Owned a PX3 Wildtrak from new - great car. Got the Next-Gen Wildtrak- riddled with problems to the point where Ford gave me my money back. I loved it looks wise and the power was decent in the V6 but then purchased a brand new 200 series VX and have never looked back. Worlds apart in quality and power.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Shame you had that experience ☹️ Very different cars to compare. From a power perspective (stock) there’s not much between the two (both claim a 0-100 around 8sec). Slightly more power/torque in the 200, but considerably heavier than the v6 Ranger. On the other hand, can get some big figures out of the 200 with some work/tune and that lovely sounding v8 so don’t blame you at all 😁 Glad it’s all worked out for you and clearly happy with your new rig 👍 My brother in law has one and it’s a beast.

Why does Ford supply auto boxes that go bang around 130 k mark 5r55 box in mine,just look at the US market,weak box since 90's if it was built properly like a Toyota. The tester's all rave about the 6r80 and 10r80 trans these go bang too.long term ownership, never again..I will not buy another Ford as the warranty is crap, and any gripe I had was met with they all do that so why do you think it's our problem. Sounds like a great setup. I’m really happy too. Considering a trans cooler and finding the transmission gets a little warmer than I’d like towing and when on the beach. I monitor via a Scanguage. Locking out gears 8/9/10 whilst towing helps a lot but I find offroad the trans gets up to 100 at times. Transcooler will get those temps right down. Other than that like you I’m really enjoying it 😊

Next gen Raptor owner here. Very impressed so far. I've also had a slight glitch with apple car play. It connects as normal, but sometimes I'll get no audio. Spotify shows the track playing but no sound. A simple reconnect fixes it, nothing major but a tad annoying. Apparently Ford are aware of it and are working on an update. Also occasionally hearing a random "ding ding" from the dash, but no messages popping up for it. Other than that, it's an absolute beast.

Just got a 2024.5 Everest and the ding ding occasionally with no alarm message is the same as on my 2021 Focus. If you’re using adaptive cruise with lane keeping switched on, the safety camera top of the windscreen sometimes can’t see the road edges either because the white line is missing or bad weather. When you hear the ding ding (no alarm message) look down at the lane keeping symbol and you’ll see it greyed out with a line through it. After a little while it sees road edges again and goes white. I just turned off lane keeping in the adaptive cruise settings. Not heard it since.

just a tip when calculating fuel economy, fill it up to the brim, plan the route on google, 200km is a good run, then fill it up to the brim again. Use the km travelled from google and the fuel added at the bowser at the end of the trip to calculate litres per 100km: fuel used/distance travelled x 100. My old man uses more fuel in his stock v6 ranger around town than you do fully modified (10-12ltrs per 100km) gets down to 9 on the highway. I think your figures might be off, probably due to the increase in tire diameter
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Good tips. My avg fuel figures are correct - based on fuel used at bowser, km driven, then adding a further 5% onto km to account for my bigger tyres (my Speedo will always be 5% out running 33s). Cheers for watching

Like you the apple car play/android auto is a bit clunky.......doesn't connect about 30% of the time. I have an S21, so if I have to, I will plug the phone in so the android auto works, and it works perfectly. No error messages of any kind. When connecting a trailer, it seems to make the car know it's there if you make sure the active trailer is "active". First time I connected my van I kept getting "trailer disconnected message" This has now stopped. Overall, the performance is better than my Y62 towing, and comparable when not towing. The V6 has so much go, it's a miracle I haven't been booked yet...... CarPlay works fine on my March 23 built Ranger with iPhone8. The only issue I’ve had in the two months since I’ve owned it and from day one is the tyre pressure monitoring system puts up a fault message every five to ten miles. This will be seen to some fine day in future. All cars with auto-stop/start engage it by default the same as lane keeping assist. They do it to gain their current five star insurance rating. Ford have also disabled keyless entry in Europe currently due to scanning and theft risk. They promise to provide new keys with a sleep when idle feature by the end of the year when it will be possible to re-instate the keyless entry and exit functions through the software. Lots of users are not keen on the noisy new receiver type tow hitch and would prefer the old fixed hitch. Personally I like, on balance, the advantage of being able to remove the drawbar when not needed and for extra departure angle, and to replace it quickly with a tow rope drawbar or even a rear winch and cradle. For those that insist on a noiseless fixed hitch, I highly recommend an arc welder to weld the male and female parts together in eternal bliss.

Interesting info. Thank you for sharing 👌 Glad your CarPlay is working. I’m now getting the same message with the tyre pressure monitoring (just comes and goes). Hoping next time I take it into ford can get the front camera message and that sorted at the same time.

