Two minor misunderstandings crept into the discussion. First, Mr Alexandr Dugin ambiguously translated that Sheikh Imran said about Salafies as a continuation of Mu'tazilites, which Sheikh Imran ofcourse didn’t say. Second, Sheikh Imran proposed to build a mosque in Moscow to symbolize a friendship between muslims and christians. However, building a mosque in Moscow is problem because of great animosity towards Islam in Russia. This delicate question must be addressed with extreme carefulness.

Rum of the west had fallen before the type of the prophet. Only Rum of the east, known as Byzantium, was standing when the prophet (saw) was alive. I suggest that you read about the history of Rome, it is important to this topic. Specifically about the separation of East and West of the empire, and then the fall of the western Roman empire. These are key events that can help to define who Rum in the Qur'an is. These events are the ones that point to the Eastern Christians being Rum.
