Great tour and video. IP's have been on my short list for a while now. Matt was spot on, they are solid built, safe and comfortable but not very fast up wind. Affectionately known as Island Piglets because they are beamy and slow but I would take the trade off for the safety and comfortable ride.

Interesting chat about the raw wood around the outside. I was a professional deck builder for 22 years, and have maintained and rejuvenated a shit ton of wood in my time. More than likely since your teak surround is old and dry, it won't crack any more. I totally get not wanting to varnish or epoxy it because then you are stuck with yearly maintenance. Watch the wood closely over the months and years ahead, take close up pics so you can access the condition from year to year. Sometimes wood that is left unfinished can use a very light oiling...like a total wood penetrating Australian timber oil, such as found in Cabot's transparent stains. Conditioning the wood can be a good idea, just watch for deterioration. And Cheers!!!! Love this video perhaps more than the rest which I love too...lol

Hey Bobby! I’ve been meaning to leave a comment on your channel for such a long time. You’ve really been an inspiration for me on so many levels. So I’ve started over the last couple years to transition from terra Firma to the sea. I’ve been trying to settle on a boat to live aboard. Thinking I needed a forty-fifty footer to be comfortable, I was most probably looking at a Beneteau or jeanneau. Well, hells bells. I went to the Boston boat show yesterday, it was mostly power boats and motor yachts, to be sure. But tucked away in the back we’re maybe 6 sailboats. The 44’ Jeanneau a thirty something Hanse, and a forty something Elan. .... and... get this, a brand new island packet 349. For a cool $422k it could be yours! Anyway. It’s the boat for me! Won my heart. The build quality on these boats is amazingly solid, and as you mentioned on your tour-very spacious. I’d wondered why these boats retain their value in the secondary markets better than others. Now I know why. They are special boats. Full keel and sea friendly. Evidently, the ownership changed a couple years back. The new owners are pouring their heart and soul into these boats and their passion shows. It was great to see you do this tour. IP is one of the best blue water boats built. Quality of build, plenty of tankage, shallow draft, protected rudder, no wood in deck, encapsulated keel, Yanmar not Volvo Diesel, I could keep going. Awesome boats. And best of all, American Made!!

The boom on the foredeck has zero to do with "poling out the jib." The boat has a club-footed self-tacking staysail. I'm quite surprised the owner was unaware of that.

How can you really “price” a boat like this, where the owners did a ton of work? The math doesn’t readily carry over to anyone else in any practical way.

@@festerofest4374 A boat is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. Boats like this are easier to price, because Island Packet made a good many of them and sales data can be compared. In the end, it's always a losing proposition in that you never get back what you spent, and it's best to go into the ownership process realizing this.
