So this may sound nuts given the fact Isaac is...literally a robot...but the fact they made it a point for Isaac and Claire to talk about how Claire never found the right man to raise kids with....then had Isaac slip into a father figure role and bond with Marcus and Ty...then had that endearing moment at the end of the episode leads to me believe some sort of relationship is going to form. The actor that plays Isaac has said that Isaac is going to slowly start sounding more human as the series progresses so I'm guessing he will start to behave more human in general and maybe even start to have something akin to emotional attachments. I know he is artificial and doesnt actually have emotions in the same way others do but even if they dont have a relationship that is physically intimate I get the feeling this episode is one big hint to something.

I think, in a more serious show, we'd see that "ship kids" traveling along into exploratory and military missions with their parents, would not behave like these boys. If "Ship Kids" met "Planetary kids", the planetary kids would think the ship kids were weird, stiff, goody-two-shoes squares, probably. And the Ship Kids would find dirtsiders to be very random, unorganized, irresponsible, and selfish, among other things Living in the closed society of a starship, especially one that goes into military conflicts and exploratory missions into the unknown, from time to time, and so forth, "Ship Kids" would be more like Wesley Crusher and less like Beavis and Butthead. It's a survival issue: the crew would not tolerate bad and disruptive behavior, and the crew would enforce a culture of everyone following chain of command, keeping order, sharing and helping each other, for mutual survival. Sure, little kids start out dumb and have to acquire cultural norms, but by the time they are in early teens, they'd have assimilated a lot of these cultural behaviors already. Imagine your typical army brat, in a military boarding school in a kibbutz, in a disputed territory under constant attack. Would they really fight over a video game and play the "he's touching me/no I'm not" game, over and over? Or would they be so "over" that, and more adult-like overall, at the same age? If they exprienced a problem in their shuttle, would they continue to be jerks, or instantly jump back into their seats and strap-in, without needing to be told? I'm not saying they would be saints. But the KINDS of misbehaviors and trouble they'd get into, would have a very distinct character, different from dirtsider kids. And there's story potential in that.

It is not easy raising children single hand especially when working full time with no nannies or support from father s or relatives. I once dated a woman like Dr. Finn, and her children were just as bad behaving as these kids. After I had enough ot their bad behavior, I grabbed the both them, slammed them each in separate seats, told them to be quiet, and sit still and quietly. One of them started to backtalk me, so I backhanded her and said, you open your mouth again and give you worse. After that, she didn't want to dated me anymore, because she felt that I was too strict and hard. When I last saw her, she was at her home and I was visiting. She came into the room and saw her oldest son putting on his coat and she asked him where are you goin? To Bill's place. She said, he's 5 years older than you. You cannot go. She went to her bedroom, to change her clothes. After she went into bedroom, he put on his coat and left. When she returned, she asked where her son was. I said, after you went to your room, he put on his coat and left. She started to shout I'm going to, and I interrupted, you aren't going to do anything, you never do, that's why he and your other kids, never obey, or respect you. They have no fear of punishment, since you never spanked them. It's going to get worse when they all get older. I never saw her again after that. What a mess of a family.

@deezynar7 жыл бұрын
Giving orders without consequences trains them to ignore her. She should have established an element of deathly fear in them many years earlier. It is very hard to fix the problem at this point. Not impossible, but it will take a massive shift in her belief system, and that is will be harder than changing the children.
@SwobyJ7 жыл бұрын
Usually deathly fear isn't even necessary. Just consequences. Any consequences.
@menthy7 жыл бұрын
Eventually this strategy fails. In the end, using a fear-based system of discipline will only teach children to not get caught and also to behave a certain way in order to avoid punishment, not because that behavior is the right way to behave. I knew a kid like this growing up. Had super strict parents that put "deathly fear" in him who punished him quite often. It backfired. He just got worse. Learned how to cheat and lie better. And he rarely did the right thing because he wanted to do the right thing. He was just trying to avoid punishments, and he learned how to flatter and kiss ass to those people in his life who could hurt him the most. His whole value system was centered around fear, pain, and avoidance of pain. He learned all the wrong lessons. He's in his 30s now, divorced, unemployed and a drug addict. I believe he's been arrested at least once. He pretty much became a waste of a human life because he was raised with the "element of deathly fear" that you suggest. Yes, consequences matter, but "deathly fear," not so much.
@deezynar7 жыл бұрын
Wow, an entire philosophy of child rearing based on observing one person. The scientific community is waiting for your paper to be published. Thousands of generations of humans were raised with fear, I suppose all of them turned out to be horrible. I've known plenty of kids just like the ones in the video. Their parents let them get away with all sorts of stuff. They turned out like the one you describe. A cousin of mine was murdered by a rival drug dealer. His mommy and daddy nevver told him "no" and stuck to it. Fear is a good thing.

Personally I thought it was the weakest of the newer episodes as the generic survival situation demonstrating someone's character. Sometimes less entertaining character development storylines that payoff later are necessary. For what it was, it was extremely well done and I have no complaints based on the season so far.

Most black moms are single today. Lets portray black moms as single in the future. *sigh* They could have given a dead husband story, but I guess that they got to give it a present day spin. This is one aspect of the show that I am having trouble with. Lamar gets his episode and basically it portrays him as an incorrigible clown. Claire gets an episode and, although a better character study than Lamar, she is a single mom by choice. It is like MacFarlane is throwing in the most annoying and dysfunctional stereotypes of the black community that he can dig up. What's next? They mimic that horrid TNG episode and have men in an African tribe culture fight over Kelly? Or a planet colonized by blacks in a culture modeled after late twentieth/ early twenty first century American gangsta' rap culture?
@Rathkryn7 жыл бұрын
In 1940s horror movies the black guy would always survive because the monster would jump out, his eyes would get wide and then he'd say _"Feets don't fail me now!"_ So the black guy surviving in a horror movie was racist. Fast forward a few decades and now it's racist because the black guys always die in horror movies. Now you think it's racist to show a *doctor* and *officer* of a starship being a single mother. Even though it's well established that women of all races these days get discouraged with finding a man after they concentrate on their career and go with the "back-up plan" of artificial insemination. I sincerely hope that one day you'll get past looking at people's skin color and framing everything you see and hear around it.
@PunditKING7 жыл бұрын
You do know it's only racist because it was only one black guy represented that way in a movie. Could you imagine if all white dudes where plaid as sexiest or weak. lol thats if they would ever do that, with there ever being one white guy alone in a movie plaid like that . Mind you I was shocked when that one black guy survived in that shark movie Morgan Freeman was in. Well that would be too black males in a horror very rare. Thats why GET OUT was so good and a much better horror movie, ppl are tired of cookie cutter movies.
@johnow77 жыл бұрын
I remember watching Santa Fe Trail. It was made in 1940 and blacks in it were central to the narrative, but were played as one dimensional characters with no lines. When They were in danger from white racists, they showed fear by opening their eyes really wide.
