Islam Makhachev: I can only be considered among the best ever after I win a belt in a second weight

Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev defends his belt on Saturday in the main event of UFC 302 against former interim champion Dustin Poirier at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Makhachev said "everyone knows" what Poirier is good at and he's prepared to do what needs to be done to get the victory. He said having his friend and former Poirier opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov in the corner will help and that Nurmagomedov has given advice, but he has a clear idea of the game plan.
He said he considers himself the best active fighter in the world, and said if he wins a title in a second weight class he could be in the discussion for the best of all-time. He mentioned fighters such as Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Nurmagomedov, Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva and Demetrious Johnson in that discussion.
Makhachev said he weighs 167 pounds 48 hours before the weigh-in and said he will have no trouble making the 155-pound title-fight limit.

In fact Islam almost lost to Volk the first time. How the hell could anyone that almost lost to a lower weight class even be considered I have no idea. That first fight with Volk ended with Volk on top smashing Islam lol. Islam had banked enough rounds but it certainly wasn't clear Volk wouldn't have finished him if it had just gone on a lilttle longer. Islam was spent.
