My journey to understand Deen directly from Quran as well as from Tafsir. How Quran clarified the doubts and questions that came into my mind regarding Islam as a complete code of life.

Dr. Taimur a correction and an opinion for you First, let me point out that Islam is a complete code of life. There are some basic principles upon which we have to rely and using these principles we have to make a system. For Example: Islam says we should refrain from interest, so we have to devise such a system in this modern world that coincides with the rule of Islam which does not include interest. So, the sentence "a complete code of life" does not mean that we do not have to read science and other subjects. It means that the Quran and Sunnah guide us in every path and that these are the basic rules so we have to abide by these rules. Based on these rules, we can devise a system according to the need of the hour. Second: The interpretation of Allama Maududi is in the context of religious guidance. It states that in every religious matter, guidance has been provided so you should follow the Quran and Hadees for guidance and seek no other sources. It is not in the context of reading sciences and other subjects. These are worldly matters and, in these matters, even the Quran says that travel throughout the land. I hope I have clearly presented my arguments.

What a dedicated and enthusiastic intellectual Dr. Taimur is. He walks the extra mile to eduacte his people. He has such a good mix of energy and humility. Sir, I would like to add a narration of prophet Muhammad pbuh on this matter from Sahih Muslim Hadith no. 6126(international numbering 2361) Musa b. Talha reported: I and Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) happened to pass by people near the date-palm trees. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What are these people doing? They said: They are grafting, i. e. they combine the male with the female (tree) and thus they yield more fruit. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: I do not find it to be of any use. The people were informed about it and they abandoned this practice. Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) (was later) on informed (that the yield had dwindled), whereupon he said: If there is any use of it, then they should do it, for it was just a personal opinion of mine, and do not go after my personal opinion; but when I say to you anything on behalf of Allah, then do accept it, for I do not attribute lie to Allah, the Exalted and Glorious. In some other narrations Prophet Muhammad pbuh said“ You know more about the worldly affairs than me ”

While i was listening to the lecture I thought exactly about this hadith, I think this clears a lot of these confusions. I think Deen is the way of life, Least amount of knowledge one needs to lead a normal life, anything else is bonus, and its not prohibited to learn these things. As long as one knows the basics, one can deduce "Masails" and other problems to lead a fuller life full of knowledge e.g. sciences, economics etc.

A logical & extremely thought provoking talk dr sb. I totally agree that God Almighty must have given basic guidelines on all important aspects of life in the Holy Quran but didn't stop the muslims to explore other knowledgeable sources too to survive, improve or excell during various facets of life and humanity. Industrialism افسوس کہ ان تینوں شعبوں اور فِکر میں ہم کہیں پہ بھی نہیں پائے جاتے۔۔۔۔ ہم وہی پتھرکے زمانے میں رہ رھے ہیں۔۔۔ یہ لوگ آج بھی زنا کرنے والے کو سنگسار کرنے کی باتیں کرتے ہیں جبکہ انہیں یہ معلوم نہیں کہ حضور پاکﷺ نے سنگسار کا اسوقت حکم اسلیے دیا تھا کیونکہ اس وقت کوئی تھانےاور جیل خانے کا کوئی نظآم موجود نہیں تھا۔۔۔۔ کہ ان گناہ کرنے والے کو کہاں اور کیسے رکھا جائے لہذا سنگسار کرنے کا کہا گیا۔۔۔ لیکن آج کا دور بہت جدید اور ترقی یافتہ ہوچُکا ہے۔۔۔ آج تو انتہائی جدید قسم کی سزائیں تجویز کی جاسکتی ہیں۔۔۔۔۔۔ لیکن یہ لوگ آج بھی سنگسار کرنے کی سزا دینے پہ ہی بضد ہیں۔۔۔۔ نہ جانے کیوں؟

Arabic is a very vast and versatile language with huge vocabulary, the word deen has been used multiple times in quran and the meaning of this word you mentioned could be one of the meaning of deen of its many meanings like frame work of governance ,way of life ,obedience etc. you can get some clarification in this regard if you look at the meaning of word deen wrt to following verses of quran 📖 (Qur'an 4:125, 5:3, 12:76, 24:2, 3:85, 37:53, 3:83). and the surah which you quoted was revealed in a response to disbelivers offer to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) when they tried to convince prophet of their system by bribing him etc.. it would be great if you can elaborate the meaning of word deen wrt to the following verses 🔰 (Qur'an 4:125, 5:3, 12:76, 24:2, 3:85, 37:53, 3:83). also thank you

