The worst part of this thing with random bits of other countries inside of each other after peace deals is, real peace deals are like this. Berlin was inside of the Soviet German puppet but half of it was held by the Allies. That's the most famous example but also pretty relevant for this game, where the scripted peace deal doesn't try to simulate that but other peace deals usually do. Probably for the better that cities can't really be split like that in this game or you'd see it a lot more.

Make sure to use IR timeline extender mod so historical events like Christianity, Islam, Hunnic invasions, plagues, etc are added beyond the regular IR timeline. I'd hyped up and watched this Mongol steam roller getting closer and closer to me. There would be a time for instance during my Sami campaign, or my Polish campaign where there was literally just one kingdom between us. I was about to get stuck in. ... and then they blow up.
