Always nice to get one on the last cast .! Even if it's the only one in 4 hours. Can Brown trout see in the dark ? I've caught a few when almost dark but what about real darkness ? I've asked a few " experts ".....but , as usual got several different answers . ! Thanks guys !!🤔🤔

Thanks bud, yep agreed you can't beat a fish last knocking! Good question, so what I've been told is that although a Trouts eyes aren't specifically designed for the dark, they can certainly see in the dark. Most of the Sea Trout fishing I have done has been at night and they hit the fly with real accuracy and aggression, but I think a lot of their senses and ability to hunt in the dark is down to the Lateral Line and how adapted it for Salmonoid species who predominantly predate in fast flowing and coloured water. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment. All the best and Tite Lines G 😁 👊 🎣

Thanks for reply . I know that seatrout are very active in darkness . One " expert " - aren't we all ? - did suggest that Hebridean darkness in summer months is not really dark . And that trout see the fly silhoutted from below against the sky ..? Which to be fair sounds reasonable. Although the lateral line explanation seems equally good. When you have an " instant take " for example as soon as the fly touches water then obviously sight is the important sense. Anyway ....we're straying into Anorak territory .Enough !!

@2msvalkyrie Anorak territory!!🤣🤣 I'm inclined to agree with the not getting dark comment for the Hebrides, I've been up there in high summer and still be fishing and catching 3 or 4 in the morning as the sun rises! This video though I shot last March at the beginning of the season on the Island and the fish was on the feed, and I made a lucky cast on his nose. They are intriguing creatures, and their habits never seize to amaze me. Take care mate G

Thanks for sharing this video (From TR FB group)! It was a fun one! That last fish was a big one! Serious shoulders. Too bad it was so dark.

Thanks man, it certainly was a memorable fish. Year sadly I didn't have my backing light with me or even a head torch. As I say I should have gone by that point but I just couldn't resist it! Thanks for your kind comments. Tite Lines G
