I have an idea for a new title…. Legend of Zelda: The Beacon of Hope The game would have a dark western cowboy theme like twilight princess but have the vast open layout like breath of the wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The land will be scattered with different ranches, animals, characters, etc… Basically, instead of scattered shrines you will have huge ranches, farms, and villages scattered throughout the land that will be apart of the main story but also used for side quests and item fetching for certain goods that you will need throughout the game. Link is considered an average worker until the story and game progresses and by the end of the game he becomes a real cowboy that saves the land from outside intruders. Dungeons will take place outside of the mainland and into certain areas like forests, mountains, swamps, lakes, caves, etc… Lastly, it will have a dark western theme. Like a combo of Zelda and Red Dead put together!!!! First M rated Zelda game that uses pistols, shotguns, fist fights, blood, gore, profanity, nudity, etc… and new enemies would include alligators and snakes in the deep swamps and giant polar bears in the high snowy mountains. Opening cutscene will have Link getting his ass beat in a fist fight by the toughest rancher and he has to go back to work the next day with a black eye. In the middle of the game Link will have a rematch which will establish him as head rancher and that moment will be the equivalent to him growing up in Ocarina of Time by pulling the master sword. I know this might sound kinda stupid but these were just some thoughts I had LOL but let me know what y’all think??? ⚔️ 🤠

I love this game. The challenge, the grinding, the exploration, this is a strange, beautiful, mess of a game

2:58 Yea, that's how it reads. I think what he's trying to convey is that AFTER getting the candle in Parapa Palace, you want to THEN go west. The manual does have a graphic that labels the different regions of the map, and Parapa desert is in there, so they must have thought that was enough information to go on.

Zelda II is a very good game. I think the early difficulty curve is probably its biggest flaw, but it's not even that bad tbh. I played this one blind and had no trouble figuring out where to go or what to do. I honestly like this one better some of the newer entries.

18:07 No you aren't, you're the hero of Hyrule. Only OoT-Link is the hero of time. It's nice to hear some positives about this game for once, even though personally, I can't stand it. Even with Switch Online's save states, I can't find much enjoyment in its difficult gameplay, so I haven't even come close to beating it. The comparison to Shovel Knight is interesting, because I love that game to bits, but I simply can't wrap my head around Zelda II. I'm really looking forward to Link's Awakening, because it's so massively beloved and I personally never got why. I might not hate that game, but I'm just kind of lukewarm on it.

I've always tapped out at the second temple when I've played this game, but I genuinely appreciate how different it was while still being 100% Zelda. Watching videos like this make me want to give it another chance, so I'll probably do that later.

It's hard, but like, most NES era games are hard..if not harder and more punishing than Zelda II. Anyway, love this game. I like it even more than the first. Wish they would remake it.

Thank you for talking about Dark Souls II in relation to this game. It's by far my favorite Souls game and Zelda II really did have such a similar impact on the community and franchise.

Even though Zelda 2 is regarded as the black sheep of the series nowadays, it was actually incredibly influential in its day. For a while, rpg-inflected metroidvania-adjacent games were the dominant strain of platformers in the 8-bit era, and most of them were inspired by Zelda 2. Games like Simon's Quest, Faxanadu, Ys III, and Wonder Boy III all bear a heavy debt of influence to Zelda 2. I'd argue that within its generation Zelda 2 was the most influential metroidvania.

Have you considered titling the video “is Zelda II the best Zelda game” instead of “is this the best Zelda game”? Because to me, as someone who just discovered this channel today and really enjoys the content, the current title feels a bit too vague to me to feel like it really catches my interest, despite the actual video content being very well done

Title question: No. Zelda 3 is. Zelda 2 is an amazing game and tragically underrated but far from the best of the series. ...which if I had listened to the intro before posting, I would have known is your thesis. :D To apologize for my impetuousness, I'll offer some fun trivia: Error and Bagu are brothers. Bagu's name is a transliteration of how Japanese pronounce the English word Bug (as in a software mistake). They were meant to be Error and Bug. But ended up just being confusing.

Speaking as someone who didn't really enjoy any other Zelda games until Tears of the Kingdom (they just weren't my cup of tea for various reasons), Zelda II was the one exception, a take that never ceases to confuse people. The idea of combining top-down overworld exploration with more action-focused sidescrolling sequences is something that I absolutely adore, and I really hope to see more indie games take on that kind of gameplay style in the future. ...There's a few that already *have* that I REALLY need to get around to trying, actually.

my main gripe with zelda 2 is the heart and spirit of zelda, the challenging riddles and dungeon design are not present in this when the link to the past does, and the difficult gameplay make Zelda 2 simply too horrible for me, and my primary complaint with it is the very bizarre way link controls in it.
