I went to school for and have been a State Registered Journyman Carpenter since 1991. The nail spacing is correct, people are just used to "bent nail builders" slapping things together. I'm not sure about the window needing removed, but I haven't seen the framing inside, which the engineer did and obviously saw something structurally that lead to feel it needed close and sheethed to add structural strength. Great Job Isaac, dont listen to the "I watched a structure be built on YT and am now a Carpenter" - In one out the other . Congratulations on completing all that, it was a lot and you accomplished it, now moving onto what you love to do! Merry Christmas!
