High rev rate [don't know exact number] near 15mph. Pitch Black, Purple Hammer, Pink Widow Urethane, UC3, Badger Infused, Purple Tank. I know the Desert Tank doesn't count nor does the Blue Tank, but some people "consider" it urethane.

Not really sure what my accurate rev rate is. Used the Bowler ID tool a few years ago and it said around 215. Having a really hard time believing that, as it seems way too low. Unfortunately, I don't bowl on different patterns at the moment but, would love to challenge myself on them. I'm sure it would help me understand my own game more. Awesome video though. Really enjoyed the look you had with the UC3.

I am an Ultra Low Rev bowler: 135 rpms. I have tons of urethane balls. I have owned virtually every modern urethane ball ever released as well as several vintage urethane balls. I must say, this is the first video you have released on your channel that I don't really agree with. I was actually shocked and surprised at the poor reaction of urethane on the house shot when Sean threw it. I throw urethane almost exclusively. I bowl in three different houses on three different house shots as well as a Sport league. I have never had a poor reaction with urethane at any house I have every bowled at. My highest scores and series were all shot with urethane. Urethane works wonderfully on house. Even my old vintage balls (1987 Grey Rhino, 1988 Black U-Dot & 1989 Grizz) read the outside perfectly and roll strong and hard through the pins. There is no lack of drive or carry and rarely any burn up. The other wonderful thing about urethane is it preserves the pattern if used correctly. Unlike resin which dries up the pattern forcing moves left or ball changes, I can take a urethane ball and camp out on 7 board and roll it to the pocket for 3 games, sometimes not moving a millimeter. Almost all of the videos on my channel showing urethane balls are on house shots and you can see how beautifully they perform. Urethane is the strongest and earliest coverstock type. It will dig in through oil that resin balls will just hydroplane over. The advantage of urethane on both House and Sport is the consistent roll, control and preservation of the pattern. Because I play urethane from the right I have no issues with carrydown as I am moving oil from the drier part of the lane on the right to the oilier part of the lane on the left. In essence I am making the house shot easier by increasing the blocking. It gets drier to the right so I have assured hook and oilier to the left so I have hold on misses left. This is how I can stay put with minimal and sometimes no moves for a three game set. Luke Rosdahl said it best: "And this is the point of urethane, find the spot, camp out, hit your spot and cash in."

Looking forward to hearing and watching this. This question is too frequently answered with guilting the would-be urethane user, for ruining the shot for all other bowlers, whether they be teammates or opponents. Hopefully, the answer will be based on what works best for an individual bowler, not what doesn’t work for everyone else. Urethane should be viewed as nothing more than one more bowling tool and option.

I can attest as a lower rev rate player who recently rolled on 36' 3:1 Viper, I definitely needed proper urethane. My best look was with my Mix, which I switched to in the last game. My biggest question to those who claim that 'lower rev players can't throw urethane' is: *What were we supposed to do in the 80s? Not bowl?* Especially considering now that urethane balls today are on steroids compared to their predecessors, a tool as useful as urethane shouldn't be ignored by ANY competitive bowler...I say, not having yet bought a proper urethane ball myself yet. Still, I think my point is valid.
@nordattack
@nordattack Жыл бұрын
Your point is extremely valid as I tried to explain above. Yes, in the 80's almost every pro bowler was under 350 rpms. Urethane seemed to work just fine and that was the older weaker urethane, not the super strong urethane of today. Watch some of the women's matches from the 80's playing urethane. Rev rates in the 200's or lower yet getting great ball reaction. Rev Rate is not a determining factor for using urethane IMO. I only have 125 rpms and it works great on house and sport.

Love this video. I may speak only for myself but Simoo is much more relatable in a ball review for me. All of you are great but as a lower rev bowler i am much more likely to buy a ball after seeing Simoo throw it than the higher rev rate guys. LOL Jung makes ever ball look the same because of his incredible rev rate. Every ball it looks like he can get it to the pocket standing on board 39. Great content guys keep it up.

Hi, my rev rate is around 300 ~ 320, with 13.5 to 14.5 mph ball speed, and my average is 200. Though rev rate is important, ball speed plays a huge part in how a ball reacts. I used to throw mostly shinny stuff (reactive pearl) in order to clear the front part of the lane on typical house shots. Even though urethane reads earlier, it give a predictable (therefore controllable) shot which is important. I do love my iQ Tour, but my Purple Hammer has a definite home in my bag. As far as those who claim urethane screws up the oil pattern… every ball picks up oil, carries oil down lane, and removes oil (that’s why you wipe it off after every shot). If you’re having a bad game, maybe you should focus on what you’re doing wrong instead of blaming it on the guy(s) throwing urethane.

