And after Cell, he does really grow as a character. He befriended Majin Buu and used his public image to help in killing Kid Buu. He also paid Goku a lot of money so Goku could get back to training, while keeping Chichi happy and Goten being able to go to a good school. He's also a great grandfather for Pan.

Few answers for your questions 1) Hercule Satan is actually decently strong by human standards and did legitimately win the tournament, I would say he compares favorably to many of the OG Dragonball antagonists, but he very clearly is outmatched by literally everyone in the main roster of fighters by this point. 2) Mr. Satan does eventually figure out what is really going on but he is in denial about it up until the final battle with Buu at which point he finally accepts reality. He did have a few moments during the Buu Saga where he has internal panic bouts whenever he squares off with one of the super powered characters though. 3) That helicopter that Cell blew up was part of a one or two episode bit of filler where a couple of Mr. Satan's students/fan boys, show up and challenge Cell first with Cell blowing them away without even moving a muscle. It was pretty bad and a complete waste of time so TFS just blew them straight to HFIL instead of try to make it funny.

Pretty sure all the characters could tank a nuke. Piccolo was moon level before Vegeta and Napa arrived, so that means essentially everyone becomes at least moon if not full planetary by the time they all get wished back. And by this point in the show, pretty much all the characters are easily planetary if not near solar system level. Obviously the non-fighters don’t count like Bulma and Chi Chi (yeah she can sorta fight but she’s more on par with Mr Satan) but yeah, nukes are basically nothing to these guys unless maybe radiation poisoning.

Reminder that most characters in Dragon Ball can move really, really fast. We as the audience know they're clearly flying to their destination, but it's been established even since the early days of OG that, to the untrained eye, it looks like they're teleporting (though Goku is one of the only ones that can actually do that).

After the cell games Mr Satan knows what's up in the buu saga he's terrified and acknowledges many times that their skills are legit. Especially after he gets punched by trunks in a little tournament where the children's winner fights Mr Satan and trunks doesn't hold back. Also He's supposed to fight Android 18 but she allows him to win if he pays her a large sum of money which obviously he wouldn't do if he thought he could beat her

Can I just say it's nice to see someone else appreciate Jimmy Firecracker? I can't tell you how many people I've seen react to these episodes who just don't react at all to him. Sadge. :( 14:15 They were filler characters and TFS hated them (let's be honest: we all did), so they went to all the trouble of actually editting them out of all future scenes. You can see how they actually animated Cell killing them themselves. They were supposed to be Mr. Satan's top apprentices or something, a burly bald Russian-sounding wrestler dude, and a pretty boy with long blonde hair and a rose held in his teeth. Oh, and a female announcer with orange hair in an afro. Typical filler weirdness. It's super impressive how TFS managed to edit them out, considering how many scenes we see Mr. Satan and Jimmy Firecracker, and they were hanging out together the entire time in the actual anime.

The World Martial Arts tournaments were just ordinary tournaments held every five years until Goku changed the game by entering the 21st tournament as a child, again three years later at the 22nd tournament, and finally the 23rd tournament where he won against Piccolo. After which, Goku and his friends stopped competing in the tournaments all together, leaving the title of the strongest open again for competitors who did not possess super human strength. You should check out the "Cell VS" mini-series they did as well. 8:32 Most definitely there is. He basically gets it right here at the Cell Games where he realizes how far beyond him all of that is, but is still rolling with his gimmick. Then he has PTSD when the crew shows up at a tournament in Buu saga and they turn Super Saiyan. Comes to terms with it and Goku on Kai's planet, but for the sake of the masses, everyone agrees to pretend Mr. Satan is the actual savior of the world. 14:12 Three people. Pirozhki and Caroni were Mr. Satan prize students and Miss Piiza was Mr. Satan's agent. They're all filler charatcers to have brief goofy one-hit "fights" with Cell and then stay in the back.

Mark "Hercule" Satan actually does that for the audience. He has a very telling character arc during the Buu saga, and it shows that he is a good person at heart, even if unable to act it. He actually uses a Jetpack, meaning he does do practical effects, just more dangerous than he lets on to the audience. Basically, he's like Yamcha, if Yamcha didn't cheat on his partner with a human-level intelligence flying cat-like thing named Puar, and also was only showboating for the camera due to a lack of choice.

Mr Satan is genuinely a top tier martial artist. He can pull several busses tied to him, rip 3 phone books in half at once, and even punched a HOLE through one of those busses. He had some issues pulling his hand OUT, but that's still really impressive. Also, he DID legitimately win a tournament. He's in all likelihood the strongest human on the planet that DOESN'T use Ki. Just even the weakest human that DOES use Ki (Yamcha) is super human. So by COMPARISON he looks like a total fraud. Until the Z Fighters start hopelessly outclassing him, he was not a scam artist at all. As for that bit with the other chopper, those are 3 characters that were Mr Satan's underlings. They actually take a swing at Cell first and can't even touch him, and I mean that literally, he pushes them away with Ki. He humiliates them, then Mr Satan, then the real fights get going. Mr Satan covers for himself by claiming he cheated. Anyway, TFS hated those 3 characters so much they just decided to kill them immediately.

Cell is really nice to Yamcha specifically because from his universe, Yamcha k'd himself by hanging on a rope after he found out Bulma was having a baby with Vegeta, the dude who beat him and took everything from him. That's why the running gag with Yamcha in TFS is "HEY how's it hangin--ohh uhh.." Cell literally tries to lift Yamcha higher than Vegeta, because deep down he kind of cares for him.
