Word!!! I was 12 when this hit the stage. dayuummm. awesome. YOU can thank Jimi Hendrix for that wha-wha-chucka-chucka..trheres where the guitarist on this song got that 'vibe' !! Play on Jimi...Shaft is a Bad Mutha.... and still is.. Like James Bond, Sean Connery there will ONLY ever ever be one shaft and that is Mr.Richard Round Tree. samuel Hell Jackson couldn't hold a damn, acting candle to him. Apparently the teachers that were supposed to be vetting the film for 'inappropriate' content had a few beers, fell asleep and didn't see much of the film. The kids loved watching Richard Rowntree blasting his way through 1970s New York, even if (or especially because) they were quite a bit below the legal age for seeing the film!

@@muffs55mercury61 I don't remember that time as I was just a toddler in the pushchair then. The music was played on 4 Tel on View years later, when I first heard it. 4 Tel is the equivalent of BBC Ceefax, by the way.

At age 60 and being an offspring of father that majored in music at an HBCU ( North Carolina Agricultural & Technical University)AggiePride. My father was the Band Director of a predominantly white school( Wake Forest Sr. Highschool in Wake Forest N.C . That being said he arranged this for the band who was about 100 members including flag girls and majorettes They put on a show at a Friday night football game playing the theme from shaft in 1972. I was only 10 at the time but I'll never forget that performance and the musicianship. Thank you Issac Hayes for the original composition and thanks to my father Robert Winston for transitioning into the Director that you became!

I HAVE A STORY ABOUT THIS, WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD 3 DAYS BEFORE MY 13TH BIRTHDAY I WAS BEATEN INTO A COMA, THE MOVIE WAS PREMIERING ON T.V. ON THE EVENING OF JAN. 19, 1974. I WANTED TO WATCH THAT MOVIE. I WOKE FROM THE COMA WHEN I HEARD THE THEME SONG... POWER OF MUSIC. I FORGET WHICH HOSPITAL I WAS IN EITHER WALTHER MEMORIAL OR AMERICAN NORWEGIAN . I LOOKED UP THE GUY IN THE BED NEXT TO ME STARTED YELLING FOR THE NURSE HE'S AWAKE , HE'S AWAKE. I ROLLED OVER AND PASSED OUT AGAIN. WOKE THE NEXT DAY IF I REMEMBER THE GUY'S NAME WAS LARRY , HE WAS IN BECAUSE HIS LEGS WERE CRUSHED BY A LOAD OF STEEL. NICE GUY, ALWAYS WANTED TO TELL HIM THANK YOU , MADE THE HOSPITAL STAY BEARABLE, MADE ME CRACK UP A FEW TIMES.OH I FINALLY DID GET TO SEE THE MOVIE RENTED IT LAST YEAR.
