I'm working on a game with my friends, me being the pixel artist, but my severe lack of concentration doesn't allow me to work on tasks for prolonged periods of time. This was 17 hours for one tavern... some games have like hundreds of house interiors...ins't there a faster way to do this? or it gets way faster after with reusing parts?

depends on if the artist copy pastes or does every scene new and unique. Most games are uniform tho. I made like a few hundred assets for my last game and just built the scene with those instead of drawing it. If the game has a big emphasis on unique atmosphere/settings and environment art, this may not be the best approach.@@paladine4life

@@paladine4life For interiors most developers make a set of tiles which can be reused throughout an entire level/area, take Undertale for instance, the Ruins location is mainly purple, with some variation on those tiles, whether that be vines, more defined bricks, cracks, etc, to give the area more detail without having to redraw everything. Though most developers don't create levels like this in the gaming industry all in one go as seen with this tavern, they make as said Tiles, the building blocks of the level, these are smaller pieces of the interior/level which are put together later on in the game making application.

Maytch you are so good. I have been wanting to start doing pixel art for a while now I even have Aseprite downloaded and waiting but I'm so scared to start and disappoint myself. Have you ever felt like that and if so what is your advice on over coming it?

Yes, every day for years! It's frustrating when the thing you picture in your head doesn't materialize in front of you, or when you're not sure what to make and the thing you spent time on comes out bad. It has to be something you force yourself to do at times, and try to find fun ways of doing it and keep doing it. The same probably goes for all forms of art. So it's good to have a big project or two you're passionate about, but not be afraid to put them to the side or start again on, alongside microprojects like Pixel Dailies (x.com/Pixel_Dailies) where you have daily challenges that you can try to do a few times a week, take part in mini pixel art collaborations or competitions on discords, take part in gamejams or minigames to push yourself on delivering art (but start SMALL!). And for that big thing you want to do, break it right down into a small element you can try. Then walk away from it at times and come back to it. Also once you build up the habit, be sure you don't stop. Like how Duolingo pesters everyone when they skip a day. It'll feel like the world is trying to break your streak of doing some every day.

It's Aseprite, and apparently it does work on Ubuntu, but I use the Windows version

You can compile it from the source code for free github.com/aseprite/aseprite but that's complicated and I've not tried it. It can be purchased otherwise.

When you start a new piece or open a piece, it opens in a new tab. You can drag the tab (the bit that has the filename in it) to split the windows. E.g. drag it to the right of your current window to get 2 horizontal windows, or the bottom for 2 vertical windows. You can have as many windows as you like!

I don't get the theme. Is this a game? A chat? A... anime? All of it? Weapons lie around... so its not a game. It looks like a simulated chat room but... characters can sit on barells and this angers others somehow? And your secret map is for all to see? ... but lets circle back to this being game logic. So this might be a quest point, alright... and everione is female, cause thats the world, and while armor is a thing only a few chosen ones wear it while the rest dresses cute (or is this the typical 'bikini armor with 999defense?). I am also kinda bothered by *5* filled beesteins sitting on the counter and just going flat. Only 2 people drink beer and they still have one! ... its just... off. Uncanny. I suggest go to a bar. virtual. real life. both?! and sit down and have a few fresh beer. Observe what people do, take a note, and try to get it a bit more organic and in-universe. This scene is like drawing the Northpole and Santa... and Pengiuns... and a living Snowman.... and Icebears. Its all 'snow themed' but it just doesn't add up. Pengiuns are on the wrong pole. Living snowman (aka jack frost) doesn't really show up next to Santa (let alone on any pole) and the polar bear is a wild animal (unless you are coka cola and make an ad out of it) so its not something Santa does interact with. At least i cant say i recall any time he did (tv/show). One would expect him to talk to elves or his wife or... reindeer... ~ that kinda stuff. 'The usual' one would say. Not arguing your skills. Just the theme. Just to get this clear one more time for the nay sayers. Its called constructive critisism. Not 'agreeing blindly' like a fan.atic^^ ♥

It's not had that much thought in it. I'd drawn a couple of pieces before this, then I sent out a tweet telling people to reply with their original characters and I'll see what happens. Everything else is improvised at the time of creation. I carried across a few of my characters from other pieces I made, and 11 people responded with their characters. 6/17 are probably male, but both the art style of the piece and the designs of some characters are quite feminine. There's a few different things going on where characters are either taking part in something or looking at the action of something, like the bar staff getting the drunk rabbit down from the stacked barrels, or the group planning an adventure. Like a Where's Waldo, but not quite so chaotic. That was one aim, but other than that, strategic design took a backseat in favor of improvision. If I'd made it at another time of day or week, the entire thing would be completely different. As for the steins, well, when you draw something once you gotta make the most of it!

I definitely wrote a reply to this but it must not have submitted properly! To be honest it was mostly just an improv piece. Following a previous isometric scene, I made a post on twitter asking people to submit their characters and I'd include them in a piece. I added a few I made from previous scenes, and then the rest is just made based on what I thought up at the time. There are about 6 males in there but it's a very cutesy art style, as were most of the characters submitted.
