My carbs/diet are split evenly between beans, grains, vegetables, and fruit. *Edit: I try to consume 2 portions of nuts and seeds as well.* This works perfectly for me. I imagine you'd be just fine consuming solely fruits as well.

Pretty Vicious yeah except rice isn't a sentient being. So the only living being you hurt when you eat it is yourself. If you're extensively health conscious then it's important to avoid, but if your main motivation in being vegan is ethics, there is really no need to avoid it if you don't want to. You can't compare the two. Meat is the flesh of another being. Rice is a grain. It's not the same thing at all.

I've come to love really love brown rice so I can't wait for the next video. I've started boiling it with extra water to get rid of some of the arsenic. I have white rice (basmati) once in a blue moon because I think it just goes better with some dishes. I guess I'll have to start weaning myself off of rice

Asians thrive on white rice, living long lives. Eat what you want. But it is an improvement to use half brown rice and half white. You get the best of both. My Korean girlfriend always did this and I continue to enjoy it. Just cook or soak the brown first for a while then add the white and finish. Get a pressure cooker if you don't have one.

Here are some tips if anyone is ever planning on going vegan: Tip 1: *Take b12* (because it's a bacteria found in dirt, which we used to eat but now we have to wash our plants to prevent excess pesticide consumption so we don't get as much anymore) Tip 2: **Put in notes (on your phone or something) regular fast food chains like mcdonalds and wendys, and see what they have vegan there,** other than the salads and stuff. Then write those options down, so you know what's vegan the moment you arrive there (So you won't be stressed or forced into eating meat). That's what I do. Tip 3: **Eat varied stuff and enjoy some vegan junk food** from time to time, especially in the transition phase to prevent you from losing heart. Tip 4: **If you live with avid meat eaters as a family, try establishing a deal with them.** For example: I won't eat any dairy or meat for the entire week but I will eat it once or twice every Sunday (Compromise). If I see I am healthy with a blood test, Then I will cut it out after a month or two and you can't force me to eat meat again. Tip 5: **Don't forget your OMEGAS!*** Eat nuts and seeds but don't forget to eat seaweed, kelp, algae or other sea plants as well! These have different types of omegas that nuts don't necessarily contain, so that will help. (Take it like once a week if you want). Tip 6: **Ask yourself "What is my favourite food currently that's not necessarily vegan?" Then Go online and search up the vegan recipe to that meal** (It will basically just swap the cow's milk for vegan milk and the egg for a vegan egg replacer most of the time) . I almost guarantee there will be vegan alternatives that taste just as good. Tip 7: **Constantly educate yourself** by checking out www.nutritionfacts.org , What the health movie and the like, so you don't allow others to take advantage of that fact and tell you false information. This will also encourage you to aspire for a healthier life without giving up :). Tip 8: *Try Cooking* Tip 9: *EAT ENOUGH* :). Good luck! Don't lose hope my fellow vegans, vegetarians or simply people who are slowly transitioning to a plant based diet!

HEB in Texas sells Brown Jasmine Whole Grain Brown Rice Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice. Product of Thailand. I far as I know it's the rice grown in the U.S. on land where cotton was previously grown that has the arsenic.

Can you please make a video on MOLD MYCOTOXINS in high moldy foods including beans, peanuts, corn, dried fruits, apple cider vinegar, coffee? They cause inflammation and disrupt the immune system. It was mentioned earlier that non-USA rice has 41% less arsenic, but as stated in this one there is no acceptable lower limit for arsenic, thus the notion of is it the rice or is it in spite of the rice in terms of all the vegetables eaten with it. The suggestion here is to place it into the avoid category until proven otherwise . This is called the Prevention Principle. Do whatever you like with this information, but you're better off knowing than not knowing. Meanwhile, lots of other whole grains to try out! More tubers as well as pastas. It's not as if you're out of options

I don't think consumers reports tested protein powders, but all the other foods they tested that had rice in them also had lots of arsenic. From my line of thinking (especially with T. Colin Campbell's "The China Study" and "Whole" as a backdrop), any protein powder from any source is not healthy for you. It's isolated and processed. Doesn't matter if it comes from milk (whey) or peas or rice. If you want the full benefits of protein, you need the whole food. Flooding your body with isolated nutrients regardless of the nutrient can cause a serious imbalance. Most people, even those that eat plant-based, get more protein than they need. Your body also recycles amino acids to maintain the balance. Too much protein and you stress your kidneys and reduce (although there is some contention) calcium and other minerals when your body works to get rid of excess protein. Eat whole food and if you need more protein, the line of thinking here is, you also need more calories. Athletes, those that pretty much train nearly every day for Olympic type events for example, are those that can benefit anyway from the increase in calories but they don't need the amount of protein that the mainstream has been pushing. Much of the "protein" pushing comes from the animal products industry. I only need 42 grams of protein but I get around 60-70 on a daily basis through whole foods. I run daily but not for sport. If I did plan to train for a half marathon or a full one, I would likely need to increase my calories but I wouldn't worry about my protein levels.

