Don Quixote was actually a obligatory book we had to reed in the elementary school. I think it was six grade, in Europe this is for kids of 11-12 years of age. I remember loving the book. Everybody in the class found it very boring, but me as a kid that grew up with RPGs it was like reading a parody, like an delusional RPG enthusiast went out one day to relive it all. @fancydeer Жыл бұрын
I cried at the end. I'm just overly emotion rn but man I was so glad it ended the way it did. After that guy experimented on babies and turned kids into "monsters" and was all "omg why are these kids becoming mindless killing machines after we torture them and keep them from their siblings and rip them from their parents and keep them in a radioactive hole in the ground??" And then Dara was talking about her brother and how he lived and couldn't understand why his dad wasn't responding and the sad boys that lived with him and his death and stuff. IDK the end was good.
@vivil8005 Жыл бұрын
The guy just wanted to reach mass-production of psychics as soon as possible. Ethics be damned. Heck, plain old scientific method be damned. He was so focused on his twin theory he completely neglected the possibility triplets could work as well. Truthfully, there is a bit of a plot hole here, just something I'd like to have more explanation on. Why not keep Desmond? We didn't hear anything about him having any health conditions, so between him and Devon, you'd think the scientist would put more effort into the healthy one. I'd have liked to have heard more on that reasoning. You can come up with a couple decent theories (Desmond was the last born, and the dude thought only the first two would have a connection, or that he gave Desmond away to keep the gov funding for a little while longer). But it should be expounded upon. Like, we have no idea how much the Ministry knows-was Desmond assigned to this case on purpose, or was it just happenstance?
@CelticLuna Жыл бұрын
@@vivil8005 I was thinking of them wanting the kids to be raised in different environments to see how they would grow up to be but yeah it could've been about the funding.
@PinkPanther45518 Жыл бұрын
Ooooh! I knew it. I knew Desmond had to be related to Daya. Didn't know he was from triplets though. That makes a lot of sense though. It also makes sense why he can see things that regular folks can't or hear voices others can't. He could have literally watched everything happening through the eyes of the people around him. So in a way the events we see unfold around us are just his memories bubbling to the surface about what actually took place here. That's so creepy being able to see things that aren't there but just memories from another person's view. So cool and super creepy.

Great playthrough, thank you Gab. The one thing that irked me through the game was that the place was sealed in 1976-ish. Yet, the older characters in the game were wearing late Victorian dress. If Dr Lewelin was around till the 70's that would have made him about 90 odd years old. You would have thought that they would have tried to get the dress correct, for people who would have been having children in the 1950's. Instead , theyre wandering around in Victoriana,.. and then Dara shows up in contemporary modern clothes. Its all over the place...
@Vikki_T Жыл бұрын
That was a great ending for a short game. I honestly thought he was the twin until we find out what happened to the twin, and with everything pointing only to twins in the game, it made my brain rule out anything more. Yeah, the timer was a weird point, especially given it only activated when you entered. I think something like this would make a good TV show, and at the last episode or part when Desmond comes out Dara can narrate instead of him.
@RosinaEmilyW Жыл бұрын
I guessed it, but only because I am nit picky. Dara was hearing “voices” which wouldn’t make sense if she was only hearing Devon. And if there was one aspect of translation you’d make sure to do right, it would be that. Although saying “hearing voices” is a common phrase, if it was only one, I felt like Dara would have been a bit more specific. I was still unsure though, and enjoyed the twist just the same! Fantastic game!
@Vikki_T Жыл бұрын

So I think I'm on the right track. Is Desmond the third sibling that was completely ignored by the doctor? That's the only thing that makes sense to me, because in the beginning I thought he was Dara's twin until they said something about Devon, then I thought he either had his name changed or he was somehow a third sibling of Dara and Devon, because his name is Desmond. There just seemed to be a theme with D names, so it would make sense for Desmond to somehow be related to all this or just some insane coincidence which I find highly unlikely. Also, doctor dude is super messed up!

At 12:54 Those are paintings of Alphonse Mucha. Mucha was a Czech artist, painter, and illustrator that worked during the Art Nouveau period. He became famous for creating a very shrinking stylistic way of portraying celebrities and models of the time, which became a marker of the Art Nouveau movement in itself. Many of his works became posters and banners for large brands and companies of the time, as well as of celebrities such as Sarah Bernhardt, one of the great French actress of the 20th century. Also, Mucha and I share the same birthday :) Great play through as always ❤

Gab: "Did phones just have seven digits back in the day?" Me, who is old enough to remember rotary dials: *momentarily confused, actually starts counting on fingers* Uh, no, because that doesn't even make mathematical sense. Including the number 0, the minimum number of numbers you need to dial any number is still 10. Because, like, we count numbers in Base 10, usually. That phone can't call any number that includes the numbers 8, 9 or 0. Which is _a lot_ of numbers. And that last number is _especially_ important. Because again, our whole system is based around Base 10, which includes the number 0.

