While some fans of the series don't like this game because of how linear it is, I had a really good time with this game and it was also my introduction to the series so the linear nature actually eased me into what a Zelda game would be like just without the whole massive open world.

But wasn't the first zelda an open world game? You could technically do the dungeons in any order you liked. Zelda 2 was also "open world" to an extent, oot, mm, ww, tp are all basically open world as well. A link to the past. Lots of zelda games are open world. Edit: My point is just that there was a precedent that the games are generally "open world", it would be an understandable complaint even if the game wasn't advertised as open world it would make sense that people would assume it would be. No one wants to buy a need for speed (or insert your preferred racing game) only to find out that they shifted gears towards visual novels, a game where you make decisions that ultimately decide how the racing goes without your involvement. Sorry for the long winded edit, the internet isn't very understanding most times.

You're comment just made it click with Me why I love Skyward Sword so much but felt BOTW didn't resonate with Me as strongly. Dungeons have always been the most addicting part of Zelda games for me and is something I can't enjoy a Zelda game without it being a strong point. One of BOTW's biggest criticism is that the Dungeon aspects of the game were a weakpoint while the rest is highly praised. GTA is also highly praised but is a style of gameplay I could never get behind personally. I've always found both BOTW and GTA to be comparable in their nonsensical "Do what you want" approach to gameplay, that and their universal praise despite not being interested in those type of games myself So BOTW is by no means a bad game but was just the wrong game at the wrong time, especially since at the time I was hardcore craving for that traditional dungeon experience when I first played it (still craving to this day... 😢)
@nanowasabi44213 жыл бұрын
@@TheGameCreator13 I actually loved BotW, but otherwise I get what you’re saying. The world is just such a joy to explore. However, the “do what you want” aspect was, I think, overplayed. I would have enjoyed the game even more if there had been some areas locked behind the waterfall climb or Revali’s Gale. Having an open world doesn’t mean you have to be able to do anything any time you want to. And the shrines in general were probably my least favorite part of the game. Some of the single room puzzles were good, but without being part of a larger dungeon structure it loses a lot of its appeal as Zelda and becomes more akin to Portal and Professor Layton (which I love to death, but they aren’t Zelda). So if there’s anything I’m hoping for from BotW 2, it’s that they keep the feel of the overworld but replace the shrines with either a fully fleshed out set of 8 dungeons or some kind of interconnected dungeon like the Temple of the Ocean King. Maybe the sky islands will be a little like that?
@TheGameCreator133 жыл бұрын
@@nanowasabi4421 For real the micro dungeons feel a lot less like Zelda by foregoing an overarching theme with its Puzzles, that and all 120+ shrines use the exact same aesthetic. My idea for a cheap solution is to have the stone that the micro dungeon is made out of tint a slightly different shade based on the location You're at. Shrines in the volcano area instead of a pale yellow-mustard color for the stone could have a deep brown reflecting the surrounding biome, While ones around Garudo Mountains could have a reddish-pink, Jungle could be grayish-brown or even grayish-green, The Zora region could have a pale blue like the mountains surrounding Zora's domain, Etc. something as small as that could've alleviated the repetitive feeling aesthetic to some degree (Shrines in the Zora region using a pale blue stone color tho 👀👌) But yeah BOTW2 having more traditional dungeons and leaning away from its experimental world design? I hope so. So many years between Zelda games man. I don't want it to take 10 years just to get that classic dungeon experience :P

Yes, if you were pointing in the general direction of the sensor bar (like playing most of the Wii games) it would recalibrate. This is specially noticiable with the Sword controls. When you take out an item it would set the neutral to the position the player was holding the controller when the item button was tapped, then if the player held the remote with Sensor bar in the field of view there would be no drfting.

