Both SoKor and Japan are on the view that conventional weapons are no longer sufficient to deter the CCP. 2. The Major Problem is those Areas that lead to downfall of SEATO, namely the former British and French Colonial Territories in the Southeast Asia, which is French Indochina(Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia), Burma(part of British India, predecessor of Myanmar) and British Malaya(predecessor of Malaysia). The NATO architecture works well for most of the nations in Europe because they are smaller in size. NATO receives funding directly from collective budgets and programs, which amounts to a mere 0.3% of all Allied defense expenditures. In contrast to Asia, all of the European nations are equally wealthy. The idea of a joint defense budget is completely out of the question because Asian nations are not as united as the Europeans.

Vietnam is considered a weak spot in terms of Political alignment, followed by Indonesia. Many of Japan’s WWII criminals were not brought to justice, and remained in influential positions. Japan’s far-right agenda includes: denying Japan’s wartime atrocities, revising Article 9 which forbids a standing army, supporting official visits to Yasukuni Shrine, which is honoring war criminals as heroes. The rest of Asia should be worried if Japan re-assert the use of force externally, as it already has a very powerful military and air-force. Japan is not looking out for Taiwan or other potential member states. Japan is superficial; Japan is not trying to help or protect Taiwan or potential members. Japan is merely shifting its frontlines to Taiwan and member states. Japan is using Taiwan as pawn to fight its potential adversaries, so Japan may not have to. Japan is moving the battle frontlines to members joining the so-called “Asian NATO”. It wants to spread the risks, just in case Japan wants to provoke its adversaries or if Japan wishes to respond aggressively. Although Japan may be obeying the US currently and second-in-command, but Japan is no fool. So, countries including Taiwan should not be fooled by Japan.