@Sasha ASMR: If you lower your intake, arsenic will slowly find its way out of your body such that your body levels will come to equilibrium with your intake. Its impossible to get rid of completely, but having less of it in your diet is good... Seeing as there is no frickin' safe amount, and rice on average seems to have 150-200 ppb... whereas the max amount of arsenic allowed in US drinking water is 10 ppb. Yeah, rice is THAT high... 20 times the maximum drinking water limit. Consumers reports feels the drinking water limit should be closer to 3 ppb rather than 10 ppb. 10 ppb is still too high. @cubsfan7081: No. Varieties from india and thailand seemed to have arsenic in the range of 80-150 ppb (parts per billion), california being similar or higher (150-200 ppb), whereas southern states rice seems to have arsenic in that 200-350+ ppb range. For comparison, drinking water standards in the US for arsenic are set at 10 ppb (which consumers reports feels it should be more like 3 ppb). Rice, even the lowest arsenic containing in the world is 8 times that! There seems to be no safe rice. This is why Dr. Greger has been on his rice kick lately... This is a real major problem with rice food safety. The worst part is that its a human made disaster. Farmers using arsenic containing insecticides for decades (banned by 1960s) have put so much arsenic in the soil, and rice, for some reason, loves to take up arsenic! The places with the worst arsenic contaminated soil have the most arsenic in the rice. @@lulolancy They claim that their arsenic levels are at "drinking water levels safe". Better than others but Dr. Greger made a video explaining how drinking water levels of arsenic are not really safe. Those level limits are based on financial decisions, not health. I would say if you're going to eat rice, limit it as much as possible (like once a month, tops), get the ones with the lowest levels of arsenic possible (typically India, Pakistan or California) and wash it as if its pasta with a 10 to 1 ratio of water.

Doc, be careful your IGF-1 levels don't rise, because of you milking this rice subject. I do notice you stopped taking the unnaturally long pauses in your speech, but still I get the feeling you're stretching the subject more than is comfortable. Maybe not time wise, but when you have this large a body of content on a single subject at hand, I think we can handle a video of 15 minutes for once. I suspect the KZbin algorithms encourage you to do it this way, so you reach more of your subscribers. But one more "next" at the end of a rice-video and I think I'll sit this one out until the playlist gets out. Much like the binge-watching I did when I first discovered your channel a couple of years back.

Pardon my non pc comment, but how stupid can people be? They actually fully "trust" what they read in studies, or what others say. The ONLY truths are the ones you experience for yourself. REAL experience takes effort and time! Welcome to reality - too bad it is so rare. Instead we have "controversies" and so called debates. Newsflash: There are no controversies- only lack of self experienced truths.

The only good studies are those that you systematically reviewed, drilled down all the way, including methodology, and then experienced it numerous times for a long time for yourself, as well as confirmed with many other people doing the same exact thing. The rest is all just soap opera and mumbo jumbo no matter how many researchers, medical journalists, regulators or journalists think they know. They may even mean well.

Rice is my favourite food. I eat a plate of white rice with vegan butter and salt pretty much everyday. 🙁

TheVeganWolf The saturated fat in the vegan butter can clog your insulin receptor sites, which when combined with the high sugar content of rice can lead to diabetes. Best to leave the butter out!

I'm with TheOnlyFairee here. "vegan" butter (unless you use Chuck Underwood's vegan butter -- www.brandnewvegan.com/?s=butter ) is filled with oils...processed, unhealthy, oil. You'd be better off dropping the "butter" and looking into finding new ways to flavor your food.

sure you can ... some people smoke their whole life and never get lung cancer... just eat a shitload of cancer fighting foods with your white rice or in the meal before or after. remember that Greger tells you what is optimal from our current body of evidence. But gravity existed before science could prove it did. So what we know today might be different tomorrow, so just do the best you can and remember that if you put a lot on the "negative weight scale" in one meal then put a lot on the positive in another meal.

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! And I completely empathise with your frustration. But someone has to get this information out. It doesn't look like our government "protection" agencies will. The doc gives us the science, we're better informed, and going foreword we're empowered to make better choices. I'm sure most of us would rather know.

Eating rice is way better than eating fast foods so I say stick to rice and dump the fast food.

Almost everything we eat today seems to have something in it that is harmful to us. I guess my point is rice is healthier than fast foods so it's better to stick to these types of foods. I actually dislike this channel because all there seems to be is topics about what is harmful in our foods. The stress from worrying about every little thing we eat is probably more harmful than the food itself.

Where does it say it leaves the body in 24 hours? Also if we're eating rice everyday then it means it's in the system continuously so that isn't good. Also I'd rather be informed about my food than not. Oatmeal is working out just fine for now as I explore other whole grains. I'm going to try more Barley and Buckwheat

waltersumofan In the modern world some things or all things are going to be contaminated eventually, unless we outlaw the use of man made chemicals, pesticides, ect. The Amish are not even safe from the chem trails. Btw I believe I remembered him saying that it washes out in 24 hrs in another one of his rice arsenic vids but can't remember which.. there's like 11 of them!