My UC3 hooks about 3 to 4 boards more than my Dark Code. I got it when it first came out thinking it should hook less and I would be able to use it on dryer lanes. My jaw dropped when I threw it down the lane for the first time and the lane was very well used. This ball is a monster on medium oil.

Great video, Sean! It illustrated my style as well. Not sure about my actual rev rate but I suspect it's around the 380 range. I've thrown a VERY old AMF Cobra urethane ball for spares up until 4 years ago. After, I started tweaking my release by flattening out my hand throwing my reactive. Trying to learn hand position versatility... a work in progress for sure. Anyway, thanks again for all your bowling tips as well as all your ball reviews. JR Pro Shop rocks!!!

Being lefthanded an diffinetly more on the rev then speed throwing style. I find some of the Bowling Centers I have league in . Where the lane panels are known for higher friction. When using reactive bowling balls. The ball will act like someone soccer ball kicked it as it comes off the end of the pattern. So using urethane bowling balls (Tank Blitz, Purple Tank, Desert Tank) gives me the control I need as the ball exit the end of the pattern.

370ish rev rate. Urethane is my favorite thing in the world. I have a uc3 and a pitch black, I would not do nearly as good as I do in tournaments without them, plus I’ve found myself gradually using urethane over strong reactives on meds and longs. Still gravitate towards reactive but urethane is just too good

Because of a permanent injury to my right wrist, I decided to try switching to bowling left handed. My average righty was 190. It has not been an easy transition to bowling lefty, let me assure you. My love for the game kept me striving toward the goal of at least getting my average to where it was right handed and beyond. Okay, what has this got to do with urethane? Well, I've been using a Pitch Black the entire time. It allows me to stay left and keep the ball in front of me during my left handed journey. With urethane I know where the ball will go as soon as it passes the arrows. Reactive is too strong for me right now. My lefty average currently stands somewhere between 160 and 170. In the first couple of weeks of bowling lefty it was 130. And my lefty journey continues...

There is one thing that seems to have common with the demonstrator bowler is going left to right then hook is a reactive release. Employing that with the urethane is disaster. Urethane requires a release to be clean and out to target with no bellying the ball.
@joehoenig7596
@joehoenig7596 Жыл бұрын
And that's exactly why folks with lower rev rates, prefer the urethane blend balls, over the "true" urethane balls like the Pitch Black. If you're accustomed to sending the ball away from the pocket, giving it room to recover and hook back to the pocket, then yes, true urethane balls will drive you nuts! But if you can learn how to target and release more directly at the pocket, shots that would go Brooklyn or worse with resin, will set up and strike with urethane.

Granted I don't hook it from the left gutter with my UC3, but I have this ball drilled pin-down to delay the core and help it get through the fronts. I love my UC3 on a 42' fresh house shot. Then I can switch to a true urethane once the pattern breaks down and ball starts to overhook imho. Again, probably could move left with it, but I'm not as comfortable from that spot right now with my current game.

480-500 rev rate. I bowl a traveling scratch league on mostly wood/worn synthetic surface with low volume. Try as I may urethane has been the only viable solution to bowling in older/small houses for me. I typically end up swinging plastic (Spy) at the end of a shift as a frame of reference. Flat handing a Tropical can typically last a game but if I don’t wipe my Fast Pitch I can make it last most of a set (with the carry down assisting).

I have a low rev rate I am a typical lefty up the boards but I do think yoyo with my elbow and whip my hand around the ball and hit it as much as i can each hit. And I use a strong layout on my purple pearl urethane hammer, and magenta urethane hammer for a more point it at the 2 pin and it will hook and hit the pocket , the widow urethane solid, the overseas red pearl hammer urethane asymmetric, faball enterprise blue hammer and faball enterprise blue pearl hammer urethane balls, but in my league I use a ball I got from a thrift store the quantum leap with a 3-3/8 layout for a right hander and I am left handed and it reacts same as a 1 inch pin and sanded plastic up the 3 board.

