For our second Saturday Morning Feature, BlackTreeTV presents Island in the Sun (1957), a provocative and star-studded drama set on a fictitious Caribbean island during colonial British rule. This groundbreaking film features the legendary Harry Belafonte as David Boyeur, a charismatic Black man with political aspirations, and Dorothy Dandridge as Margot Seaton, in a story that explores race, politics, and forbidden love.
The film follows Boyeur as he returns home to the island, where his romantic relationship with a white woman clashes with his political ambitions. Meanwhile, the story delves into the lives of a white expatriate family grappling with infidelity, racism, and murder, providing a nuanced look at the complex dynamics of colonial society.
Island in the Sun created waves upon its release, particularly due to its portrayal of interracial relationships. A rumored screen kiss between Harry Belafonte and Joan Fontaine caused significant controversy in the U.S., making this film a landmark in cinema history. Directed by Robert Rossen and featuring an incredible ensemble cast, including Joan Fontaine and James Mason, the movie remains a compelling exploration of social and political themes.
Join us as we honor the legacies of Harry Belafonte and Dorothy Dandridge with this timeless classic. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and support / blacktreemedia for more classic films and exclusive interviews.

I just finished this. Fantastic film! As a man born in Barbados, this film holds a special place in my heart. Seeing the beautiful shots of my island and my people is so ethereal. I thank all of the people who brought this film to life, especially in a time when it wasn't fashionable to do so. And most importantly, the script was superbly written, blending the multiple stories and weaving in the deeper issues while keeping it entertaining. The conversation between David and Mavis at the end is so poignant. Thank you BlackTree TV for uploading this. Keep 'em coming! 🙌

Do you recall that airplanes ✈️ used to have ashtrays on the armrest. So you mean I can’t use my phone today but I could chainsmoke 30 years ago?

It's called mk ultra mind control. Back then it was cigarettes, coffee and alcohol. Today's product placements are cursing, drugs, coffee and alcohol. It is known that humans mimic what they see, depending on the strength of their will and self-control.