Man...I still don't understand why people enjoy the open world nature of BotW so much. People keep telling me how it's such a great experience, but all I remember is tons of boring climbing, tedious rainfall/thunderstorms, and lots of open space with nothing but land in it. Maybe an enemy camp here or there that the game's mechanics teach me to avoid fighting in the first place. Is it pretty? Sure. But that gets old pretty quick imo. If you ask me, a Zelda game needs a more linear structure to keep things interesting. I'd rather play a 20-hour experience that interesting the entire way through than spend 200 hours in a game I remember being bored in as I was just moving around with not much happening. An open world game was a fun experience once as a breath of fresh air. And personally, I can't wait to get my hands on a game with that classic Zelda formula again~ (And yes, I'm well aware that the original Zelda was open world as well. But I'd also just like to say that that game is bad by today's standards. Amazing for its time, but it's impossible to go back to now unless you already have all the little bombable/burnable locations memorized)

What I found frustrating about Breath Of The Wild is how everything happened already and us the player was forced to view memories areas to recall what happened via cutscenes. If they had more encounters with villagers and characters that were important, I would've felt more involved. One moment stick with me and that when I activated this tower by the Zora's and a Zora talked to Link and we did stuff together; I needed more of that. Another small complaint.. why did they use the SAME MUSIC for all the shrines? That got annoying fast and the lack of traditional dungeons still pains me. It's not a bad game however as much hours that I sunk into it.. I wanted it to be better and when I got the best ending I still felt empty inside. It wasn't as grand as I had wanted it to be. I'll still buy the sequel however I hope Nintendo recognizes some flaws from the orginal and makes the 2nd one better.

Yeah the difficulty scaling in BotW is a huge issue. Doesn't really get difficult at all after getting a couple of divine beasts done, and half of the runes are pretty useless as the game hardly incentivizes you to use them. SS dungeon items are brilliantly incorporated and they allow you to think outside the box when solving puzzles with the items you thought were obsolete after getting it in the previous dungeon

I constantly had to re-enter the gyro on my Wii, so that's old news to me. I've never understood why people complain about gyro drift when there's a dedicated button to centering it, you can center as many times as you need, and it's as quick as a snap.
@kryzethx3 жыл бұрын
Having a temporary solution to a permanent problem doesn't make the problem not exist, nor does it make it any less of a problem. I remember having to recenter the gyro back on the Wii version, and that was a huge reason I've never wanted to come back to this game. It also sounds like they made some parts worse, by not having the cursor centered when you use an aiming item (like hookshot, arrows, or the flying beetle), as they showed during the video. Luckily, they've fixed it by adding button controls, which seem like they will only improve the experience, compared to inaccurate gyro.

Most Wii games have you pointing at the screen, which usually auto-calibrates it, thanks to the sensor bar. If there's a game that's not doing that, I'm pretty sure the drift is actually worse than the Switch.
@bctalicorn8093 жыл бұрын
@@kryzethx I just want to make it clear that I'm not saying gyro drift isn't a prominent thing, it exists and it happens more than it should. I know you didnt say I said that, just wanted to throw that out there. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me much because I've gotten so used to re-centering it that I don't even have to think about it. So it may just be a necessary evil to some at this point. Plus it allows me to shift into a more comfortable position or play in a different range from the TV, so I'll gladly take the trade-off. But I know I'm not everyone, so it may bug others more than it does me. I'm just so thankful we've moved on from systems like Wii Sports Resort, which actually had an annoying pace-breaking system for centering the gyro where you have to use the sensor bar to point to the middle of the screen and press A before you played a round of anything. Skyward Sword only had you do this at the start of the game, and you could center it by pressing down on the menus, or aiming, which is still pretty cumbersome, but much better (I had the same issue with aiming the bow and arrow, beetle, and slingshot, etc. that was mentioned every time I used them in the original, so that's what I was referring to earlier). Now almost every game you play that has a considerable amount of gyro has had the gyro calibration mapped to a button, which is an incredibly convenient fix imo. Not sure if the technology will ever get to the point where it's 100% accurate 100% of the time, but I think what we have now is more than good enough.

