Another riveting interview. As a white South African who lived in South Africa during those awful, horrific years, it is a constant deep sadness for me that I wasn’t more active and more vocal during that time. I had no real platform except as a teacher, and I spent many years teaching both black and white high school students, trying to open minds and support individual struggles. It came to the point where my sense of helplessness overwhelmed me and I left. I’m back in South Africa now and every day I’m almost on my knees with gratitude that this beautiful country is where is it today. My support for Palestine is absolutely unconditional. You understand any claims of apartheid could only ever possibly apply to Israel proper and not Gaza or West Bank, right? You can't have apartheid with an occupied territory. As a German who is just experiencing how the freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution has been restricted by the government and people are frightened to speak out, it is a relief to get thoughtful voices based on the principles of the general human rights. As of now everybody in Germany who gets a funding by the government has to sign an agreement to conform to the IHRA definition of antisemitism, meaning that basically every critique of the Israeli system is deemed antisemitic and will lead to the loss of fundings. Apsrtheid should be written with a capital A as it was the name of a system exclusively to SA. What Israel has is a thousand times worse, so not Apartheid.

"Palestine is the most important moral issue of our time" - Andrew Feinstein
@stephenglasse274310 ай бұрын
that's clearly false and demonstrates his racism and moral vacuity. firstly, ABORTION is the most important. In uk alone something like 100 000+ lives are snuffed out every year! Just 2-3 years of abortion in uk kills more human lives than entire arab israeli conflict. ever. secondly more lives have been ended in yemen since 2014 than in entire arab israeli conflict! Andrew is morally blind.

Massive props to Andrew. Always liked his words. I met Desmond Tutu back in the early eighties in Brussels. He was the first person I encountered who made this comparison. I knew nothing about Palestine at the time, and he led me to the facts. He also said it was worse than apartheid in SA. It's been really telling that the loudest voices in opposition to Israel's actions have been the South Africans and the Irish. People who really grok solidarity. None of the cosplayers ever got it.
