My FD has had several Special Detail (everything from cat in a tree to water leaks the homeowner can't turn off or find a valve) calls with this tubing in homes built in the last few years. Properly installed copper pluming is always the best way to go. It's more expensive, but a couple thousand $'s for the install is much better than 10's of thousands of $'s of damage and days or weeks of repairs later.
@Proinspectsolutions9 күн бұрын
You’re right-copper has stood the test of time for a reason. Proper planning and installation make all the difference!
@Tomana_Күн бұрын
that the company added a color sheath instead of the color being in the tubing should have been an immediate red flag before buying it

Thanks for your question! Manufacturers have addressed many past issues, but product quality varies by brand and type. Clear PEX pipes are typically designed for specific uses and meet industry standards. The problem extends to all pex a to a lesser extent. A the stretching process to Blame along with the heat treating. And chlorinated water makes it worse It’s a very complex issue .

Heat treatment of PEX-A is a basic manufacturing process and is independent of the color of the pipe!

You're right-heat treatment in PEX-A manufacturing is independent of pipe color.

Except for one spot, I put in all that pex myself. Fortunately almost all my pex is in basement runners so leaks should be easily visible.

This is exactly why I won’t use any but copper with sweat joints. No “ProPress” either. Every contractor that has been around long enough remembers CPVC and Polybutylene issues
@ProinspectsolutionsАй бұрын
Great point! There’s definitely peace of mind in sticking with tried-and-true materials like copper with sweat joints. History has taught us a lot about material reliability, and it's always better to be cautious when it comes to something as critical as plumbing or wiring!
@topfell8277Ай бұрын
Damn right only copper for me.Been sweating for yesrs
@redbaron6805Ай бұрын
There is no guarantee the sweat was done correctly, or is any better than ProPress fittings. Ultimately, people just gravitate to what they know and are used to. You talk to 10 different plumbers, and everyone will swear by a certain method, whether it is CPVC, Pex, Copper or other type of plumbing. It all depends on the installation, the water type, temperature, environmental factors and dozens of other factors...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While it's true that material choice is important, modern PEX systems like Uponor's are rigorously tested for durability and safety. They're widely trusted for their resistance to corrosion and freezing. Always a good idea to explore all options to find what works best for your needs!

I live in Phoenix,AZ. If a building material is not metal or stone, it does not belong in this desert. PEX is just so much rat and mouse bait.
@redbaron6805Ай бұрын
It can be, but there is no one size fits all. My area has a massive problem with hard water causing pitting and leaks in copper pipes. I have had to spend thousands of dollars to fix copper pipes already. PEX can freeze without bursting, copper can't. While that is not an issue in my area, it is a huge issue in other areas. There is no perfect plumbing type. They all have their advantages and drawbacks.
@ProinspectsolutionsАй бұрын
I totally understand your concerns about PEX in a desert environment. It's important to consider the durability of materials in harsh climates!

You make a great point! Every plumbing material comes with its own set of pros and cons, and it's important to weigh them based on local conditions. Hard water can definitely be a challenge for copper pipes!

Some of the problems I have seen in other videos about are people not installing the fittings right and doing in cold weather will cause a lot of problems with it you're the man I think his name is Joe Ludlow a repiping specialist he has said it is failing because it is reacting with the chlorine and different chemicals in the water he has a whole channel about it and he seems like he knows what he's talking about he shows you the bad pipes I mean you can think or believe whatever you want and this is still a fairly new product so it hasn't been around long enough to know

It obviously isn't Clickbait.... There have been multiple lawsuits against Uponor and other companies related to PEX plumbing products, including: George v. Uponor, Inc. A class action lawsuit alleging that Uponor's brass PEX fittings were defective and caused water leaks and economic losses. NIBCO PEX Plumbing Product Class Action Lawsuit A class action lawsuit alleging that NIBCO's PEX tubing, fittings, and clamps were prone to failure and caused water damage. The settlement was $43.5 million and provided relief for past and future failures. Uponor settled a class action in 2018 for $18 million over the use of a zinc-heavy form of brass in its Wirsbo PEX plumbing. Uponor also settled the class action lawsuit earlier this year, so there was obviously an issue there.

I'll take sweated copper pipe and maybe a few pinhole leaks over 50 years than dealing with burst plastic pipe any day.
@seanm3226Ай бұрын
Actually this “plastic” pipe will expand in the event of frozen pipes. Copper won’t.
@ryanhealey239Ай бұрын
You only need to worry about freezing if it's installed wrong. Qualified installers won't run a water supply where it would freeze. New isn't necessarily better.
@RenoGerryАй бұрын
@@ryanhealey239 You can still run copper to an outside hose bibb but you need to install an interior shutoff. Close the inside then open the outside shutoff during freezing weather. Never had a broken copper pipe.
@redbaron6805Ай бұрын
@@ryanhealey239 No, freezing pipes are a huge issue in all areas, as hose bibs and other areas are exposed to freezing weather, and a home that isn't insulated correctly can have pipes freeze.
@redbaron6805Ай бұрын
@@RenoGerry I have had to replace thousands of dollars worth of copper pipes, with slap leaks that where massively expensive and difficult to bypass, and my house is barely 30 years old. And I'm not the only one, it is a plague in my entire area. There isn't a one size fits all for plumbing. It all depends on the water type, environmental factors and how it was installed. With PEX, you can often have manifolds that can shut off individual pipes to every faucet and appliance. That is rarely ever done with copper, having to turn off the main water valve or nothing.
