@@briansummers8030 you could always tell if a Hi Perf GM car with a four speed had been on a steady diet of drag racing by the cracks . They would start at the bottom of the quarter window and run down about five inches , and were usually six inches behind the doors . Always on the passenger side , but I have seen cracks on the driver's side . Rear windows would pop loose from the glued in seal and leak . Now you know where the rusty trunk floors came from . El Caminos were notorious for popping the window loose .

@briansummers80305 ай бұрын
Yes, it is a hydraulic flat tappet . I did use Isky brand lifters and their assembly lube. I didn't have any problems at all with the break in process. Everything was done correctly before initial start up, valves were all adjusted properly, timing was set as close as possible, and the carb was filled with fuel so it would start immediately and then the rpm's were brought up to 2500 for 2 cycles of 15 minutes for the break process. I like LS engines for their good power handling capabilities and after market support but they never will sound as good as a SBC when the correct exhaust setup is on either one of them. There is a guy down the street from me with a new Camaro and it sound so bad and annoying. They sound more like a boat engine to me when stock vs the sbc. JMO Love the SS, is it a real SS? Sorry if I missed it. My favorite Chev colors the Forest Green or Marina Blue. I had several old Chev`s and loved them all. The worst engine ever mad is a 307 gutless wonder had a few of them and they sucked.

It is not a real SS car. I got a super good deal on the SS hood back in the 80's (I paid $50 for it). I agree 100% with the sound of LS v's old school small blocks. I think it is the firing order of the LS that makes it sound so different. I had a friend back in the 80's that had a screaming 307 with a big cam and 283 power pack heads and it ran really well for what it was. It really surprised me that it was a 307. Thanks for watching ! Happy New Year

Agree 100% regarding LS idle sound. This is due to a different firing order, which yields a strange chop. Best chop in my book has always been a cammed, high compression BBC. Absolute music to my ears.

Why pick a cam based on the idle sound instead of picking it for performance and letting the idle be what it ends up being?

Back in the 80's and actually even now, idle sound is/was a big thing. I had one of the bigger and nasty sounding cams for a street car that there was back then.
