Is Your Pop Up Camper PROTECTED? | How to SAFELY Hook Up Your Pop Up | Water, Electric, & Gray Water

This video details how to safely hook up your pop up camper to your campsite’s water and electrical. Additionally, this video details how we drain our gray water from our pop up camper. Specifically, for water, we utilize a combination of a pressure reducer valve, a water filter, a drinking water safe hose as well as a flexible hose connector to hook up our pop up camper’s city water inlet to the campsite’s water supply. For electrical, we employ the use of a smart 30 Amp surge protector to ensure that the campsite’s electrical is operating normally in addition to ensuring that our pop up camper is protected from surges, brownouts, and blackouts. For gray water, we utilize an adapter, which allows us to connect a one foot long piece of garden hose to our sink drain. We allow the gray water to then drain into a 7-gallon water container.

Just something I do that probably doesn’t make much of a difference but I typically attach the water filter on the camper side. Thought being is it will also filter out any contamination that could be in the hose. The hoses don’t always dry totally inside and could grow mold and such. Again probably not a huge difference but just a suggestion for anybody for whatever it’s worth. Love the videos. Keep them coming.

Yeah, I thought about that exact same thing. One thing I didn’t mention is that we have an additional filter on the inside of the camper that is in-line on the cold water line running to the sink. I’m guessing the majority of pop up campers don’t have this filter so I skipped mentioning it. However, I’m guessing the additional filter inside would catch anything the exterior filter didn’t. Additionally, I wasn’t too keen on the additional weight hanging directly off the city water inlet. However, as you said, it probably doesn’t make much difference either way and everyone will have their own preference.

We began using a surge protector after seeing what can happen to your rig when not using one. Not cool. We use a Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X protector. Gives you that Peace of mind, and worry free hookup. Using a pressure regulater is a must, in the water system. We have taken water filtration a step further. We use a duel canister filter system, along with the inline filter. Makes better coffee, and tea in our minds at least. We carry the system in a 5 gallon bucket, easy to store and transport. A tip for you that I found the hard way. Attach the 6 in flex hose between the pressure regulator and the filter. One snag of the hose and you can crack the filter and the brass 90 is worth the price.

I don’t have any kind of an electrical plug that comes out of the trailer on a court it’s just something you would plug into that’s in the trailer itself on the outside of it… Do they all pull out or and or there’s some that are just like a plug on the trailer

We use water and electric protections for our popup. I've been surprised to see my Dad in the 30+ years theyve been RVing they don't use any protection systems. I'm surprised they haven't had any issues that I know of.

In your experiences do you have a solution for leaks of the front storage compartment on a 2008 Jayco high wall pop up. It has the angled front storage compartment. More angled than your camper. Mine is probably at a 30 deg angle off of vertical. I have put a new rounded seal under the lid and it still wants to leak in heavy rains when not in use. Thanks in advance. Check the screw holes and the areas where the plastic of the front box meets the aluminum side wall of the actual box of the pop up. Those areas may need to be re-sealed.

@@ItsPoppin I will check that out again. I resealed the whole exterior a year or so ago and it still leaked after. I'm really thinking it is the storage door where it is laminated together or the seal bunching up at the tighter upper corner radii. I'm not trusting enough to have someone lock me in it and squirt water on it while I look for leaks. I rebuilt the whole floor in the storage area when I first bought the camper 5 years ago.

How does an electric lift for the roof get its power? From the battery or shore power? I haven't seen any videos that can explain that.

Yes, it should. This is largely dependent upon your model of converter and the condition of your battery, that is to say, as long as the battery isn’t so badly depleted that it cannot be recharged.

I like your ideas but the prices here in Canada are crazy.. Over 150 dollars for the surge protector and 25 dollars just for the 1.5 inch to garden hose adapter.. crazy huh. Even the pressure reducer is 20 dollars here. But again great video

Yeah, it’s pretty low to the ground. I’ve seen that they do make a lift kit for this model with the lift raising the pop up about 2 5/8”.
