As a lad who grew up in Hartcliffe and loved every minute of it, I find it sad that clubs like Hartcliffe Boys club no longer exist, from the age of eleven to Sixteen, the club gave me so many opportunities to try all types of sport, made so many friends, kept me from getting into Mischief, really feel for the young generation.

Loved this, many memories of growing up in fulford rd back the 60s and 70s, going to the Gatcomb for a pint at 16 to becoming my regular, and yes it did teach you respect for your elders, although I had respect anyway because if I didn’t I’d get a clout from the old man😂

Not criticising but the assumption that the aspiration to get a mortgage is the ultimate solution seems a bit unneccessary. If council houses were decent and plentiful they would have no stigma and be perfectly adequate to allow a decent life, free of a big debt pinning the family down to toil. It would change everything. People would have a choice and more freedom as a result. And, oh yes, many- many of the 1% would lose an income stream and investment opportunity.

NFH by the way stood for Normal For Hartcliffe this rendered a lot of problems with no further action taken, resignation of care, not surprising after decades of that they had the riots

We actually made a follow up film, commissioned by Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Partnership, called “Normal for Hartcliffe”. I don’t believe it’s available online yet but keep an eye out if you’re interested!

@@mattbucknerguitar thanks Mark I am a hartcliffionian although in Devon left 30yrs plus ago just after the riots, still got family there, good to hear all is not lost not that I ever thought it was there is and was a lot for a lot of people to contend with so good role models are needed for some good luck with next film always good to see fellow former residents helping, after all it is part of who what and how we are and of the time, many have fallen along the way, so hope it helps more stand.

Riots caused by anger, due to police getting away with murder ramming head on oncoming stolen police bike with two people on and the officers got away with it, don't forget the initials NFH on records kept by police medical and social services producing many failings for the people of this area, thanks for the video, aspirations need to be nurtured and fed with confidence and education, good to see the love the problems aren't unique to Hartcliffe alone but a general symptom of capitalist hierarchy and neglect due to financial boundaries. Lobby for Hartcliffe

He was 11 in "92, had a kid at 19 so we'll say the year 2000 for sake of arguement and he pays however much for the 2 kids to go to drama classes on the weekend. Wouldn't one of the kids be an adult by now?21/22 years old at time of filming?

Really sad to see this, I used to live until around 1974 at 95 fulford around three houses from the shops and my mother worked for a while in the fulford house, sad to see what our grand children have let this once great estate decline into

Yeah, but back in the day if you didn't act up the landlord would let you drink underage. like these guys said you did learn respect at a pub and it can help turn boys into men.
