Deepika looks stunning. But that doesnt cover the fact that , she is majorly says all her dialogues in the same note . And as much I wanted to root for the epic lovestory i.e Bajirao-mastani , I just couldn't . Infact the scenes with kashibai and Ranveer battling and his scene with his brothers where the best parts of the movie . Even the scene were she protects her child and does sword fight is amazing , but when it comes to being the unlucky lover she plays , it just falls flat

This was one of my fav scenes. Not just bcoz of the characters, but the whole situation painted here. In our Indian culture, it has always been like the guy's side asks for the girl's hand for marriage. Women approaching men? Rare. But here, it's Mastani who is asking for Bajirao's hand. That's one of the reason I love this. Nd Deepika, I agree she was overshadowed by Priyanka's spectacular acting, but that doesn't make her worth any less. I know the history is different, what happened here never actually happened, but how I hope that something like this did happen in the past, it would be so goood

The problem is people are always trying to compare Kashibai and Mastani, Deepika with Priyanka. They do not see that Kashibai had an extremely lively, colorful, childlike and a vibrant personality whereas Mastani is enigmatic, dignified and poised. All her words are well-thought and her actions measured. She is not supposed to be showing a whole lot of emotions. Bhansali depicted Kashi crying in pain whereas you never see tears in Mastani's eyes. She stands strong even when being bounded by chains. I remember the way she practiced with her sword when she was kept with the courtesans. She too was in pain. However, since her pain did not transform into tears, some people thought that she was expressionless and robotic. I think Deepika did a wonderful job here. Look at the way she walks out of the mahal. Her very walk is dignity personified! Even Bhansali said that though he loves Ranveer and Priyanka, Deepika's performance in the film was his personal favourite. It's far more difficult to express pain without crying, happiness without smiles, insults without angry reactions and love in a world where every single soul was against her. I don't know about the critics. She has won my eternal respect for her performance in this film.

@@prithadas9937 I understand what you are saying, and you are right Mastani is supposed to be a dignified royal. But I also understand why the other side feels this way. Just consider the situation for a moment. Everyone was against Mastani. The only person who would talk with her is her husband and she is getting challenged every second day. The way the writers depicted her is uncaring or not even aware of the situation she has caused. Something I think they could have done with the situation in mind was give her a moment with her emotion. She doesn't have to be as expressive as Kashi is but if she just would have closed her eyes and taken a breath, I would have been happy. It shows that everything happening does mean something to her. But if they intentional made her uncaring towards the situation then I think she would have been really poorly written.