1st time Ford owner. Purchased new 2023 Everest Sport V6, waited 9 months and it arrived mid Aug. Drove it home from dealer and added about 8km and had engine light turn on with error code saying NoX sensor unable to send message to ECU.. took it back next day, then instructed to take it to the service centre for scanning. Had to leave it there and took a complementary car home. After day 3, the entire NoX module was replaced with both NoX sensors also changed. Pretty frustrating at the time, tried to reject the car but was told it was a minor fault and was repaired with factory parts covered under warranty.. its been 3 weeks now and no issues and kinda over the initial ugly taste left in my mouth. Could have happened to any car really. Car drives well and not much to hate except the v6 ive found to be a little thirsty.

The electronic shifter is the worst part for me. Every time you need to do a 3point turn, you get stuck in the middle of the road cause it won’t go quickly into reverse. It electronically goes into park and you need to wait a few seconds before you can move the shifter again. And yes I get those tech glitches also.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Interesting feedback. Thanks for sharing. Can’t say I’ve noticed the shifter being slower into reverse compared to my last car (Pajero Sport) but there is certainly more reliance on tech in these compared to models before - like the electronic hand brake and everything else!
@hedydd2 Жыл бұрын
I’ve done my share of shuttling with and without a trailer behind and have never had this issue. If you open a door or shut the engine off it will go into Park but otherwise it is just like using the six speed on the old models, of which I still have a 2.2 automatic. My 2.0 bi-turbo was built in March 23 so may have improved firmware.

We have found the TCM has needed to be replaced twice, and needed a new gearbox once, all in one year and 90k kms. It was covered under warranty at least. You should possibly try to get the shifter replaced - a few seconds is too long.

Android Auto also has the same drop out issue. One day it's fine but the next day it won't work even when it's already automatically connected to the phone through blootooth. Fully agree with the auto engine off and the lane assist. I find the auto engine off kicks in at the worst possible times. Usually happens when I'm edging the front of the car towards the garage door to fit it in the driveway. The lane assist is brutal even on the lowest setting compared to the lane assist in my wife's tesla. Definitely needs some work and especially bad when towing. All up though, the rest of the car is awesome and the minor issues don't take away from that and will likely be sorted out through software updates later. As you said, we are pretty much the bug guinea pigs on this first series.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Interesting same on Android. I’ve heard a software update is on the cards - from a recent article on Car Expert. Hopefully this irons out the connectivity issues.
@echoromeo5879 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. We have essentially the same vehicle, but without the cool mod's. We haul a 3.4 ton caravan around without effort. The camera glitch turned out to be a mounting that came loose. The phone connectivity glitch is stupid. It needs to have perfect internet coverage to chaperone the connection. Losing the default to autostop and lane keeping would definitely be a step ahead. Two things about engine oil. It takes forever - like 10 - 15 minutes - for the oil to drain down to the sump so dipping the oil without this long wait can give a false "low" reading, The % oil life remaining give a very generous life span between changes 17,500 on the first change not 15,000 in spite of several thousand of heavy towing.

I also have a Next Gen XLT (Nov 22) Agree the auto off is very annoying as can be the lane keeping. I’ve also found when in cruise control the vehicle computer has a mind of its own. You can be travelling along at 80kph and all of a sudden it thinks it’s in a 110kph zone and and takes off to that speed. Ford have informed me if needs a map update. Time will tell after the next service. I had a similar problem last summer to you in regards to the gear box. I drove to Perth via Jarradale and when I turned onto south west highway towards Byford it was like I was in neutral when it got to about 60kph. It would rev but no getup and go. It sounds like you have the speed limit as on maps and observed signs, linked to the adaptive cruise control. I think they come from the factory like that but there is an easy to find and use switch in the centre control panel that decouples the road speed limit from the cruise control. If you find that the truck slows down to a lower posted speed limit automatically, you have this annoying feature switched on. It does help if you have speeding penalty points against your driving license though 😉

The Auto start stop that comes on automatically is a pain, but that happens in most new cars for emissions, so no avoiding it. I guess the fuel use comes with the territory of a performance car. I’m sure you’re all over this but - keeping on top of your tyre pressures can really help. I run 40 PSI on my 33s around town. You could also try running an idrive throttle controller and run it in eco mode when around time - then dial back up when you’re having fun offroad

