One of the lads drilled a hole 25mm wide in a galvanized steel water tank, filled it with isopon, still holding up today, brilliant stuff. has been under water for 12 years now, not sure if the good people at Isopon recommend it, but it worked for me.

I am a body worker and when it starts to rust it dosen't matter that you sanded it away the rust is already in the metal that is why you need to cut araund the rusted part to cot away any rust whitin the metal itself. @@minikmetija1905 I understand what you mean now. They did cut away all the rusted metal in the video. You say you should put solid metal in the hole rather than mesh but I don't think the filler would hold as well onto a flat surface than it would to a mesh and the filler should be hard enough not to need it?

@@spinach4949 as i alredy told you i am a car schooled car body and paint worker and if you sanded the metal patch whit 60-80 grid sand paper it will be on ther for as long as the metal dosen't rust again. But i understand the perspective of a DIY man and the differance is deffenetly the price and the end result, plus to do a proper repair you need a welder and considering the price i understend your way of repair. Please understend that all i am doing is explaining the proper method i was thot and taking intho consideration i restored multiple vintage cars i can say i have some experience. I wonder if only applying the material from the front side create a strong enough foundation. Should you also need to apply it on the back side so that the mesh gets strongly fixed onto the body? I feel a strong pressure on the repaired area could give in.

This is helpful, thanks, but differs from the instructions on the Isopon aluminium mesh (sold as a separate item). That recommends using a small amount of Isopon P40 (hole filler) to stick the mesh to the rear surface of the metal, let it set, then fill from behind the repair with more P40. Finally, when that has set, add a layer of Isopon P38 (looks like the second lot of stuff that the person in this video mixes up), allow it to harden, then sand down. So I'm confused! P40 is VERY difficult to sand down because of the glass fibres in the mixture which become brittle glass whiskers when set.

*U POL I have a question: For example when a vehicle/car has been rear ended by a tractor trailer truck (hitting one side of the rear bumper) cracking the bumper / ripping off one of the tail lights aka brake lights and smashing the rear quarter panel...... QUESTION ONE (1) What are other possible issues that are likely to have occurred to the vehicle that the naked eye and non mechanics/non body shop specialists would not be aware of* *could yah list the guestimate price for each repair including the obvious repair/replacement of the bumper, tail light and rear quarter panel*

Would this still work if the hole im patching is a sharp curve on a front bumper?
@UPOLRaptor
@UPOLRaptor 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Juza, A repair to a sharp curve should be possible, it will just be more tricky to shape and apply the P40 filler to the aluminium mesh. Shaping the repair whilst sanding will probably also be more time consuming than a flat repair.

@UPOLRaptor
@UPOLRaptor 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan, The aerosol provided in this kit will contain a small metal ball, this will potentially have settled at the bottom of the can along with some of the base product - shaking the can in an up and down motion will release this ball and ensure that complete mixing of the base with the propellant to give the required product application.

@dunebasher1971
@dunebasher1971 4 жыл бұрын
The mesh HAS to go behind the hole, so you have to get behind the panel somehow. If you can't do that, your only option is to forget about body filler entirely and repair the hole by welding in a new piece of steel (which some will argue is the only proper body repair anyway).

Hi Trent, Repairing a hole from the front can be done. You will need to tap the edges of the hole to create a slight recess for the mesh to sit in - this will then allow the mesh to sit level with the metal substrate. Hope it helps

To apply the mesh to the front of the hole, you have to use a hammer to intentionally dent the area around the hole and create a "recess" for the mesh to sit in, so that the surface of the mesh is flush with (or even fractionally below) the surface of the rest of the panel.
