I've said it before, and I'll say it again; now that Disney has closed The Great Movie Ride, Universal should design and build their own version with Universal IPs. Jaws, BTTF, King Kong, Psycho, Universal Monsters, E.T., Jurassic Park, all the classic attractions that Universal once had, all together in one attraction along with new IPs. This way, there is still a taste of these IPs in the park, and it gives a better reason to continue selling the merchandise for those IPs.

I know other people have mentioned it, I did myself on your Great Movie Ride video, but really, I think the smartest move Universal could make if they wanted to bring these older IPs they weren't so sure about back, would be to build a Great Movie-style ride, but model it after their Tram Tours. Alot of those classic attractions (and a good chunk of their newer rides) were basically plus-sized versions of special effect shows that ran along the Hollywood tram tour. I say take that, shrink it down small enough to fit in a show building, and have guests weave in and out of their favorite classic movies (or current popular updates). I'd even do it like Kong or FF, put the trams on a track, build a motion simulator into the base, use screens along with a handful of practical effects to sell the immersion. Heck if you really wanted to cut down on time and resources, I'd section off the ride by film genres instead of doing dedicated sections for one IP or another. Let people ride out a bunch of different disasters at once, have a section where they're chased around by modern horror icons (save the Classic monsters for Epic Universe), have a faster paced section where they ride through a bunch of action and adventure films, etcetera and etc. And you could still sprinkle those little bits of how the movies were made all throughout, so it still feels like a studio tour. The classic Studio experience that alot of us didn't get to experience, all captured in a bottle. Admittedly seeing it laid out I doubt Universal would do something of that scale (especially sandwiching a bunch of their most popular classic IP together at once) but it would be a fun way to put the Studios back into Universal Studios Florida.
@MostDopeMike2 ай бұрын
I've mentioned this on a previous video of yours, but I can see all of this returning in a new version of the tram tour. "see the stars of the past. Ride the movies once more." You can cut costs with Jaws, use effects and screens for BTTF/Ghostbusters, and leave room for other attractions of the past. Then keep the tribute store as the end queue. Just a thought

Regarding "Back to the Future", I think it's possible that we're neglecting two crucial points when we say it's not coming back: 1) The BTTF Musical that launched in London has been an absolute smash hit success, so much so that it's subsequently launched on Broadway. I think the musical shows that BTTF still has HUGE appeal and, anecdotally, a majority of the people at my work (young and old) have discussed it at some point over the last few years. 2) The Simpsons now belongs to Disney. I don't think it's incorrect to say that Universal probably doesn't want to be directly supporting their competitors over at Walt Disney with licensing fees on a franchise that is, let's be brutally honest, not the cultural juggernaut it once was. Especially when a huge cut of the Marvel merch over at Islands of Adventure directly feeds Disney's pockets already - frankly Universal are lucky to have the ironclad deal they've got on the Marvel parks. I could very well see (and hope for) a future where The Simpsons ride is retrofitted - which wouldn't be difficult considering the ride system is essentially the same - and reverted to the Back to the Future ride. Meanwhile , a cut-down, 30-minute version of the BTTF Musical is played out a couple times a day in a show building nearby.

Hes my take on this: 1. Remove MIB and Fear Factor and create a Natural Disaster land set in Oklahoma. Imo I believe a Earthquake resteraunt or flat ride would be great, and the main ride would be Twister. 2.The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit replacement is inevitable, and I know the perfect IP to replace it with, Imagine a Back To The Future Coaster with DeLoreans with the same ride system as Fast And Furious:Hollywood Drift. 3. Now Ghostbusters is a wildcard, 50-50. I personally feel like there is a world where Universal can strike a deal with Sony to bring them in. As I mentioned before about Rip Ride Rockit, they can re-route the ride when it goes through the firehouse, meaning they can re-use it again for a ride enterance. Take out Blue Man group, its a waste of space to begin with, make that the ride show building. 4. Jaws won't return. But the rumored Creature Of The Black Lagoon boat ride would be a spiritual successor. These are my takes, I'm no expert. Thanks for reading!

