I went to a Catholic School during 1952 through 1960. I had a Benedictine nun every year as my teacher. I learned so well from them that when I went to Public high school they thought I was a genius. My test scores were so high but it was the nuns who gave it to me. I wish I had a school like this for my granddaughter who is now 12 to go to. But we don’t have any place like this. We started her in a public school, they had no books, after kindergarten and 1st grade she couldn’t read at all. Now she has been doing a home school program and a girl friend who is 1 year older had to get my granddaughter to tell her what was printed on a sign.

I was an educator for forty years. I have seen the demise of education in the public schools. It is scary to me. Yet so,much money is spent on public education. If I had to choose for my children now I would look at the options in the private schools. This invaluable discussion will be an eye opener for parents now.. It is the best discussion I have heard in maybe forty years. By I take heart that there are still schools out there that are providing the goods. Parents just have to search harder to seek them out. By the way I studied Latin all through high school and in first year university. I went to McGill university to get a degree in education. I guess back then I was getting a classical education but in a public school.. But since the Sixties, everything started to change very quickly and it all started to go down hill. Now it is a mess. I worry about our schools and the direction they are following. I worry for the kids and their parents. I like to be an optimist and think I am but it is increasingly difficult in these times.

Beautiful sisters! This is the best education for our children, not homeschooling. Unfortunately too few people know the value of the educational religious orders. I have my own daughters enrolled in a school run by Dominican sisters and I'm impressed every day by their love and dedication to their students and how the students blossom under their watch. What a treasure!
@patriciasmith7074Ай бұрын
@@theresejudith6197 Well you are very lucky to have Dominican nuns teaching in a school that is available. There is one Catholic grade school but only lay teachers and it is extremely expensive and I’m a widow grandmother sharing my home with my daughter and her daughter. My daughter worked herself so hard to make perfect grades from 4th grade on because she wanted to be a doctor. She had a pretty good paying job but she was the youngest one, last hired and it took her several years to build her income. Then under Obama all reimbursements were significantly reduced so she started making less money. She had several school loans that she had to pay for. She is 58 years old now and she still has one loan left that she is still paying for. While driving to her office to work a semitruck hauling a full trailer full of cases of beer decided to pull over into the right lane where she was driving, he hit her left rear fender, spun her around and hit her again all along the entire drivers side, impaling her car on his big chrome front grill. He completely destroyed her right shoulder joint, ripped the bicep muscle, she receive a traumatic brain injury, he destroyed her pituitary gland which controls all functions of all hormones and chemical controls of body functions,no she has to have injections and a constant pump that has a needle stuck in her leg administering chemicals that she needs to stay alive. Another needle type devise is poked in her arm to measure her blood sugar at all times because it will drop so low that she goes unconscious. The hospital after letting her continue to work as a ICU doctor and Pulmonologist for 3 years decided to fire her claiming without cause because the truth was she wasn’t perfectly healthy anymore. Then one of her partners was so mad that he resigned too. The hospital hired a new guy thinking he would replace the two doctors but he said he wouldn’t do the hard stuff but he wanted to make a lot of money but not work very hard. Funny thing is her patients tried to find her but couldn’t because nobody told them where she was so they quit going to that office and the hospital went under and they lost it. It is being completely bought out now by a University and they will staff it with only their doctors.

“A culture of excellence” A far cry from my experience in public school, where complaint and mediocrity hung oppressively over us. Another thing I noticed in this conversation, from the sisters’ overall notion of “training the faculties” but especially when the view is broadened to the whole nature by means of extracurriculars, is the profound respect which this mode of education has for the dignity of the child. Far more so than the faux respect displayed when the kids are merely bombarded with information and tossed into the sea of their own untrained curricular preferences under a libertine pretense of autonomy.

I think entering the workforce asap is fine for some people. We do need worker ants. But if everyone is an industrial worker, who is going to lead? Probably the biggest and meanest and most power hungry. In my opinion, it is important that there are good schools who are forming good people to be the leaders of tomorrow. Too many public schools just churn out workers for the state who can’t think for themselves and just go with the flow.
@creativecatproductions2 ай бұрын
@@S-z714 we have too many wanna be leaders loaded down with educations they don’t need or use. An alarming number of people have and continue to graduate from colleges with a liftime of debt and almost no real professional prospects and for no other reason than conveentional wisdom wouldn’t steer them in any other direction. Everyone just assumes going to college is a default choice or that, somehow, it will pay off in some vague way in the future. Almost everybody is better off staying close to their parents and siblings and builing a life together. After contraception and pharmaceuticals, really, I think “going to college” has done the most harm to society as a whole: creating debt, destroying the family, divorcing the young from the values and traditions of their ancestors, and so on.

This caught my attention, too. I think they eventually explained that nothing is ultimately censored, but that they are mindful of what exposure a 10 year old has, vs. a 16 year old, to the very adult classics. A facile example would be a 4th grade intro to the gods, but without all the rapey stuff, and then the unedited version in a high school literature class. Everyone needs to be educated properly, educated with knowledge that is accurate, true, and not being fed falsehoods. So, what did Jesus say about his disciples being educated accurately ? This: "It is written in the Prophets (at Isa 54:13): ‘They will all be taught by Jehovah (God's name).’ Everyone who has listened to the Father (Jehovah God) and has learned comes to me (as the channel through which Jehovah educates his people)."(John 6:45) But has the Catholic church taught sincere people about Jehovah God ? No. Rather, it has hidden God's name of Jehovah, whereby the city of Jerusalem starts with the same Hebrew letter of Yod as Jehovah, and in which at 2 Kings 24:3-5 (4 Kings 24:3-5, Catholic Douay Version) the Hebrew letters of Yod He Waw that are the first three Hebrew letter for Jehovah, and are the same three Hebrew letters that begins the names of Jehoiakim, Judah and Jehoiachin. For example, in a letter dated June 29, 2008, to presidents of Catholic bishops’ conferences, the Vatican stated: “In recent years the practice has crept in of pronouncing the God of Israel’s proper name.” The letter gives this pointed direction: “The name of God . . . is neither to be used or pronounced.” Furthermore, “for the translation of the Biblical text in modern languages, . . . the divine tetragrammaton is to be rendered by the equivalent of Adonai/Kyrios: ‘Lord.’” Clearly, this Vatican directive is aimed at eliminating the use of God’s name, the most important name in the universe. At Isaiah 62:6, 7, it ACCURATELY states: "Upon your walls, O (symbolic) Jerusalem, I have commissioned (spiritual) watchmen. Continuously, all day long and all night long, they should not be silent. You who make MENTION ("mention", Hebrew zakar, meaning "to remember, recall, call to mind, to mention") of Jehovah, do NOT rest, and do not give him any rest until he firmly establishes (symbolic) Jerusalem, yes, until he makes her the praise of the earth.”(2013 New World Translation) So, those who are "taught by Jehovah" extol his holy name, whereby Jesus said in prayer to Jehovah: "I have made your NAME (and NOT titles) manifest to the men whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word........I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you." "Holy Father (Jehovah and NOT the Pope), watch over them on account of your own name, which you have given me, so that they may be one (in unity) just as we are one (in unity).......I have made your NAME known to them and will make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.”(John 17:6, 11, 26)