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes that’s a shame if you feel you’re not getting the service you deserve. I had the pre-collision thing for probably 8 months since new and then a software update came through and hasn’t come back since. I’d push your dealership on this. Re your towing issues, are you using the standard brake controller or an aftermarket? I had similar issues with the addition of a Redarc towpro elite unit at first and ended up being an issue with the install. After some adjustments from my auto sparkie it was all good. I know exactly what you’re talking about with the engine auto stop/start. This is not specific to Ford however it’s the feature. Every car that has the feature when it’s on as soon as you stop it will turn the car off. If you just raise your foot off the brake pedal a tiny amount for a second the engine will restart. I have a ‘23 Raptor and I haven’t experienced any of the other issue’s you have described. The only thing I have found is with the IPhone ( and I’m not sure if this is your issue as I’m not sure what phone you have) I have the iPhone 14pro and because it comes out a bit at the back around the camera the phone without a case doesn’t sit flat on the wireless charger and so it can move around a little at times. That’s the only thing I’ve found. But with my case it isn’t so much of an issue now. I love the Raptor and am so glad I bought it. I was going to get a Wildtrak in the end I decided to get the Raptor and I’m using it as my daily. The only thing I added was the power roller shutter for the tray. I think seeing as it comes standard on the Wildtrak it should the Raptor but it doesn’t lol.

Got the Wildtrak V6. I had the tailshaft rattle, emergency braking all on its own, issues with android auto, issues with Collison assist malfunctions, issues with the assisted brake hold at lights, had the turbo oil feed and oil return lines both leaking lots of oil onto the hot side of the turbo, issues with the left mirror getting stuck in the closed position and it scratching opening and closing. It doesn't like trying to put the handbrake on and put it in park to fast as the handbrake won't go on. The Ford app to be able to start the car before I get in doesn't work most of the time. There is a bit of a clunk every so often when going from park into forward or reverse. The outside temperature sensor is very useless when in direct sunlight compared to cars 17 years older. It will read much hotter then it actually is outside. The cabin gets super hot when parked the direct sunlight compared to every other car I've had. Ford have not been great to deal with unfortunately for me. However I like the car for lots of things like the power, steering, brakes, cameras, engine noise. A must if going any kind of off-road is underbody protection. Ford did not design things to be protected under there and we narrowly missed a stick taking out the wiring to the transmission. Oh and it would be nice if the eco mode actually worked with the transmission to change gears earlier. I've been able to drive heaps of loan cars from Ford due to the car going to the workshop a heap and the 4 cylinder labours that engine more then the V6. The transmission on where it changes the V6 holds it in higher revs then the 4 cylinder, like wtf.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear! That’s rough. I’d certainly keep on the case with Ford to make sure everything is resolved in a timely manner. Perhaps try a different dealer? Agree on under body protection. I have added the Ironman ones. Looks great and very strong. Re smoother / earlier gear changes, perhaps worth trying an idrive / evc throttle controller. In regards to auto stop start, and this is from a 21 Bi turbo owner but would be interesting to see if it works on next Gen. I removed the trailer plug from the towbar and fitted the LED light extension, then fixed that to the towbar with the original plug connected and tucked up above. This has totally disabled the stop start, even tho it says its active it never activates. Also means all trailer lights now work properly all the time, had issues with a couple of trailers where i would connect and check lights, then later notice none were working anymore as the vehicle had shut down the output.

The carplay issue is due to it being wireless. Plug it in and those problems disappear 👍 As for the loss of power, thats the tranny overheating. Unfortunately these rangers need a bigger cooler upgrade, they dont cope on the beach in soft sand either. Hope this helps.

10L/100 around town?? My company car is a 2WD XL double cab with a canopy and the povo single turbo 2L and I can barely keep it under 12L/100 and that's with hwy and city driving! It's still quite new (under 2000 Ks) so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt for a while... but it has definitely been using a LOT more fuel than the D-Max it replaced. I hear you re the lane assist... very annoying. As for the Apple Car Play, I use both that and Android Auto (work/personal phones) and the issue you mentioned seems to only happen when using Apple Car Play. You wonder why half the safety systems stop working when the vehicle is setup by the manufacturer to an exacting factory standard and people see fit to modify because they know better. Changing the ride height is enough for the vehicle to say poo poo to the adaptive cruise control system on any car fitted with it. An awning on the side may help.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
It’s certainly a good point. Overall it appears Ford have put some thought into the fact people will modify these, eg; can configure the fuel tank range to read the correct range to empty if you add the ARB 140L tank - and making it easy for wiring etc. I’ve found cruise control isn’t as smooth with 33s on. Awning would actually be handy - my issue is roof clearance for parking. Anything I add would need to be temporary so haven’t found the right solution yet. Cheers for feedback and watching.

I have the same vehicle and agree about the Apple Carplay, lane keep assist and auto engine off features. I’d shut the last two off permanently if I could. Other criticism is the plastic rear bumper. It isn’t up to use on gravel roads. Rocks hitting the inside of the bumper have caused the paint to craze on mine after doing perhaps 1300km of gravel on the Great Central Road. Otherwise very happy with ours after about 16000km. I also have a biturbo and find it considerably more economical on fuel. Something else that really bugs me is that the park lights come on if you switch the ignition to accessories. Try running a fridge from the socket in the tub when you are stopped and you’ll have park lights on to help drain your battery.

