I had all kinds of hopes for this video. Unfortunately I have a Classic, so most of these functions won't work for me. I already have my skimmer shut down if return pump flow drops below a certain level or shuts off. If there is a work around for other things I'd love to know them!!

Wish I knew about this three months ago as my skimmer overflowed while I was on vacation, flooding the floor, carpet, flowed into room below...bottom line was thousands of dollars of repair...and tear down of 175 gal aquarium and reset... hopefully this will prevent that from happening to someone else! Great info. Well done!

Awesome, perfect video, just what I needed to start programming my ApexEL that I've had now for 4 months and getting it working for me to how I like to operate my aquarium. Bringing my Apex to a whole new level now with this information. Thanks so much for this video.

The last two skimmers I’ve had haven’t had enough room for a float switch in the lid. Adding a collecting reservoir made it easier to add a float switch and easier to empty - double win!

Good video! I never considered using the Ph probe to control skimmer. Small suggestion: have your level sensors default as normally closed and alert when open; this helps account for a possible failed level switch or bad wire connection.

You mentioned being worried of pH spike on a problem with a CO2 scrubbed skimmer. Can you explain? I am not seeing a significant situation of over pH theoretically.
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right, high pH is much less of an issue in a reef tank vs low pH. In reality, we don't really know the cutoff on how high of a pH is too high. The idea in this case is more just for the sake of stability.

Is there a place that I can go to on the Neptune app to know which preset tasks I've already done and want to edit them? If I already did the pH probe alarm with one range, but want to edit that range, where can I go to do that?
@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
There isn't, but in the case of the pH probe alarm, just hit the little gear next to the pH readout in Fusion and then click Advanced. You can change the min and max pH levels for that alarm there.

What about Apex ready skimmers ? Are they any good ?
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
When you say Apex Ready skimmers, I assume you're talking about a skimmer that has a pump with a 0-10v port? If so, that's a great way to integrate your skimmer into the Apex Universe. It's nice to be able to make adjustments on the fly through Apex Fusion when needed.

Can I use hardened salt for a fish only tank? Could I just break it back down into grains and use it? There is still lots of grainy salt left but there is a few chunks.
@tomthebomb31894 жыл бұрын
why would u ever want to do that btw fish onlys still need mg and more importantly a sw lvl of alk and pH
@chriscasan4 жыл бұрын
@@tomthebomb3189 well it's safe to use according to most forums. I will keep the alkilinity and pH in check. If it's too low, I could just use some crushed coral or sea shells. I found a article that says I shouldn't worry about magnesium in a fish only tank but I'll take your advice to mind.
@tomthebomb31894 жыл бұрын
Chris's Aquariums I meant alkalinity and plus hardened salt could have impurities and heard to crunch up and mix
@chriscasan4 жыл бұрын
@@tomthebomb3189 I've already crunched up most of it but I have some other salt that I know is good.
@tomthebomb31894 жыл бұрын
Chris's Aquariums literally just use marine salt cuz there is a super high chance there are impurities and contaminants and long term is bad and will also create gunk in mixing bins and FOWLR tanks have some creatures that still need those elements but keep the alk in check

Hi Randy, I used to run the program where the over flow pump would shut off once the feed mode came on which in turn would shut off the skimmer. This skimmer would be deferred for five minutes after the return pump power would come on. However there is a flaw in this system. Since I was running this everyday, the relays on the energy bar have worn out. So the program still runs as normal. But the skimmer outlet will not come on once the five minute deferral is done. So I alway get 0 watts notifications. Which means I have to go to the energy bar and knock the cover to start up the relay so the outlet powers up. This is not the auto maintenance I was seeking. So this is no longer an option. Any tips on how to fix this other than stripping the relays out of the energy bar and replacing them? And I can’t move the skimmer to another outlet as this would cause another relay failure. Thanks Dan.
@terencefugazzi51644 жыл бұрын
Please contact Neptune Systems support www.neptunesystems.com/support/contact-support/. The number of cycles on the relay as you describe would never be enough to "wear out" the relays under normal circumstances. Support will take care of you.

Apex is the brand of controller that BRS sells so they are naturally going to focus on that one but most of these tips can be used with other controllers; the process and programming may be slightly different but the general approach is the same.
