“Isleños, a root of America” is a documentary film telling the story of a small American community of Canarian origin. This community has managed to maintain a unique identity even after more than 200 years, preserving their culture and traditions from the Canary Islands, that date from the 18th century, and struggling to defend their ancestral roots right in the epicenter of globalization.
A journey back in time through the history of the United States under the guidance of a community unknown to the general public that played an influential role in politics, arts and culture, military history and in the American society in a significant and unique way.

Me alegro mucho, y darles las gracias, soy de tenerife, y la verdad, cada vez que encuentro este tipo de noticias me emociono. Tengo familiares lejanos por parte de padre y madre que emigraron a Miami, Cuba y Venezuela. Yo tambien he viajado, pero mi añoranza me trajo otra vez, con mi propia familia hace ya 9 años

I just realised.... My Mother n Law.....RIP now.....said her Mothers side was from Delacroix ...La. .... Her Mother and family spoke Spanish.....her Mother died after 13 kids....at the time my Mother in Law was abour 8 yrs. Old..... Her father and family live here in Biloxi......Voyovich family but I do not know the Delacroix family name.... I will have to ask someone .

Canary people forced by the Spanish government to leave their homeland, an African colony, in order to fight for Spanish's interests in other colonies. As JD says, they didn't go there as Spanish people, but as an evidence for Spanish power over indigenous people, a proof that no matter how strong the Indian (Canary people were considered Indians too) was, Spaniards were able to put them down.

Jake De La Cuesta lol what the heck is white blaming? Lol.... we have spanish blood but we also have guanche blood (indigenous North African Berbers of the Canary Islands) he was referring to the guanche ancestry in that comment about indian...he probably meant indigenous people...but just worded it wrong... we were never considered Indians, but we were not exactly considered Iberians either... that’s why we have the name islanders (isleños)... our own people...

@@danoninonino1864 Do you know how to read? @Jake De La Cuesta when spaniards used the term "Indias Occidentales" they referred to Canary Islands and America, look at any history book. @Tito Torres thanks dude, but I meant that the spanish term "indio" (indian) was an error, and as long as they adapted it to the "Indias Occidentales", Guanche people were considered Indians too, even though current history books in the islands are falsified, such as other information referring to climate, traditions or agricultural production.
