I love my pitch black, once I figured out how to use urethane I really really like the motion that the ball gives me. I like it so much I use it on house, lets me control wet/dry and doesn’t force me inside, I can just camp on the track for the whole set. I feel like I get a pretty liberal miss room even on sport when I can throw urethane. I get plenty of push if I grab it and some recover if I miss out. Love the stuff, plus I’m a lefty 😎 ready for the comments behind my back at the tournaments

Thanks Brad and Kyle for the Video! Can't agree more on the Purple Urethane as it seems to be my favorite ball. My rev rate is lower than most So I am able to stay right and increase ball speed as the lanes dry to constantly continue to Hammer the Pocket. My Hammer Black urethane is a great spare ball but without the rev rate of many of the pro's not ideal for me to use as a strike ball. Curious what your top Reactive balls are? hey guys, long time subscriber and fan. Question? The topic of speed changing when it comes to using Urethane was not addressed in this video and my 60 odd years of bowling has taught me that 'ball speed' is different with all the newer and newer balls and coverstocks. When Kyle is talking about that uncomfortable 16 board plus area where the Purple Hammer won't come back the way he wants it that's the time ball speed needs to be addressed I think, (sorry guys, I'm a retired teacher, it was a good living). I'm picking up my purple hammer this week, I'll let you know how I like it.

The thing i love about urethane is I can put as much surface as I want on it and it doesn't jump off the friction too quickly. Like Kyle said, it allows me to be aggressive with it as much as I want. I tend to keep my blue hammer at about 500 grit for the short sport shorts, Purple hammer usually about 1000 (in terms of true cut) for me and if i need to change the surface i will. Purple hammer is just a monster. Love them both :D

Seems like it was early 1980s when I saw guys hurling the blue and purple balls. Colors were a little more prominent. Must have been Hammers, since the colors are the same. I used a Johnny Petraglia LT-48 for a spell back then. It was like a sponge, with the oil track that returned... My high school graduation gift was a Dick Weber 5-star in 1971, from mom & dad. In Pensacola Navy comms school, it was a hefty walk from the barracks to the lanes on base, but I went home on leave to Calif. and brought that ball back to Florida. When stationed on a little base in nowhere, Morocco, a ball on the rack was the same Dick Weber as mine, drilled close to my hand!! About 2000 a local PBA pro resurfaced and regripped my ball. Glad i did!! Kyle, does Brad really think he's better than you...?

If you're only doing a typical 4 step approach then you could add another two steps to your approach that should help you a bit with ball speed/release. Depending on the pattern I usually have a typical 4 step approach and my ball speed averages around 16mph. Sometimes I need to speed it up a bit so I'll transition to a 6 step approach and with it I pick up more speed during my slide. It allows me to up my ball speed to about 17.5-18mph.

@@bowlingxp8345 i literally have one, and so does my friend. They don't absorb oil. That's the number one flag that your ball has plasticizer. Purple Hammer is a Pearlized Urethane cover, but it doesn't absorb oil . It's hard to explain how it's"pearlized" yet still urethane and doesn't absorb oil. A good way to compare is like a Storm Mix, although that's way way under the specific purple hammer potential. If you're thinking it can't possibly have overall hook potential like it does as a urethane you're sadly mistaken. In fact the Widow Urethane (Solid urethane cover) hooks over more boards than the purple hammer. The Purple Hammer just clears the fronts very well and has good downlane motion that gives it a hard hitting roll.

Brad and Kyle, I have a question My friend told me that when I bowl with Urethane I shouldn't wipe it off, but after we finish bowling I should clean it, he said that if I wipe it off I won't get carry down and the Urethane won't mess other people's lines up if I wipe it off, is that all true?, should I really just clean off my ball after I finish bowling instead of wiping the ball off after each shot like a normal ball?, what is the right thing to do?

Why did he tell you not to wipe it off? You should do what is best for you, not others.
@aimxiety6340
@aimxiety6340 3 жыл бұрын
The ball still picks up oil on it's way down the lane, so even if you wipe it off you still move the oil from the shot you just threw, but you also guarantee consistent reaction in the oil by cleaning the surface before each shot. Urethane shape is so reliant on its surface that if you arent wiping it off between each shot you're killing your own ball reaction and hurting your chance to score.
@MGW1974

One big question if you get this, I've heard players on tour having 14+lb balls, would you recommend having in my arsenal a 14lb ball? Exactly what weight?
@coopergates9680
@coopergates9680 3 жыл бұрын
@@liambarron9772 I have some 14, some 15, and some 16. In short, the further inside your break point is, the heavier the ball should be. Playing a fall back shot with 14 lb. is just asking for 5-7s, 4-5-7s, and 8-10s (righty)
@coopergates9680
@coopergates9680 3 жыл бұрын
@@liambarron9772 Also, dry lanes and/or high friction surfaces might favor 14 lb. because you can throw it harder.

why weight holes in the urethane. you cant use them in a couple of weeks. back in the 80s my black and blue hammer were drilled like yours. big hole drilled thru the double circle faball logo

What about the BW Urethane guys.....where does that fit in? Is it stronger than the purple?
@ksjlb2612
@ksjlb2612 3 жыл бұрын
Black Widow is asymetrical and Purple is symetric. On top of that, the Purple is an unshined pearl cover versus solid urethane cover for the Widow. My Widow will out hook the Purple, but the shapes are very different.

@ozneroll2132 3 жыл бұрын
@@ksjlb2612 yeah I know the asymmetric balls are more of a hockey stick pattern as compared to the more rounded curve of a symmetric ball. My interest was more about the coverstock. I have a BW urethane that I've never drilled and I was curious about the comparison between the two. Thanks for the reply.

I'm wondering what do pro bowlers do with their bowling balls after they get too many games or just don't do what you what you want them to do?
@elijahlefavour8562
@elijahlefavour8562 3 жыл бұрын
That generally doesn’t happen unless the ball’s core is damaged. If a ball has chips or small cracks you can always get it refinished.

@@elijahlefavour8562 yea but they drill up 3-4 or more balls per tournament i highly doubt that pros are running around with 120 bowling balls at the end of the year. back when i was a kid at the end of the tournaments they would give away a lot of the balls. they pros don't come here anymore so i haven't seen them for years so i don't know if they still give balls to the kids that are running around.

black widow urethane?

I bowled on sport shot and we switched lanes every two games of 4 a night. I always ended up bowling in urethane burnt lanes by the same team. Then one night I bowled on non urethane burnt lanes i shot a 300 on a KEGEL Middle Road. Big difference, move right and slow down speed. Or should be illegal. But I don’t make the rules.

I don't love urethane but it's no one job to optimize the playing surface to your game it's your job to figure out the shot.

Correct, you don't want to move too far past Center arrow with urethane because it will start going light for sure. Unless of course you're Jakob Buttruff or Jesper Svensson. The laws of physics do not apply to those two gentlemen.

The problem with urethane is that it picks up oil and drags it out to the dry which creates a pocket of oil and makes you adjust more when using a non urethane ball
