It’s weird how all night the flags barely moved. On field there must’ve been some crazy whirlwinds going on
@WhiteG602 ай бұрын
What's even weirder is there's no openings in the corners of the stadium like at some others. It's a complete bowl shape. Look at Lincoln Financial Field and you see how the corners are open and could cause some serious cross winds at elevations that you can't otherwise feel on the field level. But MetLife is completely surrounded. Just so strange. There was also the remnants of the hurricane hitting up the east coast this weekend, too. I drove from Boston to Philly on Monday and it was miserable in the AM, but nice, warm and sunny... but also windy once I got into NY.
@AndrewLeonard462 ай бұрын
@@WhiteG60 right, I think it’d be cool af to see a show or maybe a channel cover the science on this. Something that isn’t talked about enough is the wind pattern caused by designs of the stadium. I could see players jerseys waving around like crazy so it must affect the field the most.
@kirbydude25232 ай бұрын

I’ve got a question. I was wondering about this during the game. If they’re aware the wind is that strong, most especially on the longer kicks where they have to kick higher, why not just adjust and aim/kick to the left or right of goal post depending on wind direction? Kicking it to where the wind guides it through the uprights? Did they just underestimate the wind?
@stevevernon19782 ай бұрын
Because all they have go on for determining the wind is those ribbons all the way up at the top of the goalpost. The swirling wind LOWER and FARTHER into the field are what is causing them to fail to adjust enough. You could make an assumption that the visiting kickers would have a harder time, but I have no idea how much IN STADIUM practice they get during the week, especially since there are two teams SHARING this stadium. If I were the special teams coach, I would get some tethered balloons with ribbons ALL up and down the tethers, put them every 5 yards from the goal line to the 40 or 50 yard line, and see what the swirls is ACTUALLY doing when the goal post ribbons are so nearly slack as we see them here.

The uprights are in a wind shadow. In front of the uprights for 70 feet there is basically a wind tunnel that channels and concentrates the wind. The stadium was designed that way so as to naturally ventilate itself on hot days. On cold days that ventilation is an utter bitch.

In soccer we learned to adjust for the wind when hitting high balls. Obviously some things can't be adjusted for like wind gusts, but we would adjust after just a couple kicks. NFL kickers should be able to adjust their aim too when it's windy. Granted I don't know the aerodynamics of a kicked soccer ball vs a football, so something there could make it harder, but all in all I would think after a kick or two they should be adjusted.