I think replacing Simpsons with SpongeBob would make the most sense. @neurotoxicity2 ай бұрын
im curious if you think the 'massive interest in jaws' would be different if more people knew why it closed or what happened on it? like... if i was the UO legal team, i'd beg them to stay as far away from even recreating that style of ride let alone using the jaws IP to do it. [PS not trying to be rude, genuinely curious on if this changes peoples perspective/interest in it bc it certainly has an impact on my view of that ride coming back]
@vandersonvalley2 ай бұрын
@@neurotoxicity Jaws is a very recognizable brand so there will be a built in interest around a new attraction. With a new attraction I think it would be great for them to build a Jaws ride in the style of PotC (Shanghai) as the building is indoors so it eliminates inclement weather, and the boats would have a more dynamic range of motion. Not to mention the water wouldn’t need to be as deep because you could make it look deeper than it actually is with controlled ambient lighting and production design. With any incidents pertaining to the old attraction that ran continually from 1990-2012, it’s a cautionary tale of negligence. Unfortunately, every theme park has incidents including Disney, but it’s most important to learn and evolve to ensure safety of guests, maintenance, and workers. This history will become legend and an unfortunate part of Universal Orlando Resort but I don’t think it would deter any interest on a new attraction as this a defunct ride that’s been out of commission for 12 years. Technology has come a far way and there are so many different avenues to take with boat rides now. Not to mention Universal is considering on doing a boat ride for Creature of the Black Lagoon (allegedly), so it’s not unthinkable for them to do a 2nd round of a Jaws ride. Now deciding where to put it is a different discussion entirely and likely reason as to why it may never come to fruition as they are pretty landlocked. Unless they were to get ride of MIB and the fear factor stage and turn world Expo into the new Amity Island. 🏝️

I may be in the minority, but I think the Universal Studios Florida park is a disaster. I can’t tell what they’re going for. You walk in the park and its Minions everywhere. You keep walking and there’s a random roller coaster and Jimmy Fallon for some reason. Then you’re walking through a super dead feeling city with a huge out of place box themed to Transformers. I’d argue the only thing that is worth seeing in this park is Diagon Alley. After Epic Universe is complete, they really need to revisit this park and figure it out.

Use them both Universal feels empty at the entrance The new minion ride sucks The concept is cool and the graphics etc are great but it’s a cluster and not worth waiting for at all Maybe it’s fun if your the only one in there but while thing seems inconsequential. And your right the whole entrance land is minions. I have zero interest in Fallon. Bourne is an awesome show and the new kids land is ok but look at the super busy potter land vs the dead city elsewhere. They need more attractions and more lively things there. Islands I feel is more interesting other than the missing holes of lost continent and suess land. Idk what in the world that’s there for But they both have potential. As a Canadian who visits Canada's Wonderland and visited sea world last year I thought universal would be a great vacation last year. I booked the fast lane passed for my daughter and I. Honestly, I loathed the water parks arm bands, I have the fast past, but still, the thought of idling waiting to get in line made it a no-go in the future for me regardless of park amenities. The parks seemed dated and poorly maintained, especiallythe dinosaur water ride. Beyond the velocoaster and the Harry potter coaster, the park has only a few other rides worthy of re-rides. I booked 5 days and would have been more than done with 3, or even 2. SeaWorld has much better coasters down the road for a much lower admission. My home park in Canada is knock out better. There are 19 coasters at Wonderland, the only better aspects at universal are the shows. Perhaps when all the new parks are open the rides are all up and running the universal parks will be worth checking out in 5 or 6 years....till then, not much drawing me back. Next year, I am doing the cedar fair circuit with an all park fast pass. The deal is epic with parking/meals at all Cedar Fair parks & admission/parking to six flags. In my opinion, florida theme parks are overrated and becoming too expensive for what they are and what they provide to the audience in a daily visit.

