At the last day of the war her house got bombed into the ground while she was sitting in the bunker below. Yet when talking to her about it all she had to say was "the americans were so friendly. They took care of us after the war, when our house was destroyed they forced other families to take us in with them for the time so that we wouldn't have to be homeless." Vingroup is pretty laid back and in tie with Vietnamese government, the owner himself rooted back quite deeply with them, so the thought of Vingroup is the given the power to grow to amass power like a right hand of Vietnam government is not irrational. The telecom group of Vietnam spreading out in other country is a not a private own company but militarily based coporation, so whether you think it's imperialising or helping or invading, it's about your opinion, but since they're militarily based, they have all the resources to give good services with low price. Understandable because poor countries like Haiity suffer natural disaster all the time, only group like Viettel has the balls to invest in them.

I watch so many videos from Vietnam and China... I have a general impression that half the people in Asia are wearing t-shirts that say "New York" or "NYC" or something. I know it's not that many, but I notice it constantly! I think you have to be WAY out in the country in China until you see someone in a t-shirt with Chinese characters on it. I'm not hating this, it's just odd. If I was living in a big city in China I don't think I would be impressed by New York! I have not traveled the world personally by the way. My impression (from KZbin and a few travelers) is that you can get a better meal wherever you happen to be standing in Vietnam than anywhere in America I have ever been. If Vietnamese people are turning into workaholics that's a SHAME, but as a retired guy I can say I would personally be glad to sit around and drink tea, wander down the street/alley and see what people are cooking.... maybe drink a little liquor from an unlabeled plastic jug.... Things that just are not happening in America, where really we don't like to go outside.

"Describing an incident in Ho Chi Minh City in March 2007, two months before he went missing after fleeing to Cambodia, Le Tri Tue, a Vietnamese labor activist said: “While walking down the main street of Phu Nhuan District, I was approached by two policemen who asked me to come to the police station with them. When I refused, they beat me. I had been beaten many times before by people on the street. The police had told me that they were just locals who hated people who struggled against the government, but I believe that they were secret agents. I was scared so I never told anyone about the beatings. But this was the first time I had been beaten by policemen in uniform. “ ^^^ “The Vietnamese government responded to the surge in strikes and labor activism in 2006 with threats, legal sanctions, and arrests-as well as some reforms, such as wage increases for workers at state- and foreign-invested enterprises as well as government employees. Fearful of political instability and upsetting foreign investors in advance of the APEC summit, during the latter part of 2006 the Vietnamese government took steps to shut down independent union activities in Vietnam, as well as contacts between Vietnamese activists and their supporters abroad. In August 2006 police in Ho Chi Minh City arrested Huynh Viet Lang, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party who had issued a lengthy critique of Vietnam’s violations of labor rights. In October 2006, democracy activist Le Thi Cong Nhan was denied a passport and barred from traveling to Warsaw, Poland to attend a conference on workers’ rights in Vietnam organized by CPVW, where she was to present a paper. ^^^ In November 2006 police arrested all of UWFO’s known members in Vietnam, including Doan Huy Chuong, Doan Van Dien, Tran Thi Le Hang, Nguyen Thi. Tuyet, Le Ba Triet, Nguyen Tuan, and Ly Van Sy. Police prevented other activists, including Le Thi Cong Nhan and IWUV leaders Nguyen Khac Toan and Tran Khai Thanh Thuy, from leaving their homes or receiving visitors. Police padlocked the back door to Nguyen Khac Toan’s house and guarded the front door, where they placed an English-language sign stating, "Security area. No foreigner allowed." The arrests and detention of the labor activists were followed by trials in which at least eight were convicted and sentenced to prison for violating national security provisions of Vietnam’s penal code. These prosecutions violated Vietnam’s obligations under international human rights law to uphold the rights to freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly."

Did he just claim, w/ a straight face, that state-affiliated Vietnamese labor unions- esp. prior to new laws supposedly "allowing WROs (independent unions)"- have "autonomy" and "strike frequently"? ...the unions affiliated with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL)?? lol Did he look that up, or did Luna feed him some more horseshit with her weird, idealized 'take' of "Vietnamese socialism in the modern era"?? As stated above, until perhaps recently, Vietnamese 'unions' are all, more or less, under the umbrella of the VGCL, which, from what I can tell, is the 'Vietnamese equivalent' of the ACFTU in China, which, for a while, was pretty "impotent" when it came to "truly fighting for and representing workers." Wildcat strikes in China, for, like, the last 10 or 20 years, have been LEGION, all across the country! Hell, anyone remember, for example, the JASIC strike? Similarly, probably, is the situation in Vietnam w/ regard to "impotent" or "inert" state unions... Not to mention that there are *several* stories in recent years about Vietnamese authorities- at various levels of gov't, I think- 'cracking down' on striking workers in *various* situations! "They struck at the wrong time" or some horseshit, probably What "autonomy" is EJ even referring to, then? Has he himself, even, worked in that kind of labor environment with an "active, vibrant union that always represents us quickly when shit goes wrong"?? Did Luna work many jobs like that? ...I wonder Granted, I can't speak for the claim that, "all companies must have a union" in Vietnam, though I guess it doesn't sound too 'out of the ordinary', theoretically. But EJ almost seems to be giving this really-weird impression that Vietnamese unions, "have a lot of freedom to strike and do as they will to represent and fight for workers immediately." But that's... perhaps not quite 'the case', assuming the countless stories reporting, in many instances, state authorities "cracking down" on striking workers are remotely true Lastly... did EJ really just compare the "weird", state-run union system in Vietnam to "union rules w/ regard to the NLRB" in America?? lol. You gotta be fucking kidding me here... Where does EJ *get* this shit?? Does Luna just tell him, "all this stuff I 'know' for sure about Vietnam" ,and he just agrees and regurgitates it?? Does he not know how to do basic, independent research on his own?? At the very least, I'm interested to know his 'sources' of info on 'Vietnamese unionizing'?
