service the coaster's entry plaza. 2. The lack of emergency vehicle access road to the coasters entry plaza. 3. The coaster station sits right on top of the Universal Fire Department Station.

3:30 Along with the space issue, another major issue as to why Universal Hollywood has never attempted an outdoor coaster is due screaming being a disruptive issue for movie/tv/commercial productions on their backlot. Flight of the Hippogriff is located far enough from the backlot that it wouldn't be an issue, while the Lower Lot is right on the edge of film productions facilities such as soundstages.

It's an interesting idea. Given the park layout it could have a similar vibe as Helix at Liseberg. The park is a bit of a weird one because it wasn't designed to necessarily be an immersive theme park but it was a functioning movie studio (and still sort of is) so there are plenty of ways in which you don't get the same experience you get in Orlando. This was one of my childhood home parks and it never felt like it was competing with Disney, Knotts or Magic Mountain but instead kind of had its own niche. Having a major coaster in the park would really feel weird. I'm not saying that as a bad thing. It's just an observation.

Universal City was the entire film studio originally and they have allowed parts of the city to be developed by others, closed down a vehicle gate on the Warner Brothers side of the Backlot that use to be a guest parking area, so if they would do anything they would eliminate the Themepark aspect there, not the Multi Billion Dollar Film Studio that was there first and other studios use constantly for productions. When people think of a themepark that is also a working Film Studio they think of USH in the heart of where they make movies and TV shows, Disney was the only other themepark to attempt to bring a themepark into the studios and it never even got past the planning stage since unlike Universal who owns their city, Disney had to deal with the city to get oks for each step and was turned down on many ideas for development. Disney did though use parts of those plans when building DCA and DTD.

Honestly, i love the idea and concept design, but as others have said the practicality of having a massive loud coaster next to a major studio lot is slim, and there’s a reason USH has not added big tall rollercoasters. I think if anything, they could scrap the Waterworld show which is right in the middle of the park, even if it’s their “#1 highest rated attraction” (according to their website) but that IP hasn’t really ever been profitable or even recognizable so why not build the world’s longest, tallest and fastest launched single-rail roller coaster on that plot. It’s right in the middle of the park and would avoid being too loud considering the bowl shape of that stadium and the intamin launched single-rails being super quiet too. Theme it to Nintendo, or Jurassic World, or any other popular IP that could use a water theme so they keep the water there.

If they do end up removing Waterworld it would end up being a Harry Potter World expansion attraction based on the location NOT being the middle but FRONT of the park already next to Harry Potter World. Waterworld is tucked behind the VIP office/ Guest Relations building which is the entrance of the park and a stones throw from the former Gibson Amphitheater entrance that would cut across the pathway to Waterworld into the current Harry Potter World. Since Waterworld took over the role of the parks Stunt Show which was located in the actual middle of the upper lot and was a western stunt show which is now where they set up Grinchmas during the holidays, host parties, display picture cars, etc.

I live in CA and am an active theme park attendee in and out of state, but I haven't really been compelled to visit USH in the last 20+ years even though I live within 2hrs. Granted I'm not a Potter fan at all. What's telling, is that last year I bothered to take a trip out of state to visit Universal Orlando. Like many others, Velocicoaster got my attention and drew me over with what wound up being a personal top 3 coaster. To all the nay sayers: Life, uh, finds a way.

Id love to see this sounds neat however as it was previously mentioned because of filming on the lot it would be difficult to have a major roller coaster I to use to work there and I know the idea has been floated but never seems to pass the sensors however I've been curious in the past few months because they are doing something in the area below minions and on back of the Frankenstein garage only time will tell

Last week on the tour they announced that construction will be new Front Lot Soundstages to expand filming in the Front Lot. makes sense since they tore out a group of Soundstages to build Super Nintendo Land and now marked a walking path along that side of the hill on the road for the new foot traffic.

And you are 1,000,000,000% wrong since you highlighted a large section that is currently under construction for NEW sound stages for the front lot for the past few years, access roads that cannot be closed down for safety reasons, handicap shuttle access, and the studio tour, plus the starway escalators are in that highlighted area which again they wouldn't be able to close upon opening a brand new land in the lower lot in 2023. They also cannot place a gigacoaster that will make people scream outdoors that close to working Soundstages if while on the Studio Tour they can't have the tour guides talking to their tour next to said Soundstages while filming that day. There is also the huge fact that Orlando got the gigacoaster in exchange of having their Jurassic Park River Adventure ride converted to Jurassic World River Adventure ride. USH is a working film studio first and themepark second and any attractions that get built must keep that in mind which is why they steer away from loud attractions outdoors near the working Soundstages and parts of the themepark itself get used in filming i.e. right alongside your highlighted area has been seen in films, shows, commercials, etc.

I remember visiting Universal Studios Hollywood in 2014 as part of my school trip to California. I had an amazing time at the park! Although I wished it had more coasters at the time especially one that interacted with the hill. Fingers crossed something similar to this becomes a reality! 🤞

Ain't gonna happen. It's too bad though, because I'd finally start visiting again. After going to USO for the first time a year ago, I have no desire whatsoever to visit USH unless it's free. The differences are staggering, but obviously there's more room in Florida for what they have going on, but still...I'm so bored with USH....

Move the Kong 360 ride film (with added footage) to the current Supercharged building as the tour finale, and add a Kong animatronic to the end, ala Orlando's version. Then you have room for a new F&F coaster AND another tram stop with the older Kong building, without demolishing more working soundstages.

Loved ur ideas Brandon this was awesome I hope for this new roller coaster project coming to USH it will be designed and manufactured by Intamin!!! I loved ur Jurassic World coaster idea but to make it totally different and unique u should have the first half of the roller coaster outside and have the second half go into a massive show building and make the animatronic dinosaurs of this ride top notch like Universal Studios Japan!!! But loved the layout and all of ur predictions and ideas they were super good!!! Also one more bold and interesting prediction I wanted to share with u was what if USH decided to go thru with the F&F Drifting coaster but made it a racing/ dualing Intamin Hot Racer model and put it inside of a massive show building and make it feel like ur racing thru the city I don’t know y but every time I think about urs and my own predictions the more I start to fall in love with this coaster!!! Thank h so much for this video dude I loved it!!!

Hate to burst bubbles but there is no way they would build a coaster that tall as long as this park is also a working studio. The screaming from the riders would be too much for filming and probably even some nearby residences. I do however think they could get away building something smaller and low to the ground with well placed sound barriers.

Just went to USH today and they are in desperate need of a new thrilling ride. The only thrilling ride they really have is revenge of the mummy which almost seems like a family coaster with a dark theme. This would be a good fit, however I think they will wait longer after Nintendo world is finished to start a new big project.
