FINALLY!!! I am shy, quiet, introverted, and people make me feel weird as HECK.... I avoid my neighbors all day long. I have to peep out the window before bolting to the car. LMAO!!!! Thank you Issa, for coming to us. I almost forgot how to express myself but you have paved the way and have rejuvenated my brain cells.

I LOVE Issa Rae so much, she is such an inspiration to black girls and women who don't fall into the norm! I still watch Awkward Black Girl to this day when I need a good laugh and I bought her book as soon as it was released! I want to be a filmmaker so bad and because of Issa, I'm already getting stuff together and planning for next year!

Good luck with your film making career Taylaur. I'm proud Issa is a fellow Angeleno. She's an inspiration to white, female film makers too. She's hugely popular with Pan-African professors in Los Angeles which is how I found out about her. I'm sad Issa isn't making A.B.G. anymore, but I wish her the best of luck in whatever project she works on.

honestly, ABG was such a great, amazing thing. Not only did it bring out Issa Rae ( who is amazing) but it opened my eyes to all of the amazing web content here on KZbin.

There's a crossover here between awkward and black, in that awkward (to me in this context) means introvert. Introverts have long been overlooked, ignored, maligned, you name it. To this day, extroverts are ignorant and think we just need to "come out of our shell," stupid shit like that. Introverts are now starting to be more out there, so to speak, with books like QUIET, shows like AWKWARD BLACK GIRL and MR. ROBOT. Which makes sense because the world is technology-driven. And most tech heads are nerds and introverts. Our time is NOW.

YES! Quiet by Susan Cain confirmed that there's nothing wrong with me as an introvert and it's society's (extrovert) expectations that need to adapt to people like us. There's room for all personality types. Watching ABG for the first time literally brought tears to my eyes because I finally saw an image of a black woman that was soooo me for the first time. Kudos to Issa Rae for her courage and creativity in giving a mainstream voice to us introvert black girls!
@lindaharrison32408 жыл бұрын
YES! I love her, too. She's so creative and talented and funny! That's another thing about introverts that people don't understand: we CAN BE hilarious and outgoing, but usually only on stage. Once that curtain comes down, we retreat to Introversia.

+TheUrbanTiger I don't think that The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl is going to return. She's getting her own show on HBO called "Insecure" which is supposed to be similar to Awkward Black Girl. If the pilot goes through, that show is what's going to take up most of her time. That web series really propelled her and I'm so proud of her. I just wish that she would had continued with the series until something bigger, like her her own show on HBO, had come along. I don't think Issa realize just how much of the voice she is of awkward black girls. That show resonated with so many awkward, introverted black people, and awkward, introverted people in general. There was an untapped market, and she fulfilled it. I'm so proud of Issa.

fine. I clarify. African American history as it concerns black americans of American slave decent. that is why I use the term black American to describe myself, instead of African American. anyone can claim it. you don't even have to be from this diaspora!

I see comments on the suscibers title name . Yes Africa is a continent, but this is their ideal as what they see it to be. Some things you do not need to take at face value literally. To whomever made the account that is what mattered to them. Like your handle does to you. Just saying.