@@jasonblack2477 What? How? Skyward Sword has some of the best dungeons in the series. They are easily some of the most unique. Even the worse dungeons in the game are unique and inspired. They all utilize unique items that you actually use later in the game unlike TP. Even the ones that aren’t as great hold up really well. Twilight Princess has some great late game dungeons but the first three are kinda blank and uninspired. Plus City In The Sky slogs on for awhile and can be slow. Wind Waker on the other hand has very few dungeons the majority just being okay. With really only two being great standout dungeons, those being the Earth and Wind temples. Each dungeon in Skyward sword has a unique aesthetic, design, origin and gimmick that others really don’t. Ancient Cistern and the Sandship are the big shoutouts. Wind Waker and Twilight Princesses forest dungeons and fire dungeons are very similar to not only each other but also to Oot. Skyward Sword in the other hand has only one dungeon being the earth temple that could be compared to other dungeons. The best of Wind Waker can’t really hold up to the best of TP and Skyward Sword. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword’s best dungeons are comparable in quality but the overall experience of dungeons in Skyward Sword is better due to the more unique design of the dungeons and better and more inspired dungeons.

I think anyone that’s played this game multiple times understands that sticking through the initially inconsistent feeling motion controls, to the point of mastery that you start taking pleasure in getting certain puzzles down first time because you feel like you develop a sort of skill. You start to develop ways to get through combat in the shortest amount of sword swipes/time or getting through a puzzle in the least amount of beetle launches/bombs/arrows etc. In a lot of ways it’s a rhythm game. The musical notes that play when you hit an enemy are really satisfying in rapid procession as feedback to make you want to repeat play through because you’re always thinking, “I could have done that a little better.” The game only gets better the more you play it because it takes so long to master the (admittedly janky but undeniably creative control scheme). The game ultimately rewards those that stick through the controls with a truly unique experience. There’s really no other game like it and there may never be another (in good and bad ways)

So like shown in the video with the cursor being all the way to the right, pulling out the item would bring it half way to the center of the screen. Where as if You were 30% away from the center it would change it to being only 15%. Quick question about the HD graphics. Is it just me, or is there some serious graphical degradation in the background when you go to the item select / quest status screen? It seems, at least to me, that everything in the background becomes extremely grainy. I did not notice until tonight’s play though which freaked me out. Maybe it was always there and I just started noticing it tonight but it makes the game look noticeably less polished when managing / checking out my gear. I thought something was wrong with my game so I reset my Switch and it is still there in the background on the quest status screen when I reboot. Maybe when Nintendo turned off the blurring effect on the overworld the made everything look like watercolors it had an extremely negative effect on the pause / quest status screens. Would greatly appreciate if anyone could confirm so I know it’s not just me.

This video is absolutely littered with inaccuracies. -Textures have been touched up - slightly. Probably not by a person, but computer algorithms have cleaned them up. - The painterly effect on distant scenery is still present and accounted for, it is just more subtle now due to the increased resolution.
@GameXplain3 жыл бұрын
If it's subtle to the point of being imperceptible without comparisons and zooms, it's effectively been removed. As for textures, my point was that they hadn't been redesigned like in Twilight Princess HD. I could probably have been clearer with my words.

Did not realize this was now 1080p. I knew it would be 60fps but that is great news. It should look amazing on the new Switch OLED! I'd love for them to also port over TP and WW at 1080p/60.

@@danielj8085 I mean it may work fine at some points but without a sensor bar and the lack of a magnetometer means the gyroscope with start to drift over time. So galaxy and SS are just not gonna control as well as the Wii. Good thing galaxy is not as motion heavy as skyward sword.
@MLennholm3 жыл бұрын
The IR sensor was *only* used to calibrate where Link points the sword while just holding it, it was purely visual and had nothing to do with actually swinging the sword. I don't know why they would change the way the pointer works but the IR sensor was not involved in the pointer control to begin with.

@@Aquapanther154 I never had an issue with her appearing but people are fickle, they hate being interrupted. In general I loved Skyward Sword alot, especially for it's lore and all the easter eggs/connections to other games.

No one has forgotten, "Hey! Listen!" But with Navi, you could ignore her... so long as you didn't have to go into first-person view. The problem with Fi was constant _mandatory_ interruptions.
