Isaac makes a great point to one of the messiest men on the planet Andy Cohen. Cohen does an amazing job of keeping up controversy. Yet I do agree with Isaac's assessment of Talley. Andre has done a great job of tearing down glass ceilings and entering into a fashion industry that has never fully accepted Black Americans, and especially someone with Andre's body structure. However Andre has never moved one foot to open doors for other Black Americans like himself. Andre is a icon and admire his contributions in the fashion industry. The hypocrisy of Talley is having the nerve to call out Wintatour on her behavior, but seemed to have no problem with it until he became a recipient of it. I hope the best for Andre and enjoyed his documentary "Gospel according to Andre". Yet I am not going to buy a book listening to Andre play the victim because Andre is no victim. Actually Andre was the "taskmaster" for the fashion industry's agenda regarding Black Americans, and that is the real Andre Leon Talley.

Isaac makes a great assessment of people in fashion. Andre unfortunately didn't make branding deals that would give him stable income for his later years. Therefore he hung around too long and lost relevance with the modern fashion crowd -- those relationships tire and become all of the past. This of course has nothing to do with his fabulous legacy, he just wasn't afforded the opportunity to leave the party because he still needed to make a living.

You can adore someone and be annoyed at them and disappointed. A lot of those business relationships are alliances more than deep friendships, alliances that could potentially be rekindled even years after they've fizzled. I think that's what Mr Mizrahi was saying in his own way. But I do think he makes a good point about André Leon Talley's viewpoint. I've read his Chiffon Trenches book and he does bang on quite bitterly about being dumped by Karl Lagerfeld who he considered a personal friend. He doesn't have the same bitterness for Anna Wintour who after all was his boss for nearly 30 years.

Wonderful insight by Isaac conderning the nature of the mind of a fashion-oriented individual: namely being attracted to the brilliance of the moment, observing it, then moving on to the next brilliance. It is sad that individuals that once meant so much in a person's life get left behind. I think it falls into the, "I remember you WHEN," category, as in before you became a force in the industry. Possibly the reality of ones roots is too heavy an emotional burden to carry into the present. On the other hand, what I've seen from Talley's heart-to-hearts, he is perfectly candid about his roots so, t'is a puzzlement. I guess some folks treasure their past acquaintances while others opt to leave them in the dust. Oh the complexities of the human mind.

I believe him. From the documentary I saw Andre seemed very lonely and sad (right alongside being worldly and sophisticated). He had a lot of untherapized trauma from growing up in Jim Crow. I noticed right away how there was no mention of a lover. Not necessarily a current one, but someone -anyone- who was with him in the past. There was no one. I’m sure many someones tried to love him and he repeatedly pushed them away or never let them get close in the first place, thus his lamenting as to why he doesn’t have a lover in the documentary. Most people at his age have a lover because they cultivated something with someone many many many years ago. He did not cultivate that part of his life.
