ISS Pass over EU 18.22 - FT - 847

Hi Simon. I'm new to working satellites, however, I've made an antennna and using my Ft-818 I've been trying to get into the ISS repeater for a good few days now with no success - including this pass and the one just gone at 8pm. There seem to be plenty getting in though, although I've noticed a lot of operators seem to give their callsign but not actually have a QSO with someone who has just given theirs. My next plan is get my handheld sorted out for RX so I can hear if I'm getting in at all... I'll need to build another antenna for that though...

Hi Jim great to hear your getting into the Satellite bands its a lot of fun and very addictive 😆 excellent on the antenna 📡 that is the best part when you make it yourself and it works. I would not be too upset the guys who are getting in a lot have plenty of watts and good antennas and in many cases lots of experience. I had a couple of half decent qso later on in the evening when its less busy. That is the secret with this one. Also I noticed that its always on approach that works overhead and passing and decending is tricky. I don't think the installation up there is premium. It seems to be an apprentice installation by someone on there first week lol. The Satellites will be much better for you. Try AO-91 its very easy. Hope we meet up on there soon. Hi Simon I did a lot of shouting but couldn't work a soul, too many super strong stations, would have had a better chance on 80m again with you lol, something not right with the ISS still like you pointed out drops out when it should be strong ie. 30 degrees etc. You missing an element mate, listen for you again de Jon M5DZH

Yes its a tricky one for sure. you are the first to spot it lol very observing I wondered who would notice 😄 yes an owl or pigeon party on my deflecter has damaged it the feathery sods lol. I will have to get down sometime and make a replacement. Maybe half-term if the wx is OK. Keep trying and one time it will happen. Will be back on HF as soon as the band is open again its been terrible on hf all week. Catch you soon buddy
