Is Vaping As Harmful As Smoking? New Study Reveals Similar DNA Damage

People who vape suffer similar changes to their DNA as smokers who develop cancer. Scientists at the University College London have revealed this is the first major study to make a link, and this comes as a new bill to protect future generations across the UK from the harmful impacts of smoking will be introduced to Parliament today.
Health Minister Maria Caulfield says 'We don't know the long-term effects of vaping.'

I didn't think it was legal for children to buy tobacco products now so why is a new law going to change that? Also, and I know that this is whataboutism, what about alcohol? Alcohol doesn't just cost lives and illness but it also destroys families. I love the idea that people who don't smoke don't get sick and die - newsflash - they do - just of something else!

Right at there beginning "this is the first major study to make that link", well doesn't that tell you something? It suggests to me it's hard to make that link! Pretty sure we've waisted a good few £'s on similar studies over the last decade or so!!!

The problem with vaping is that it's far worse for everyone else. When someone smokes a regular cigarette where they shouldn't it's pretty obvious. They have to light it and smoke it all. Vaping is too easy to hide so lots of people do it on trains and buses and inside at work. Vapes produce an aerosol like spray paint, or hairspray. When the "cloud" disappears it leaves behind a huge invisible cloud of ultra fine particles which the human eye cannot see. 90% of the particles we breath in the air around us are ultra fine particles of 0.1microns or less and worst for human health as the go deep into the lungs and all organs in the body, including the brain. Someone vaping produces something like 3,800 times the ultra fine particles of someone smoking, so in terms of polluting the air with the worst form of pollution, vaping is 3,800 times worse than smoking.

seriously? my partner works as a gp's receptionist and everyone who smokes cannabis is also on their books with mental health problems. now obviously this doesn't include all users of cannabis and all people with mental health but there does seem to be a link. it also doesn't make sense to me to be moving down the road to banning tobacco entirely we should be then replacing it with cannabis?

I always vape away from other people ! I was told by my GP 8 years ago that vaping is 5 x healthier than smoking , as I smoked from 15 yrs old till 38 then because of repeated severe chest problems I heard about vaping & thinking I was doing the right thing switched over! ?? I’m always open to trying healthier ways but nothing has worked so far. Have heard about a Nicotine free and tobacco & Tar free product called HUM but it’s so expensive it will be a while before I can try it.
