Perfect sound I had a high comp. 327 in high school. Didn't know what I had, what a gem of an engine.

Great sounding engine. The 327 Chevrolet engine is Awesome . The first engine I built was a 327 , when I was 19 years old , with the help of my neighbor mechanic. The engine went into my 1968 Nova . That was 35 years ago. I'm in the process of building another 327 from a 1966 Chevelle. I'm going with either 10:1 flattops or 11:1 pistons , big cam , solid lifters and some other goodies. The 327 engine is my favorite engine.

That's one sweet sounding 327 you have there. There are so many ways to go when you modify these motors. In 1968 I too had a 57 2 door hardtop Chevy I was proud of. Original 283 four barrel was the thing that got me from stop light to stop light in those days. I found a 327 300 horse motor from a wrecked 67 Super Sport and bought it for $250. Back then I had more money than sense and decided to let the local Chevy parts manager order my factory parts for me to rebuild it. You would be amazed how cheaply this way was over aftermarket parts. I had the pistons and rods from the 302 motor....11 to 1 dome top and the wild off road type Z 28 cam that had a very rough idle. Solid lifters , factory aluminum intake and an 800 Holley. Hedman headers ran to a set of homemade exhaust pipes fashioned from old 3 1/2" wide driveshafts. I ran cutouts for the strip runs. I cut 3 seconds off my quarter mile times at the local dragstrip after making the swap from the 283. I still have that 283 in an old shed wrapped in a tarp. Bet it's worth a small fortune now since it was running fine when I took it out. No-it's not for sale guys. Back then our idea of a good time was cruising the main street of our town on Sat and Sunday evenings. My 57 won it's share of stop light races and always turned heads. Hardee's still had the Big Mac with sauce for $1.00 or you could go to McDonalds and get 6 of their thin ass cheeseburgers for the same price. You could fill a 22 gallon gas tank for about $2.25. The gas was pumped for you, your windshield cleaned and all your underhood fluids checked by a friendly attendant working for $1.50 an hour. Those were the good ol days for sure!!

I love the old school engines that being said everyone is going to the LS engine conversion. More HP and more toque. My LS1 and LS3 are just beasts. I do love these old engines and actually have a set of 202 camel hump heads and I have a 400 small block 4 bolt main engine with steal crank. I just can’t let these go because they are a piece of Chevrolet history.

Great running motor's, it's been a long time since I heard a 327 small journal engine run.
@Cougracer674 жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound any different than a large journal 327! It revs quickly and idles rough because of the super light flex plate. When it's installed in a car with the heavy torque converter bolted up (or a manual trans flywheel and pressure plate) the idle will smooth out and it won;t rev so quick.

The 327 small journal was all the rave from about 66 thru the late 90's. These motors had the right combination of bore & stroke with the 462 heads. I beat up alot of big block cars with these lil screamers. Great motor to hot rod around with. High RPM screamers. Z/28 302. & 327 Sm. JL were the funnist to drive around with. If you wanted brut strength you went with a 427 454 tire shreaders. Good video. Flashback

Got one out in the shed. Pulled it from a rusty 68 shovel. It had a factory 4-speed, no console, manual everything . Not sure if the engine has correct heads and intake. It has a square bore cast iron intake with 2.02 straight plug fuelies. Unfortunately, I had the engine rebuilt and they tossed the old cam. That may have given me a clue. It's definitely a small journal 327.

i got 3 of these one built nuts out one with just a 585 l with 312 D i like the sound of the cam but the built one has the big cam. we pulled the built one out of a 60's dragster then blue print it and bell automotive built it .traded a 71 cst blazer for the parts and labor that i got for 500 the shop said this would have cost about 25,000 to have it dun ported the 202 heads to 204 and all the ports polished the heads and motor ported all the oil drains just to get the oil to drain faster 13 quart oil pan but they told me that it would do 11,000 all day long i had it past 15000 and the motor never blew. it had 1200 hp with pump gas no nitro. raced it a lot ,still running after 20 years we had 12.5 to 1 and then shaved the heads the cam bearings were line bore with bigger cam bearings custom made roller cam so it would fit the bigger bearings hey had to do this to get the cam in it
