One of the best tangos in ice dance history. Up there with rakama/kokko (sp?)

Thanks for posting. Anyone who says this dance is not technically difficult is not paying attention. It was meticulously choreographed by the legendary Christopher Dean. Also, this is NOT an easy piece to SKATE to. I mean, just look at the nuance in the position at 4:16. Look at Paul's edge, look at Isabelle's edge, look at where he's looking, look at where she's looking. That frame could literally be a painting that tells one heck of a story. 4:19 to 4:44 ART. Why? It's the way the choreography works with the music. The way he turns her by touching her head. 4:18 to 4:22 particularly is a brilliant moment in ice dancing. 2:36 to 2:42 again, brilliant choreography. The audience is cheering as if someone just landed a triple jump. This is far and away the best tango I have ever seen on ice. And more than 30+ years later it has yet to been equaled. What so many may never get is that the magic in this tango comes from so much more than the very steps we SEE. The Duchensays have always exhibited a very finely attuned sense of culture. They are very French in this sense. Intellectually and artistically, they were light years ahead of the competition and the sport for that matter.

Thank you DMP, you are so sweet ! Yes, Dean took 2 days to give us ideas and flew back to the UK. The rest was up to Paul and myself . We had such fun putting all our inner feelings into that dance !!!! ****Wish you had been a judge !! LOL !!!

Difficult to say but one thing for sure is that turning a traditional dance on hard floor in to an ice dance was not easy, especially as they have to put their legs in awkward places in keeping with the dance. I suppose the other dancers did all kinds of moves not seen in this dance. How things have changed with the scoring and cameras & walking about.

The OSP tempo selected for 1988 was indeed "TANGO". However, this was NOT a tango. This was an APACHE dance, right down to the costuming, choreographed & skated extremely well.
@azbycx566 жыл бұрын
Apache? Interesting, that might explain why the judges held back. However, having looked at some examples of Apache dance on KZbin this seems nothing like it, and in fact strikes me as a very good depiction of a tango with quite a few authentic tango moves.
@isabelleduchesnay Жыл бұрын
Sorry to disappoint you Tom....it was definitely NOT an APACHE. TOTALY NOT !

@lillis0405 Really? Chris Dean choreographed their routines from 1988-92 is the commonly held belief. How do you know it was Martin Skotnicky? I thought he was their trainer.
