Loved the chilled vibe of this vid, goes well with her personality. Didn't seem limit at all, psyched for future ascents! How many female v14 FA's are there? Pretty rarified group...

I don't watch bouldering videos too often but this one... has something special! Might be the storytelling, the video shots, the music! Really inspiring and nicely climbed! Keep it up!

“I mostly just try and get in all my try hard outside” This inspires me. I like to think I might be able level up without spending too many beautiful days grunting inside at the gym
@mrmonsterhunter808
@mrmonsterhunter808 2 жыл бұрын
She did mention that she spent most of her days in the gym and on a climbing team before she cracked that 8a. As much as I agree with you on climbing outside, you have to train to reach a higher level of climbing (or anything really). That's what makes a passion a passion, you have to be willing to crawl through the mud to reach the top of the hill. If you just focus on the good parts its just a hobby.

@@mrmonsterhunter808 I think in the context of the video it's more of a "if you're outside don't leave it in the tank" type mentality, of course we train indoors. But if climbing real rock is what gets your psyche up, then give it your all when you can. Mind you Training for climbing, and Testing your climbing are not the same thing, totally different kind of try hard, i feel like instgram and fitness communities have wattered down the seperation of these things into some weird mash of motivational quotes hahaha. Another take on it though which is more in line with the initial comment, Lattice training has analysed climbers and their performance for a while, and have established a significant discrepancy between climbing performance metrics and climbing grades that covaries heavily with the number of days spent climbing outdoors per week/year (roughly 1.5-2 days per week and below have better metrics and worse grades, above 3 days per week outdoors have better grades for the same metrics). Check out the podcast with Eric Horst and Tom Randall for more info, but it boils down to; If you don't get enough time outdoors just climbing, then at some point your training for climbing starts to become training to train. Your performance metrics go up but your grade doesn't, Dave MacLeod is also a loud voice in this space he said something along the lines of if you have trained for 1000 hours, you will benefit more from climbing outdoors for 1000 hours than training the same amount again. Vice versa is also true in his opinion, so pick your poison, but as Isabelle said in the video, "if you don't like clilmbing outside, you don't have to do that i guess". Just make sure you are enjoying yourself and it's all good.

I think it depends on what your goals are, like if you want to send hard stuff outside, then it makes sense to spend more time outside. From personal experience time spent outdoors has made me a better climber than time in the gym. Jimmy Webb said in a recent Q&A on instagram that he and most of the Mellow crew spend 85% of their time on rock, and only about 15% of their time in the gym. The pros are on rock like 150+ days a year, whereas most of us are indoor climbers who spend 85% of our time in the gym see indoor climbing as training for outside... but the best training for outside is actually to get on stuff outside. I recently leveled up a couple of grades and more importantly feel way better in my technique after a few weeks of exclusively climbing outdoors 2-3 days a week. I'm definitely going to prioritise getting outside when I can, over climbing at the gym from now on.

I’m confused. Is the video title correct? Because the name of the boulder is sinawav. Maybe I just don’t understand the phrase “behind the seams”. Can someone please explain this to me? 😅
@Mark198d
@Mark198d 2 жыл бұрын
Seems that "Behind the Seams" is the title of the short film by Matty Hong because the subject of the film (Isabelle Faus) is also into making clothing. "Sinawav" is the name of the boulder. It is confusing though because they put in parentheses that it is a v14 FA so it looks like that is name of the boulder.