Honestly, since Universal has those two extra spaces in Epic Universe, I would have those lands be Bikini Bottom (yeah, there may be spongebob rides in other states but their has never been a bikini bottom themed land and that alone would be an exclusive experience for universal) and Universal's version of Tomorrow-Land with Back To The Future and Terminator attractions (which would be really cool) Also, even though it would be sad to see Men in Black go because that ride is special to me, it would make sense to turn World Expo and the Simpsons land into a Ghostbusters/Beetlejuice land with a Ghostbusters shooter replacing Men in Black and a Beetlejuice simulator ride replacing simpsons Also, if it's true that Universal is getting rid of Rip Ride Rocket (😢), I would change that to a Fast and Furious roller coaster (because when I think of Fast and Furious, I don't think of a stupid simulator ride and the ride vehicle being a damn bus) and as for the Supercharged building, you can do twisters in that building Last thing I'm gonna say is a hot take but I don't think it's worth it to bring back Jaws to the parks. The IP is obsolete, the ride would be a pain in the ass to operate, and it would just be a HUGE risk that is obviously not worth it. Like other people are saying though, since Disney doesn't have the great movie ride anymore, Universal should do one of their own and Jaws legacy can be in that ride, along with other famous and important Universal IPs That's all I got. Good video as always

I will say, in defense of BTTF, while yes it hasn’t gotten a new movie or reboot, the IP for all intents and purposes is still relevant nowadays because just like Beetlejuice, it has a musical on Broadway that is very well liked, meaning the appeal for the franchise is still present in our modern day entertainment culture
@darkbehemoth94332 ай бұрын
With that said, I’ve also gave thought to a specific idea that Universal could do with both Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters gives the success and popularity of both IPs. I think a possibility to come to Universal Orlando is where World Expo currently sits (Men in Black and Fear Factor) could be rethemed to what I’d call “Undead World” which is themed around the idea of ghosts and the afterlife. From there, both IPs would be the selling point of that specific area with a Ghostbusters attraction acting as a sort of spiritual successor to Men In Black and Beetlejuice either having a show or some kind of walk through attraction (Though a classic dark ride that takes guests through the afterlife of Beetlejuice is also an interesting concept as well). It’s honestly a very seamless and natural land that blends two IPs that could definitely work alongside one another and revitalizes that area of the park into some more modern and long lasting.

I had no idea Ghostbuster released a new movie this year lol. Unless Universal brings it back, and specifically themes it after the first movie (with maybe some nods to the 2nd), I don't really care to see it come back. I couldn't care less about the franchise as a whole, even though I enjoy the original movie. Jaws would be cool to see come back. I feel like with current day technology, a new Jaws ride could work with fewer technical issues than the original had. Jaws might not have had a new movie recently, the original is still a well-known classic. Unless they reuse all of the original footage, I also don't see BTTF coming back, even though their replacement is likely heading out soon. It's a shame, because BTTF, just like Jaws, is a classic that's still really well known. Basically what I said about Ghostbusters mostly applies to Terminator. You can reference the first 2, but otherwise, I don't care. Jimmy Neutron coming back completely depends on if the reboot that's been rumored for years actually happens, and if it ends up being good or not, and this is coming from someone who has a lot of nostalgia for the original show and movie. I do agree though that Spongebob has a much higher chance of getting a ride or something over other Nick IPs. They'd probably do a full land though to set themselves apart from other theme parks that have Spongebob rides though. Sure, they can't say "Oh this is the only place you can ride a Spongebob ride", but they could say "we're the only place where you can enter Bikini Bottom". That would practically print money for Universal. I only went on Twister once, and I thought it was alright. It was a cute little attraction and a good way to get out of the Sun for a bit, so I wouldn't mind it coming back. It would certainly be better to have than Jimmy Fallon at least lol. Beetlejuice is an interesting one. I could maybe see it come back as a show, or with a house in Halloween Horror Nights, but that's about it, even with the sequel coming out.

And I'm a huge fan of the show, I would LOVE for it to come back one season for like hhn to see if there is intrest for it, but I don't think it ever will unfortunately. I would love to see beetlejuice in the parks though. That would be fun!