Warranty with Ford is a nightmare. I have a 2019 Ford Mustang 10sp. 1. Takes nearly 2 seconds to change from 1st to 2nd in S mode using paddles. Was told not to use the paddles as they were not designed for that and nothing wrong. 2. Software glitches. On picking up after warranty service, told they had upgraded two software programs to fix warranty claim and that I need to pay for these as Ford doesn’t cover the cost of software upgrades. I said I didn’t request an upgrade, I made a warranty claim. They breached Australian Consumer Law. 3. Had cracks in tyre walls of all four tyres. Common defect of Michelin tyres. Told for six months not covered by warranty despite it expressly stating in the warranty that defect to tyres are covered for 5 years. They then asked me to pay the difference in usage, 50% tyre worn, must pay 50% of new cost. Refused, warranty doesn’t state this and what other parts covered under warranty do they ask to pay part costs? Six months later, got four more tyres. Breach Australian Consumer Law as they failed to act in a timely manner. 4. The accelerator surge on initially application. More noticeable in higher rev range. Demonstrated to Ford sports mode, they said it’s just sports mode making it feel quicker. I understand how these modes work. What happens is I give the accelerator 3% and application it revs to 1600 then instantly drops to 1400 revs without variation to accelerator. Same happens when instantly hoping off accelerator. To 0% accelerator, revs at 4000 will drop to 3700, then rise to 3900, then evenly drop. The rise occurs without any use of accelerator. Again, Ford just ignore these issues. No fault codes, no fault. Car still drivable, but not smoothly. Please does anyone have any ideas of what is going on? Fought Ford for 18 months on this. Love the car, hate Ford.

My V6 is at ford at the moment. It has suffered the V6 issue of the cracked oil return line from the turbo (hopefully that is all it is) Why would a manufacturer do away with an oil light and/or oil pressure gauge. The XLT only has an oil temperature gauge. Lot of help that is
@Perth4WDandCamping7 ай бұрын
That’s a shame to hear. Heard of a couple of people on the forums but seems to be a relatively rare issue. I invested in a ScanGauge and it’s a good way to keep a tabs on your engine vitals and read any error codes

My Apple CarPlay will not connect at home, I think its to do with the car being connected to the home wifi. As soon as I’m out of range the CarPlay connects perfectly, very frustrating

I believe that there is up grade coming for the infotainment system soon . They are doing the Wildtrack X & the Platinum first then the others in the lineup after that.

Someone has probably already mentioned it, but you can turn off lane assist in the settings permanently.
@Perth4WDandCamping Жыл бұрын
No way to turn off in settings that’s I’m aware of. Believe possible with ForScan tool but not many people have access to this - and need to know what you’re doing. Only options in setting are lane keeping ‘aid’ and ‘aid and alert’. Still need to press button to turn off

Great review... I'm about to order a new car... either a ranger sport or everything sport can't decide.... love the look of a Ranger

Yes, the electronics of the Ranger are a 'problem', the electrics problem have not been yours alone. I've read and watched several reviews where the electronics have been a problem for others with their next gen Rangers.

Hopefully just Gen 1 teething issues and all resolved soon. There will be ongoing software updates as things are refined. Overall love the car.

Just wondering with your tail shaft issues? What was the process with ford to fix/replace?
@Perth4WDandCamping6 ай бұрын
Was pretty straight forward. I flagged the issue with my local ford dealership. They needed to test it with standard tyres to make sure it wasn’t anything to do with aftermarket rims. They could see there was a vibration and the car was booked in to get it replaced. All in all it was relatively painless.

Thanks for your review. May I ask when you are towing your van do you leave the vehicle in Drive or do you use manual mode? If you use manual mode what is the highest gear you go to? I would suggest maybe 6 or 7th?
@Perth4WDandCamping10 ай бұрын
I used tow haul mode in drive and lock out gears 8-10. This then only operates gears 1-7 and I find the transmission runs a lot cooler.
@colinthompson646310 ай бұрын
@@Perth4WDandCamping Thanks for that and the quick reply. May I ask how you lock out gears 8-10 when in tow haul mode? Do you do that by pushing the “-“ button on the transmission shifter.
@Perth4WDandCamping10 ай бұрын
@colinthompson6463 Hi. I made a video showing you how to lock out (below), but essentially yes press the - button on the shifter to activation selective gears. It will display on the dash the gears in use so as you press - it will lock out more of the gears. Just hit the + button to add them back in, or every time you turn off the car it resets Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naqYpomojMmdY6c
