Great video. Love how you're describing your checks and thinking. I search on YT once or twice a month to see if anyone has posted some new BN Islander content. Was delighted to see this today!

That brought back a few pleasant memories so thank you. I flew with Air Mel. ( as a passenger) in the mid 1970s, ten or twelve times but mainly in the southern islands. The furthest north I got was Norsup. I would have liked to get further but it was not to be. Walaha looked beautiful.

Amazing stuff @timothyfoster4714 !!! I am friends with guys who were pilots on Air Mel back in the 70's and 80's so there is a high chance one of them was your pilot at the time. What a small world. Thanks for watching!

@@Pilot_Man_Bushe I flew with Aussie Keith Fitton (now sadly deceased) a couple of times. He was Chief Pilot at the time. There was also a Kiwi, Bob Wylie I think, who ended his career on the 737. The others I can't recall except that at least one was French.
@Pilot_Man_Bushe2 ай бұрын
@@timothyfoster4714 Wow, I know all those names. Bob Wylie is now sadly deceased as well, but his sons are pilots and worked here for several years. The French pilot you're thinking of, would have been Jean-Pierre Callu. He just recently retired as an Airbus captain with Aircalin, based out of Noumea. Incidentally, he is the person who introduced me to aviation, over 20 years ago now!

Great video, was looking for videos about the Islander and found this gem love it. Will certainly be recreating this flight in the sim... Thank you very much.

I'm loving he fact that you'll re-create the flight in the sim. So cool! If you want the specific airport codes or any info, just drop me a note. :) Thanks for watching!

@@Pilot_Man_Bushe I have the BN2 in the sim, airport codes would be really helpful. Haven't flown in Vanuatu, I'm gonna take a look around in the sim as soon as I can.
@Pilot_Man_Bushe4 ай бұрын
I fully support that. :) The airport codes (in sequence for the flight on this video) are: NVVV -> NVSP -> NVSS -> NVSW -> NVSQ - NVSS -> NVSP - NVVV. Have fun and don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have any.

On the smaller islands, are you speaking on an ops frequency, or ATC?
@Pilot_Man_Bushe5 ай бұрын
On most of the outer islands, it's Class G airspace so talking on a common frequency.

@@Pilot_Man_Bushe In the Bahamas. Did some crazy stuff back then! We took the Islander into just about anywhere. Even landing on beaches.Eventually moved to Europe. Flew 737,767,747, 777 for 30 years.

Kids playing soccer on the runway, adults taking a nap or having a picnic, chickens or pigs grazing, I’ve seen all of the above on our island runways. There are no fences, so it’s the Wild West lol.
