I like how you differentiate between guard retention and recovery. Wonderful distinction and that you have seminars for both. Thank you.

especially love how all these apply with gi and no-gi. makes the transition seamless

+Chris Piggott That's the beauty of concept based methods, they have a much more universal application.

+Island Top Team 100% agree. it really makes it easier to follow and understand.

Been using this with great results for last month or more. I actually do grip the gi collar if its available and push my elbow into the shoulder as I apply downward pressure on the neck. I had one of our premier pressure passers who outweighs me by forty pounds telling me that he decided to stop pushing because the harder he pushed the more he was hurting his own shoulder. If it works on him, it really works.

Awesome to hear! It takes pretty sophisticated application of lever control to defeat this style of guard retention, it is one of the bread and butter movements at our academy.

7:50 React early is best. Always. It increases ones chance of getting out of a bad position. Percentages decrease the further into it you are. If early, you can use big adjustments. If later, you may need to use small adjustments instead.

what do you do when they try to to reach out and grab your posting hand to pull you down? thanks!
@IslandTopTeam8 жыл бұрын
+impolitikful The idea is that if someone does that, they are releasing the control of your hip, so you should be able to hip escape if you time it correctly. Additionally, if the angle of your initial frame and post is correct, it should be difficult for your opponent to grab your hand unless there is a significant size disparity. Hope that helps.

does the collar tie series of guard retention lend itself to a particular type of guard?
@IslandTopTeam7 жыл бұрын
It relates more to a style of guard passing than to a particular type of guard, but if you had to pick one, it would be butterfly guard. Keep in mind this simply a concept in application, there are 2 elements to guard retention, 1 blocking the leading edge, 2 mobilizing your hips to recompose your angle. 1 can be accomplished with a frame or a lever, and 2 can be accomplished with a hip escape, a high leg, or a granby. This is an example of a frame and hip escape.

strange to see the same explanation, the same word than this DVD Defensive Guard from Ryan Hall

+BJJ Nouvelles Not at all, Ryan Hall is a huge influence, I actually recommended his DVD during the seminar and mention it in the description of this video :-).