Jaws is always relevant. With or without reboots. It's as well known as Star Wars which is pretty crazy.

Universal is actually making a SpongeBob ride and land in the upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas. It includes a river rapids ride and the Krusty Krab. Also could Universal possibly turn the Men in Black ride into a Ghostbusters ride? I feel like shooting ghosts with proton packs would be an awesome attraction.

Weird how classic monsters from the 30s can have a whole land and classics like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future and Jaws, movies known by everybody and nah not popular enough
@dasoupsoup2 ай бұрын
I think you're slightly mistaken about Kong. While it is the same character, the franchise is different. The ride is clearly meant to advertise their modern "Skull Island" Kong franchise (although they do also borrow from the 2005 remake a bit), rather than the classic film like Kongfrontation did. It wouldn't be the same as reviving Jaws or BTTF, since those remain in their classic forms. Twisters does fit that description, but the content is pretty similar to the original, whereas the new Kong material follows an altered story.

I think we need a Universal history ride that incorporates Jaws, King Kong, Back to the Future, Terminator, the Universal Monsters, Jurassic Park, and Nickelodeon together. I would love to see a revamped Back to the Future, Jaws, and Kong rides and revived Terminator and Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue (that ties into Dark Universe) shows.

I’ll never get a reintroduction to this at a Universal Park, but I’d love to get a Star Trek attraction like they did in Universal Hollywood back in the day. Make it like the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas. It’s a Paramount property that I’ve wanted to see back in a park in a long time and in my wildest dreams, it would come back to Universal Parks again. 🖖
@jamesenglebert91492 ай бұрын
What if they Nickelodeon's Toon Lagoon? The can do it with multiple franchises. Popeye can be rethemed to spongebob, Ripsaw falls to Avatar the Last Airbender, and the comic strip cafe could become like a Loudhouse/Casagrandes cafe since food is important to those shows. Also throw in retro and current cartoons.
@Cheezbat2 ай бұрын
Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and Jaws are basically timeless. Regardless of when the movies came out or how bad the sequels were, they are beloved properties. They’d do just fine as long as they aren’t just screen based attractions.

Ive been saying it for some time now, but Universal would greatly benefit from a merger or straight up buying Warner Bros. It makes too much sense because they wouldn’t have to pay for the rights to Harry Potter, Beetlejuice or Scooby Doo anymore if they already owned them! They already work very closely with them and plus with Warner Bros Studios just down the street from Universal Hollywood, they could use their soundstages and even make a bundle ticket for Universal Studios and the Warner Studio tour to make some serious revenue especially because if Disney tried to buy Warner Bros and succeeded, then Universal would literally be paying their competitor for Harry Potter which would not be good where if Universal owned HP themselves, then they would be saving money.
@neurotoxicity2 ай бұрын
WB owns HBO now and thats a highly unlikely merger from a business perspective imo
@neurotoxicity2 ай бұрын
i also should add that disney likely will never want to // be able to (in terms of not being able to reach a purchase agreement, not in terms of not having the money) buy WB since they *just* acquired hbo for the cool price of $43b and the hbo originals are so far removed from anything disney would likely be willing to put its name in front of...but..i mean hey...disney bought 21st Century Fox for $71b and just look at how that turned out for them🙃

I hope Universal Studios is reading these. I say bring back a newer version of the back to the future ride. It is a great classic movie that any parent can show their kids (which are not a lot of movies these days). It was their flagship ride in the park when they opened and Im sure it will still draw huge crowds today. The movie is still relevant with their Broadway play that was in England first drawing sold out crowds to even with its Broadway whitewashing. Beetlejuice would be another hit ride exp. Because of the new movie. Then also lets bring back a ride that never left Universal Hollywood, and the backlot tour. Showing how the movies were made for some reason has left the parks for adrenaline thrilling rides. Which is nice, but when your at a theme park that makes movies showing how the movie magic is made is something memorable and great for all ages.

