Just think about the things he's done, without using his reasons. Slaughtering armies, subjugating nations, ruling monsters and undead, creating and using bioweapons, mind control, grave robbing, Deicide. Vandalieu has done a ton of evil things. Yeah, it's usually in self-defense or to protect his people and family. But evil is still evil, even when it looks good.

The plot of it all is that he is "insane" from all of his previous expiriences and therefore you can't understand him with common logic. Well atleast that's part of the justification author provided. This series is cool at the first arc and then becomes very stale, not that it is unbearable to read, but there is little to no satisfying plot developments. Also in manga they kinda undersell the anguish of him, like the dude litterally went fullblown insane from grief yet all the manga shows is just a lvl-up of a mind corruption(which should be a nod to the fact that he is expresionless but this undersells the moment tremendously)

I'll point out that Vandalieu has always been depicated as an eye for an eye type of character. Even when he becomes undead and kills the scientists and doctors, he doesn't harm the other patients. So killing everyone would be weird. Also, his mom dies and he decides to only kill everyone involved, further cementing him as an eye for an eye character.

Some of them decide to become assassins and hunt the MC, whoever becomes an assassin, gets murdered by MC. Some of the characters learn of his past, and what happened to him in second life. Haven't read all of the novel, stopped around part 7 or something. Not sure of all of the people who got murdered, but I remember some guy who could shoot through anything. This feels like some kind of rant now.. I am not sure what the ending is, either, but I heard that it was open-ended for continuation or something..
