I got robbed at knifepoint in Wisbech so I agree with the unsafe stance shown here

Since the Grammar school became private, the town lost its only good school to weathy(ish) families who come into the normal shopping parts down Churchill Road avoiding the town centre all together. Shutting the train station in 65 just after we moved there from central london really was the death knell for the town. Now called Little Lithuania.

@@pianystrom8137 it is a slur, albeit a light hearted one, it implies that people from Norfolk are stupid, in fact the term "normal for Norfolk" was actually a legitimate term used by doctors until about 25 years ago.

Wisbech is a dying town, has not moved on from its Edwardian(?) days. When I was up there a few years back (circa 2018 -2021) for a small sleepy little town, it’s rife with criminal activity, homelessness, and drug addiction. dunno how the dump still retains the “capital of the fens” title really…honestly glad I’ve moved like 100 off miles away from this black hole of a place.

My Grandparents lived in St Johns Fen End in Wisbech until my grandad passed in 2003 we used to spend all our school holidays there as kids, Not another house in sight just fields, Used to travel to Lynn for shopping, The best childhood memories. Really hard to hear these bad takes on the area, I drove down a few years ago and parked near their house just to look around and the family offered to show us around the house and were lovely. I do remember their being a lot of immigrants working in car washes/farms etc, But the understanding was they were just really hard worker.. Maybe i’m naive as i was so young, but from being pretty well travelled in the UK/Europe - I didn’t feel unsafe or cautious at any point when i last visited, I think if you picked families from innercity areas in london, birmingham etc - I’m pretty sure they’d give their right arm for the surroundings in Wisbech, But I guess people who’ve lived there for so long notice the changed a lot easier than i would 😊

Sorry but st John's fen end is not in wisbech, for a start it's in Norfolk, wisbech is in Cambridgeshire, although it does boast a really rough little council estate, dades lane.

The closest city, Peterborough, was recently voted worst in the UK for the 2nd year running. With only that information it's pretty safe to assume that Wisbech is probably bottom half of the table, that's not even mentioning the crimes making Wisbech headlines the past couple of weeks

I stayed in Wisbech for eight months once. I found the people friendly, but not positive to foreigners. I am a native of Sweden, so I was met with mixed feelings. 90 percent wanted to have fun and party, 10 percent showed hostility. I still love Wisbech. It was my home for a short time. And I felt at home. Damn, you had Euphoria and the Angel!

I lived in Wisbech a long time ago having been released from a custodial sentence. Town had little to go for it other than lots of work seasonal or otherwise. Over riding memory is that nearly all of the local women looked as if they hd been bred for the plough. Huge arses and strength upper body to match it. Things have changed a bit since the invasion of poles and russian girls but hey, with a culture that is bred to breed then a great place to lose virginity so long a offers of lifelong partnership are not followed up.

Such a shame.Personally I like Wisbech,a once proud town and important port but suffered like an abandoned child to Kings Lynn and Peterborough over the years as the Nene silted up through lack of use and the Canal fell into disuse.South Brink has marvellous buildings often used in many films. The Horsefair was a typical 70s project to replace what was a bit of a dump area but today Horsefair is all but dead sadly. However it has an amazing cinema well worth visiting. The market place used to be vibrant but now is a shadow of its former self. I hope one day the town will rise from the ashes and be proud once again.Do take time to visit the many enjoyable buildings still in Wisbech to visit.

I just spent 6 weeks there over summer and honestly I thought it was a great place! It is a little bit run down, or shabby, in parts, but it has heaps of wonderful history and plenty of potential. If you just want shops, go to Milton Keynes! The museum is awesome, Peckover House and gardens is beautiful, the park is lovely, and there are great bus services to surrounding cities. Very friendly people too. There are beautiful places to visit nearby like Welney Wetland Centre. I'll definitely visit again. From New Zealand 😀

I think if everyone in most small towns, villages pulled there head out of their phones and band together more you wouldn't necessarily need more police. Everyone is to divided or to distracted in this day n age. United Kingdom, maybe just Kingdom?

1---We need to develop the water fronts and privatise in 2-5km patch with boat-hotels and venues and tourism 2--. Improve the schools and people's mentality by opening up inviting other city events weather in sports or education or science projects this increases competition and knowledge sharing 3--. More job opportunity focus on manufacturing industries and bring variety of sector in coucil can do that we have water ways start using it commercially for transport and port purpose redesign and plan it out 4---. Well Planned agriculture which is wat wisbech was known for at one time highest tax paying town in UK 5--. Railways and institute to be started and run at full scale with planning to grow and revamp every 10years 6-- start community work mandatory at school and colleges and hospitals nearby like kingslynn and P.boro this way youth of all ages will interact socialise with elderly and help ppl of other town this builds relation between two towns and closes in on age gap and youth will get rough idea about life and choices This will bring in good amt of money and crowd who will help wisbech flourish and for foreign nationals protect and do not discriminate foreigner they will only add into the economy and growth

Wisbech has its moments lived there 6 years ago for 2 years, well was homeless and sofa surfing and in hostel (btw the hostel is a joke). Anyway Wisbech has some wonderful history and the museum is a great place (if still open), yes church gardens used to be a rough place and that was a shame. Locals are a little grumpy at times and as for the foreigners they can be a handleful. McDonald's is a good place to do police car watching lol All in all Wisbech has history (that's good), high homeless and Drug use and for a town that size is not good. If only more money was invested in the town it could become something much better, bring the charm back

It doesn't help that the police station and court house was closed and Cambridgeshire police are disinterested, or get paid by certain people to look the other way. The town is lawless . Like when a young builder attacked me in broad daylight yesterday. I'm 5 feet high and aged 68 years old and quite frail, but he hit me like he'd hit a man. Police aren't interested at all. I have 2 witnesses, who yelled at him and stopped him doing more damage. I have the video of it happening, but when I phoned police, they were not interested at all. Nobody has come to my home to take a statement, not contacted the witnesses, not emailed me or phoned me to see how I am. I have not even been given a crime number or incident number. You see, I'm just an old woman. I'm not rich, or important and I don't give 'donations' to the police, so I don't matter. Had he killed me Kambs Kops would have stomped all over the scene, and declared I must have tripped and fallen and there was no crime committed.
