Is WHATABURGER Worth The Hype? Trying Texas' Iconic Chain

When it comes to legendary local chains, Californians swear by In-N-Out Burger. while Midwesterners all swear by Culver's. However, one chain that frequently is touted as one of the best American fast food chains is Whataburger in Texas. Whataburger has hundreds of locations, not just in Texas but also other parts of the South, parts of the American Southwest, and parts of the Midwest. Texans swear by it and tout it as hands down the best of the fast food chains.
I was in Dallas, Texas and Fort Worth for the weekend so I figured I'd try it. I was disappointed by In N Out when I was in LA, so I sufficiently set my expectations this time around. I tried the Whataburger milkshake, the Whataburger fries, the Whataburger spicy ketchup, a Whataburger, and a Whataburger patty melt. As always, I am committed to giving honest reviews always and everything was reviewed fairly. I will say though, you can't convince me Whataburger fries are not McDonald's fries. In a blind taste test of Whataburger fries vs McDonald's fries I bet you won't be able to tell the difference! The fact that UA is himself and acts like a normal person makes the channel very appealing. The quality of the editing is good too and not too slick or overdone. And I can’t explain it, but the campy background music is a big plus.

Is it just for Sport Team support or for advertising? In order for the worker to have the hat, the Supervisor must have handed it to her, to give to UA. Or the worker was the Supervisor. So how likely is a worker able to use company supplies to remove support for a rival sports team? Just ask him to REMOVE HIS BEENIE??I believe the advertising angle.

So the thing about In-N-Out is the freshness. Nothing is frozen, ever. Even the fries, although not anybody's favorite, is literally just sliced potato. The burgers and meals are also inexpensive. Combine fresh, non frozen ingredients, and price, makes it awesome.

You do realize Whataburger doesn't freeze their meat either? And it's always cooked to order. I'm from California originally and I live in Texas now so I'm very familiar with both of them and I can honestly say In N Out burgers are better, but Whataburger does have a really good burger, and they have onion rings. Whataburgers menu is much larger and everything is pretty darn good there. I don't particularly like In-N-Out burgers fries.

Glad you got a chance to try Whataburger! I always wondered what you would think of it. The black parts on the top bun is because you double toast your burger. I thought that meant they would toast one side twice to make it extra crispy, but it means that they toast BOTH the top and bottom part of the same bun (like you would toast). Usually people just get the standard Whataburger and they miss out on what makes Whataburger really special (everything else basically) so it's cool that you also got to try a Patty Melt. I hate how the standard Whatabuger just comes with mustard even though traditional southern or Texas burgers back in the old days just come with mustard. If it comes with ketchup as well or ketchup and mayo by default alongside the mustard then I think it would be so much better. Fun fact you can add grilled onions or substitute mustard for any of Whataburger's special sauce for free. After Whataburger removed their delicious Monterey Melt Burger, I would get a Bacon Jalapeno and Cheese Whataburger with grilled onions and sub their mustard for the jalapeno ranch IF I had to get a burger (I usually only go for their chicken strips or breakfast). I'd rather go to In-N-Out for a cheeseburger though. I don't think you can get a better fast food cheeseburger at that price. However, if you want specialty burgers, chicken products (love their chicken strips with gravy), breakfast, or shakes I'd rather go to Whataburger. Culvers stomps both of them though and is my favorite fast food place of all time.

When I was in the middle west I visited them. The most interesting thing to me was they always asked mayo or mustard? I always said "all 3 mayo, mus6 and ketchup." I was so amused bc they acted as if that's blasphemy 🤣 😂

Many visitors never see a Buccees in Texas because many of them fly into the state rather than driving and seeing it on the interstate. Also Buccees isn’t that common in Texas even though it’s from there

I had whataburger in AZ once and was really impressed.The toppings were plentiful and tasty. I know you don't like pickles on the burger so maybe that was the problem with the first burger. Also, free hat! Cool. Shake looks great, fries look great, I love In-N-Out also, can't beat it. I think you can't knock WaB for the toasted bun, YOU ordered it that way.

I love the generosity of whataburger. I've gotten 2 or 3 free meals in the past few months from the app. Also, there's add ons to customize a whataburger... I add jalapeños to make it 100x better.

I’ve eaten a plenty Whataburger hamburgers and I would not say that Whataburger is the best fast food burger. I can say that I’ve never send their burgers look like that one. This is more proof that even though all the restaurants should prepare the food the same, they do not. Love the video!

Just a guess but I don't think the blue stripped receipt is typical. The reason most receipts have color like that is when it gets towards the end of the reel. It reminds the cashier to get ready to replace it.

If only you’d had it before the family sold out to Chicago finance bros. They don’t even know how to make pizza up there, so it’s no surprise that they quickly ruined Whataburger. Before they got their fat, sport- pepper and polish-sausage flavored mitts on it, Whataburger was sublime. It was the first place all of our Northeastern relatives wanted to go when they got to Dallas.

Love your videos and reviews; and I am a new subscriber. Whataburger needs to eaten warm and fresh and do not “toast both sides” of the buns. I tried it after watching this video and I agree, it’s not great and I was kinda repulsed by it. So take it from a Texan, and enjoy a Whataburger as it’s offered (don’t double toast the buns) and eat it while it’s hot; I promise you that you’ll love it. “Justaburger” makes me sad 😞

Lmaoooo I miss that Monterrey Melt they had and the Bacon Bleu Cheese burger hit the spot!!! Best thing to do to an OG Whataburger sandwich is to always add XTRA grilled jalapeño and grilled onion to your burger with either mayo/ ketchup or mayo/ pepper sauce and it hits everytime. Don’t sleep on the breakfast either!! Whataburger breakfast is probably best bang for your buck for a decent breakfast. The pancakes are HUGE and actually flavorful / substantial unlike McDonald’s

Informative review, asking for a burger without cheese is the main takeaway on the regular burger, pattymelt is better and milkshakes are great. We went to South Padre Island in 1991,we were from New York. We never tasted anything like it,we ate there every day for ten days. Great hangover food. Like all good chains,quality seems to drop over the years. We don’t have any good chains here