Twister is a Warner Bros IP so technically third party as well
@neurotoxicity2 ай бұрын
while it is a warner bros IP, it doesnt make it 'third party' when the ride is at a universal property bc the universal maintenance teams work on them. its only the IP thats not owned by them so anything from the creative side of things cant be touched but the ride itself is maintained by universal!

The way I'd liker to see Universal to do a twister ride now is to take a giant show building and build a small town inside -- to scale -- and then have everything going crazy like the old show. Guests would be frantically driven around in trackless "truck" ride vehicles...but they would get blocked by things falling in front of them, then back up, and drive under and through things. It would have a multitude of paths through the town so it would feel different every time. With 8 passengers per truck and 3 minutes inside the show building, for 2,000 ppl per hour, there would be around 13 trucks in the show building at a time, all driving on different streets, different places, very organic and "real" feeling.
@DrStarlander2 ай бұрын
There could be one massive 35 foot high Twister prop (spinning tornado with vapor emitters) that can move throughout the town using a factory-style "bridge crane" ... so the tornado could be striking a different place in town each time you go on the attraction, keeping things fresh and surprising. The tornado could also chase your truck.

Seeing people travel to Japan just for the JAWS ride, there is a huge appeal for it to be brought back. Universal needs to hit on the nostalgia marks, as a lot of their newer things are not hitting (Minions Villian, Jimmy Fallon, etc)

A ghostbusters shooter ride would be so cool.
@rahasanumАй бұрын
I also think there is a lot of nostalgia for terminator still but people just aren’t liking the new stuff. Franchises again and again are showing that people still like them, just not the new stuff. Star Wars, DC, Marvel. People still have tons of interest in these IPs even if some/most of their modern projects aren’t good. I think terminator is up there with franchises like Jurrasic Park and Jaws in the sense that it will always have a fan base and always be popular just from the first 2 movies. It definitely has a chance, especially if the ride/attraction is based off of the first two movies and or just a generic terminator ride non-movie based. Something similar to Spider Man in Islands of adventure. It just has the IP in it.
@rahasanumАй бұрын
I also think a twisters ride using the Spiderman or Harry Potter ride system would be AWESOME. Getting sucked up into a twister??? Sign me UP. And I’m not even a twister movie fan, I literally don’t care about the franchise but that would sell tickets. People don’t even have to care about the movie. “You get sucked up into a twister” would sell.

If Universal brings back any of these rides I guarantee, kids of the 80’s will flock back to universal. Yes a redo of the great movie ride or a back lot tour, or combined ride of the both would definitely ate care of this for the 80’s kids. Epic universe is going to be well Epic. But, I can tell you this when it opens a lot of people are going to avoid that park when it opens because of the crowds. But, opening something that bring back a ride or rides from the original park opening, adults in third 40’s who were born in the 70’s/80’s will flock back to the park with their kids.

Another jaws ride would be cool, but i heard a roomer that a similar ride themed to the creature from the black lagoon would be in epic universe in the universal monsters land. Which i think would be better because you get the feeling of the old jaws but it's new and can't be dogged on because its not the original

They should leave toon lagoon alone too nostalgic and timeless of a land to replace. SpongeBob would fit better in epic universe since it’s about universes
@user-DeLorean-Dude20242 ай бұрын
I think this coaster concept I saw could solve the issue of Christopher Llyod reprising his role, via just re-using previous footage of the original ride but upgraded. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3-toJKDn6yljbc I personally think for SpongeBob, I think it would be a good idea to replace Springfield with Bikini Bottom. The Simpsons Ride could become a New SpongeBob simulator ride, Krusty Burger could become the Krusty Krab (See what I did there?). Those are the only 2 concrete ideas I have for SB. Also, Jaws will be announced to return in 2025 for the movies 50th anniversary, I AM CALLING IT NOW!

To be fair, the kids land is overal a better fit for the property there than the destination resort. It is more in line with that regional park mentality and doesn't run into the issues mentioned in the video. It's less of a risk than making a major attraction in orlando. So unless it becomes a massive overwhleming sucess in that park, that's probably the most we will see spongebob and universal together domestically.
