Another nice and windy day where I could let them all go and monitor them! I was able to actually check them every hour this time, unlike the last attempt at this. Our wind was from the opposite direction this time, though, which put the i1500 and i500 in dirty air, but they still performed okay. Wind speeds today were mostly in the high 20's with gusts getting upward of 50 milers per hour (22m/s). It really taxed my inverters' ability to keep up for most of the day!

@@ToysforWatts I already run a large Solar field. (21 Mwh yearly) One of my inverters seems to be ready to take wind power also. Accoording to the manufacturer. It makes amazing graphs. I'm looking for a turbine to add to this inverter. Its hard to find a turbine which is actually any good though. You channel already helped me a lot!

Well guess what ; I went and got two more batteries ; I have 18 now. But 12 of them are on a different set of #1 cables than the other 6, and I think one of those has a bad solder joint...so I've been adding all those batteries on that leg, and none of them are connected well to the inverter, I guess...the six on the other set of welding leads has higher voltage...so they're the only ones being charged all the way...so I have to find that spot with the volt meter...I have 900 amp hours of batteries now...I've been buying all those batteries to make it work better and the cable has a high resistance, so it's been that way for a long time because I haven't messed with those cables...so it's really going to affect it when I fix the connection...I thought the voltmeter was off on the inverter but it's okay ..the voltage between groups was actually different, but I couldn't find the problem until I got enough batteries on it that it couldn't charge them all , it showed up. It rained here but it turned into sleet and then it snowed 4 inches on top of that...so the snow stuck to my solar panels, even though I tried to brush the snow off...normally I can get power from snow glare. I think when I get all the batteries connected to each other, I should have power for a week without sun...I have 9 pairs, hooked up 24 volts, then all those pairs in parallel. So I am carefully removing the main cables tonight, and checking for a bad connection. Looks like your stuff is working pretty well.

If I' m seeing right you rectify the AC output of the generators and put the current into a battery bank. A wind turbine can only be charging the battery when de voltage rise above the battery voltage. Moreover, if the rectified voltage is above the battery voltage, there is no headroom to reach a maximum power point. It is just a fixed situation. Not sure whether you can get more power (or how much) from each turbine. Also, when looing for maximum powerpoint, you should consider that the rotation speed will decrease if you load the turbine. Have you ever been considering something about this (finding maximum power point and test your turbines again)?

A turbine can only push power above battery voltage, but if load voltage is too low there's not enough resistance on the circuit and the turbine just stops. Similarly, if load voltage is too high then there's too much resistance across the circuit and the turbine never loads up. It's all a matter of balance, that's why turbines are rated at specific voltages. You can usually go a little less or a little more but getting too far away from the target voltage means sacrificing power productions. I have tried moving the turbines around to different voltages and sometimes they work, but they never work as well.

@@ToysforWatts thank you for your reply. What i' m trying to say is that you could maybe draw more power if, the battery voltage is dynamic, depending on the wind speed. It is actually not, but just hypotheticly. In other words I think that the efficiency is better when you load the turbine depending on the wind speed. What are your thoughts about that?

Interesting , Heli 2.0 made so much more power than others. May be it is so because it runs on 48V. You have to set up IstaBreeze 1500 48V version to find out is it really making more power.
@ToysforWatts
@ToysforWatts 2 жыл бұрын
The Heli 2.0 is a considerably larger turbine than the i1500. It frequently peaks well above the 2500w mark. In general it makes roughly twice the power as the i1500 and today it was in front of the i1500...the i1500 usually does better but it only got wind that'd already rolled through the Heli.

Im verry fan of you and see all controllers you already use in all videos i have a combination wirh old relay that do not discharge batteries i think it may be a solution i just put a video with the combination (Dumload solution) That Heli is impresive i have a i1500 but your heli a lot of power awesome.

@ToysforWatts

I don't unfortunately. I have a handheld anemometer but it's only good for recording wind speed at ground level right at the time I'm measuring...which isn't particularly useful. The wind where I am right now can be drastically different from the wind "just over there", much less the wind wherever it was ten minutes ago. I would love to have a way to measure wind speed and output in real time but the few ways in which I've found to do it have been prohibitively expensive.

Love your videos. I'm thinking about getting ista i2000 48V with 5 blades. I wonder if it would be close to heli 2.0 in electricity generation?
@ToysforWatts
@ToysforWatts 2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest going with the 3-blade setup first...the benefit of five blades is going to be a better slow wind start up but it will sacrifice RPM up top and the i1500/2000 need a LOT of RPM to kick out their rated power (ie 5 blade will start easier but have a lower peak power output). If the turbine has a hard time starting then look at swapping to five, but if you have enough wind to get it going with three that's going to produce the most power. It's not going to be able to keep up with the Heli but it'll be about 2/3~3/4 of the power pretty easily. The Heli has a much fatter power band and is designed to work at a much lower RPM. Even though the Heli 2.0 and i2000 are both rated as 2kw turbines, neither one will spend a lot of time making their peak powers and the Heli starts out making more at lower RPM.

hi, i have the heli as well with the default 5 blade hub. so far do you believe the new set of blades you install from the heli 4.0 are more wind sensitive and works better? mine doesn't turn with regular winds that much.
@ToysforWatts
@ToysforWatts 2 жыл бұрын
For me the larger blades were absolutely transformative! But, also for me, a lot of it was the height I'm stuck at (I can't go higher than 40ft, roughly 12m, in my area so my Heli's hub is roughly 32ft off the ground). If I could get closer to 20m it would have performed considerably better for me. That said, though, at any height I believe the upgraded blades are an excellent addition to the turbine and if you're having trouble with low wind starting they will definitely help. Those five blades, while I love their performance on my i1500, don't generate enough torque to get the Heli going unless it's blowing close to rated wind speed.

Yes you'll need to reach out to iSta Breeze directly about it. The setup comes with a new hub and it swaps right over. They are not Heli 4.0, blades, though...they're made similarly, but are not quite the same. You have to email iSta Breeze to order them.