65. Low revs. 12.5 mph. learned from dad in '68 with rubber. various reasons stopped bowling and completely missed urethane. started back a few years ago and am understanding resin but am not physically able to take advantage of what it offers. Could I use urethane on a house shot? One is very old (and dry) real wood, the other is synth and fairly well maintained. I learned to play straight (little or no hook then and oil wasn't a word) and would like to play more of that way now. Not completely, but up 10 and a little hook. A friend told m urethane would give me consistency and be able to fit what I want to do. Another said absolutely not to urethane on the house shots. So, i'm here typing on your video. Great video and thanks.

I seem to have a different experience with my Pitch Black. My rev rate is around 300 with ball speed around 14mph. The Pitch Black for me is the most inconsistent ball I have used. I do wipe it off after each throw. On a house shot with a decent throw (+/- 1 board of my mark) I can go from a pocket hit to missing the headpin left or right on any given shot. None of my reactive balls do this.

That Pitch Black looks shinier than a brand new shiny pearl ball. “Proving” this without surface makes it nonsense, that’s when urethane works best. Maybe it’s not just about rev’s…

It seems they do this all the time. I get they are trying to make the differences larger on camera, but it isnt realistic for the hardcore. They talk about surface all the time, but then in these videos they never address it.

@@chugalingus4642 Surface matters just as much for urethane as for resin. You must match your surface to the condition for the best reaction. A 4000 grit oil soaked Pitch Black like he showed in this video is not a fair test of how urethane works.

@@nordattack Id argue surface means even more on urethane because of the natural strength of the covers and typical weakness of the cores. In technical ball comparisons however, id like the surfaces to all be the same

@@chugalingus4642 Or at least have surfaces tuned for best reaction of ball type on the particular lane they are being tested on. Get perfectly line up with urethane and the same with resin. The balls will be used differently on different lines for best effect. That is how you show the real differences in what they do and how they can be used.

I swear on god your rev rate is higher than mine (I don't actually know what it is, I just know it's low), and I throw the ball about 3 mph faster than you. I actually do have a Purple Hammer, but I'm planning on replacing my T-Zone with it. The thing I want to learn how to do the most is get my hand around the ball more, if I could get some help I would love that

The sudo Urethane ball is the 900 Global Badger Infused. It rolls great for me on short oil patterns and game 3 of a typical house pattern league. As for my rev rate... I have no idea what that is, but it's probably a medium rev rate.

The short answer is this: Urethane hooks in the front part of the lane, not the back ends. If you’re looking for urethane to shape the same as a reactive, you’re not going to see it. You need to adjust your visual perspective. Urethane blend balls like the UC3, create shapes with the downlane motion we are accustomed to. Simoo’s rev rate of 300 or so, is only low compare to rev rates of 400+. For those who have truly low rev rates such as less than 300, 200 or even in the 100 range, urethane might just work perfectly fine. The real test would be to actually take a random sampling of league bowlers, of different skill levels and genders, measured their rev rate, note their angles, and then have them test both typical urethane like the Pitch Black, and modern ones like the UC3. Only then will we truly know if urethane can be used, at least by certain kinds of bowlers, on house shots. The angles necessary for using urethane on house shots, aren’t the ones we are accustomed to, either. If we can relearn to square up to the lane, not to the target, if we can regain comfort playing outside 2nd arrow, if we can see a new shape, new for us, that is, of early hook and then control, urethane has a place-even on house shots. Last, the one thing urethane does allow, is for a bowler who is using reactive, but who encounters over/under/cliffed house shot conditions, to use urethane, and move back outside, or camp out with minimal movements. And for those who believe urethane makes things too easy, let’s please remember that when urethane was the only ball to use, and reactive resin was introduced, many bowlers said the same thing and felt the same way-that reactive resin balls were “cheater balls”, and makes the sport way too easy. At the end of the day, any ball, angle, target, speed, tilt or rotation that allows a bowler to get to the hole on the worst of days and leave makeables, or carry strikes on the best of days, is exactly what the bowler needs to use and do. So go ahead and experiment with modern urethane if you’re a low rev bowler. If you understand how it shapes compared to resin and where on the lane you need to target, it may well be a great option for you.

Not at all--my spare ball is a urethane Storm Mix with a conventional drilling. Even though it's a weak urethane cover with no core, just a weight block, using fingertip grips made it a little difficult for me to keep spare shots on line and straighter. Plugged and redrilled it conventionally and voila, end of problem!