So that also explains why Agent Desmond could see the images of “ghosts”; they weren’t actually spirits of the dead 💀, but rather, they were the memories of his siblings sent via their telepathic connection. And since such communication was through telepathy, their deceased brother’s memories were also Dara’s. So she sent Desmond her knowledge of said transmitted memories to Desmond to help him figure things out along the way.

I really like this game but I agree with you on the timed elements especially timed puzzles. I think they added the timer to emphasize how dangerous the circumstances the agent Desmond was in. In terms of game play though timers are just stressful and especially with puzzles it removes the ability to pause and think through everything. Obviously there is in game pause but I don't really like that you have to resort to that. Anyway, my conclusion is I think timed elements can add to the atmosphere of the game but they also make it frustrating for the player so ideally there would be an option in accessibility or game play settings to turn off or on timed elements.

At least, I do not think there is any other relevant conclusion to be drawn.. Other than to give the player the time to read said documents. 4th wall breaking, unless they would've made an in-world explanation why the countdown would pause.. Perhaps something like, 'You can use these keypads to dump emergency water-reserves on the core.. But this needs to be supervised, that's why the countdown resumes as soon as you leave the area.. And also add some addendum on a note somewhere, to mention that 'In case of a meltdown, this will not stop a cascade-level event in the fission-reactor, only pause it.' -Or something like that.

I am incredibly BAD with horror, however I am having SO MUCH FUN watching you play these games!!! I've watch this playthrough more than once because the story is excellent and your reading voice is absolutely enchanting. Thank you so much for the content!!

I didn't expect that twist which is rare. The game started and his name just flew out of my brain. Lol

I totally understand getting tunnel vision and making mistakes while on a timer (even beyond games). Those always serve as a giant mental block, which makes it harder to enjoy the game or solve any puzzles.

I'm glad this is up on youtube, so that I could pause and read through all the documents during the timed part. spoilers below! I wonder about the ministry's motives though. did they think he would be particularly likely to make it out, given it's his origin? or maybe they hoped he would die there, and all the evidence would be locked away in one place. I can't imagine anyone from the eu actually investigating the place, since it's so difficult to get out of AND will be full nuclear radiation soon. for a sciency horror story it actually worked quite well for me, except for the twinplets themselves. first of all, the line 'born identical twins, male and female' is impossible. for identical twins to be different genders one of them would have to transition later in life. also, llewellyn had implanted the embryos himself, and it seems very unlikely that he and his wife had had sex at that time (they had 'grown distant') so the only way there could be a secret third triplet was if one of the implanted embryos doubled, and devon had a heart condition. which leaves us with two possibilities. llewellyn didn't actually know that identical twins have the same genetics and dara and devon are as related as normal siblings (which would contribute to his experiments failing, lol) or he had, for some reason, modified the egg that would become dara to have 2 X chromosomes instead of XY and the genes for devon's heart were sex linked (on the Y chromosome). either way that makes desmond a canon trans man, since he would be the identical twin of dara, since if he was devon's he would presumably share the heart condition. of course, I'm making a lot of assumptions about the heart condition being genetic, but since it was there from birth and their conditions in the womb were the same it makes the most sense to me. ayway sorry to ramble on about science technicalities but I wanted to get this out of my brain, lol. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and game setup overall!

that light going out in the opening is something that happened to me in real life, it was a genuinely scary moment

Idk if anyone else noticed this, but the name of the game is also a theatre term, specifically to do with the greek classics. Charon is the ferryman that guides souls across the river Styx to the underworld. And Charon’s staircase refers to a staircase in the middle of a stage that leads down to the orchestra pit where characters will come from/go to signal that they are from/going to the underworld.

Awesome game so far, it's totally giving me Dear Esther vibes with the narration and the soundtrack.

It would be nice if games like this and Painscreek had a relaxed play option because I hate being timed so much and I'm way more interested in the atmosphere than monsters and chase sequences. I get it it's probably way harder to have a mystery solving game with just a tense spooky atmosphere and no timed/monster/chase segments than it is to have it with. Anyway I enjoyed watching this.

I would recommend the Inheritance of crimson manor for that type of game play!

11:23 - it's worth the time. A dense read but a lot of fun. 12:55 - Yeah, those are either Mucha pieces or they're really good works in the same style.
