There's the mark of a craftsman. Notice how when he made the bridal joints he hammered the wood a bit so that it would fit tight and gap free after the wood rebounded. I've seen him use this method many times before, but these joints are completely hidden and will only be seen by the next person who refinishes it. Gotta love it!

These chairs are very nicely restored; how wonderful it is to see someone work without any interference, just some good canine company suffices to see through the day. It's what one should aspire when attempting to restore &/ make furniture. Will wait for next instalment. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu. Kind regards.
Lovely as always. Side note: You usually put a thin layer of cotton batting between foam and fabric. Otherwise movement from sitting will damage the foam over time and it's better for working the fabric.

Every one of those chairs needed a good scrubbing, in my opinion, before the new fabric went on. But a beautiful job as far as it could go, as always with Ishitani-san.

In my spare time I repair and refinish mid-century modern furniture for my neighbour's shop. Fixing and reupholstering chairs is one of the most rewarding but also tedious tasks. All those old nails and staples and moldy padding....... 退屈です!!!
