I haven't heard any protests from Syria's new government about Israel's behaviour, but I can't imagine they are happy? (We often hear that Iran, Egypt or the UN has condemned the incursions, but not Syria itself, which is being invaded.) Why do the Western powers not feel the need to give even token perfunctory criticisms of Israeli aggression against Syria? It really is a disgrace.

I understand that we want to condemn the violence of the shooting. We must also condemn the violence of the CEO denying health insurance claims. The fact is that the CEO did a lot more harm to society; that his actions were legal is part of the violence. Condemning the former but not the latter is not going to help resolve the problem, it's only going to deepen divisions.

the situation with the Red Brigades in Italy was more complicated than that and one would have to know about the political history of the country since the end of WWII to fully understand the forces at play. however, I do think that their strategy was ultimately self-defeating, although it's much easier to say it after 40-50 years have gone by. Italy back then was a whole different country with a very different society. to me, Mangioni's story has little to do with armed struggle as the Red Brigades or another similar groups conceived it, and it's much more akin to acts commited by lone wolves like the ones perpetrated by anarchists between the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
@vinnie_talks_sht7316Ай бұрын
In reference to the Aldo Moro kidnapping and murder, lets not forget the pernicious influence of NATO/CIA/MI6 operatives under the auspices of the extremely right wing Operation Gladio, there is ample evidence to suggest this was false flagged onto the Red Brigades in order to achieve the results Michael highlighted. Way too different to use as an analogy for this random killing of a CEO.
@JessicaDaineseАй бұрын
Bravo! Assolutamente d'accordo.

Walker neglected to learn that the red brigades were a Nato outfit, admitted to through operation gladio
@dovic86Ай бұрын
that's a conspiracy theory, although both the BR, the right wing of the Christian Democracy (DC) party and the US didn't support a compromise or a collaboration between the DC and the Communist Party.
@rp1692Ай бұрын
@@0MVR_0 Much of the violence blamed on the red brigades was actually committed by far right terror groups that were affiliated to NATO. The red brigades themselves were not NATO. There were no doubt some infiltrators, but there were also MI5 agents within the provisional IRA - that doesn't make the PIRA as a whole an instrument of the British state.
@JessicaDaineseАй бұрын
Yes, as an Italian I am disappointed by this narrative of the BR. It is a much more complicated story.
@JessicaDaineseАй бұрын
1) Both "black" and "red" terrorism in Italy from 1969 to 1981 was backed by Gladio (CIA and other actors). It was psychological warfare to push the general public to support the centrist, pro-Usa, pro-Nato, Democrazia Cristiana. The Italian Communist Party was going to win the elections fair and square, and the Americans could not allow that to happen in a Western European country. They killed and injured hundreds of innocent civilians in the process.
@JessicaDaineseАй бұрын
2) That's just one of the horrible things the USA did in Italy since post WWII. It's not a surprise a big part of the Italian population is anti-American, both on the Left and on the Right.

I think the assassination of Abe called attention to an issue that pushes two very big red buttons in Japanese politics: financial corruption in the ruling party and the status of religious organizations, in particular “new religions” or shin-shukyo. In my experience, people find proselytising to be almost an insult, akin to brainwashing, and there is intense suspicion of religious influence in politics. The two precedents for dissolution were Aum Shinrikyo of Sarin gas attack fame and a group found guilty of fraud. When I talk to people about the assassination, there is almost universal condemnation and horror that such a thing could happen in contemporary Japan. Most people represent the narrative as “the church stuff drove this guy crazy”. So I’d hesitate to say that people draw a direct connection between the act and the public awareness. I’ve certainly not heard it said that “he got what he wanted” - it was more that the corruption revealed touched a nerve.

"Syria is a sovereign nation amd it needs an army" North korea is also a sovereign country and it also needs an army. Please enlighten me what is the difference? Israel didn't topple the Assad regime as a known enemy is preferable to an unknown one. In addition Syria under Assad had close ties to Iran and more importantly Russia today's Syria doesn't and therefore is considered free game. Israel didn't sign any peace treaty with Syria not with the previous regime and not with the incumbent one. The suggestion Israel should trust The UN to keep the peace is naive at best, as UNIFIL demonstrated copmplet inaptitude in upholding 1701 resolution.
@IsraelpwnАй бұрын
Anything that we do that isn't begging for mercy at gunpoint is seen as aggression to them. They couldn't care less if the UN fails or succeeds to uphold any resolution, so long as the Jews get the bitter end of the stick. Sometimes they forget the narrative and let slip that not the "West Bank" or Golan are "occupied territory" but so is Haifa, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva ...
@richardhunter132Ай бұрын
it would be strange if, once Syria gets back on its feet, that they wouldn't develop a military of sorts. all this bombing seems to serve to do is delay that development, but with the addition of making it less likely that the new government would be well disposed towards Israel. madness
