I had a Charter Arms AR7, it was a bullet hose with terrible sights. I got a 25 round magazine and put so many .22s down range that I warped the barrel. Charter Arms was Stand Up guys and sent me another barrel, but I eventually swapped the thing for my first revolver (I was young) which turned out to be outright dangerous...but we learn.

I entered the Air Force in 1990 and when i finally came home, a lot of my things were gone. I’ve tried the newer magazines, the ones for the Henry survival rifles, and have not managed to get it to work right. Does yours have swirls of color in the plastic? I don't have this exact version of the gun, but I do have Henry's version of this thing: the US Survival Rifle. Other than the need to use at least 40 grain .22 LR for the bolt to cycle properly (it'll still work with lighter loads, it just won't reload after shooting, making it function like a straight-pull bolt-action). Definitely a gun I'd recommend to anybody who needs a SHTF gun, if only to keep yourself fed and save ammo for your self-defense gun.

For all the length & supposed compactness, I suspect more utility could be had from a long-barrel 22 pistol with muzzle can and detachable stock. Of course, stateside you'd have two xfer tax stamps [one for SBR, one for the can] but in a military use context [pilot survival rig] it would make more sense than the rifle. Or maybe just a Skorpion w/ a can? Hmm...

You didn't mention cleaning the AR-7. I have a Charter Arms AR-7 and the directions say if you want to clean the action you "leave assembled and wash in any petroleum solvent". I never could get that to work well. Removing the bolt for cleaning requires the removal of the receiver side plate and about a dozen little parts. Reassembly requires some experience and practice to be able to do it in a reasonable amount of time. The rifle is a lot of fun, but every time I clean My AR-7 I can't believe the same team who designed the AR-15 designed this rifle.

Why don't you create a kit using a AR-15 grip a picatinny rail along with a front sight base to attach AR-15 sights. ( My personal choice of open sites would be the brown owls 360° barrel rear sight along with an h and k Style three quarter Circle front sight ) a dot Style Optical site. Just maybe you could work out something with Henry repeating arms to develop a aftermarket kit or a production rifle.