The first pie chart is totally correct but unfortunately our mindset has been trained on the concept of mododi sahib , therefore we learn things unwillingly with an attitude of learning other things as undue burden. Very simple & clarified explanation is that "Ilm Ki Talab Har Musalman (Mard Aur Aurat )Par Farz Ha" ... "Ilm Hasil Karo Khawa Tman Is Ka Liya Cheen Jana Paray" Everyone of us has already heard these quotations of Prophets Muhammad SAW and other Qura'an verses where the topic of knowledge came up, there's no barrier for ilm it can be preserve from everywhere. POV: Muslims have lost Ottoman Empire due to the lack of knowledge about guns and other things if Qura'an were been for everything then there will be no need for Hadiths at all but Prophet Muhammad Taught us ( by left of hadiths ) use your own brain according to your surrounding. Don't make my beloved Prophet SAW as God ( Nauzubillah ) where qura'an already mentioned ''Al Quran :Aap Farma Jijiye Main Bhi Bashar (man) like you, you are born on my side, your God (RAB) is one (ALLAH), then whoever hopes to meet his GOD should follow you. achche kaam kare aur apne RAB ki worship mein kisi ko sharik na banaye Surah Al-Kahf (18), 110'' Observe, apply and teach as he did.

Absolutely correct.. “Deen” being a complete code of life is a new concept not grounded in the Quran. The good thing is that whatever sounds illogical is not found in the Quran when one searches for it which is another proof the divine origin. Illogical concepts come from human error in understanding the book of God. Educated people need to talk more about religion.

Taimur's propaganda "education" wins here. Quran says "enter in this deen completely" "there is no deen in sight of Allah except islam", "this is deen ul haq the deen of truth" "yusuf judged his brothers alleged crime by deen of the king of egypt (the deen of king of egypt covered all aspects of Egyptian life economics, social relations, international relations, laws etc). Taimur has narrowed down the meaning of deen only to ritualistic aspect and no one in the comments section seems to be critical of his thought pattern and his video. They act as those who are fed anything as Islam and say "subhanallah!!" over it.

Deen as a general term means law. But when God talks about his law in the Quran, it is mainly the pillars of islam, beliefs and broad ethical principles to govern many aspects of our life. However, it doesn’t answer each and every question related to human experience and a lot of it is up to us to find out for ourselves. Like Taimur said, it can’t give you the cure for cancer etc. yes, we should enter completely into islam when it comes to our beliefs and morality. When Quran says there is no Deen with Allah except islam it is talking about the divine law. It means don’t follow any other laws as basis for your morals such as Hinduism, Atheism etc. obviously some of the islamic moral principles delve into the disciplines of social sciences, political sciences, etc but that doesn’t mean it gives us a complete and comprehensive social and political system.

Asalamualikum Sir "Deen" of arabic means decision in English "Deen" of arabic means fasla in urdu "Deen" word has traveled to urdu as well but the meaning is different. "Deen" word in urdu means religion in English Since the same word was imported in urdu but the meaning was changed hence the whole confusion. I like your efforts. I am in the same boat. The word in arabic for religion is "Millah" as mentioned in 22:78 quran. Millate Ibraheem.

Why do you need an explanation from Dr sb. What does Aids , TB etc has to do with following a certain religion in a certain way? Can you form an equation where you can prove that following Islam will result in elimination of all the diseases and many other social, economic, problems in the world? And not to mention the billions of followers of many other religions claim the same thing that following their religions will resolve your problems and bring prosperity in this world. When polytheists offered that we can compromise with Islam and start practicing a syncretistic version of pluralism then this chapter was revealed. So lakum deenukum means that Islam is irreconcilable with polytheism, because One God and multiple gods cannot be true at the same time. About the section on "fazool sawalaat," please everyone do yourselves a favour and look up Sahih Muslim 2361 (Kitab al-Fadaa'yl). It's one of the most beautifully pragmatic Hadith in the canon. The wedge that is generated between 'earthly' and 'divine' aspects is extremely fruitful. On basic principles, I'd say it's important what one deems to be a 'basic principle.' The term cannot be applied to platitudes, but rather concrete fundamentals. In the example you use, the basic principle is class antagonism, and not exploitation, and therefore, capitalism (and previous modes of production) are inherently antagonistic to the basic principle of class struggle. Maulana Maududi -in his writings- cited Marxism-Leninism as a political influence. It should be sufficient to discover that the term was coined by Stalin. The similarities become more apparent when this axis is revealed. Both hold the belief that knowledge and the Master are one and the same. The Master, is something like the fundamental principles, whereas knowledge is its practical application. In Mao's terms, The principle and secondary contradictions. If the two are conflated, what results is Stalinism ("Marxism-Leninism" where Stalin justified the pact with Germany, and the fight against Germany using quotes from Lenin. The secondary contradiction (Fascism) and the principle contradiction (class struggle) were conflated) Therefore, using Islam to find the cure to cancer is a Stalinist move. All failures can be neatly swept under the rug. Cancer can be cured through prayer. If the cancer isn't treated, the prayer was not pure enough. I don't know how comprehendible my comment was, but I'd be glad if someone found this useful.
